There are three core styles of copy editing. We call them levels of editing. Each level delivers a
different depth of editing service.
Level 1 Proofreading
Plan your schedule and budget accordingly if this is the level of service
you need.
For example, any copy editor with an English degree can make your
writing grammatically correct. But, will they ensure facts are
adequately presented to back your analysis? Will they ensure your
sources are cited? Will they guarantee your paper follows the
dissertation structure: abstract, acknowledgments, table of contents,
introduction, discussion, analysis, findings and conclusion, references,
and appendices? Will they understand the intent of each section of the
paper and make sure your content supports the intent? Will they
ensure your document is a pleasure to read and something you can be
proud to present?
Grammar Check
Grammar check can be done by software or humans. Choose wisely.
There are two types of grammar check services - human and software-
based. When accuracy is required, choose humans to check your
writing instead of a algorithmic grammar check. Even the best
algorithms are only able to fix a small subset of grammatical errors.
Grammar is a contextual science with nuances that cannot be
automated.
Here is a simple experiment that shows where software-based
grammar checkers fail.
The revised sentence establishes a more descriptive visual that fits the
context a fictional horror story. The core value of a human editor is in
their ability to rephrase your writing where needed to add more clarity.
Software grammar checkers simply can't do this.
We all have at least one friend who is a genius with words. English
majors worth their words understand the semantics of English but may
not know how to copy edit for a specific audience. Copy editing goes
beyond basic semantics and proofreading. It requires a synthesis of skill
and art. Experience is the best teacher of copy editing. Choose your
editor wisely if your writing matters.
Our service employs experienced editors who write for your reader's
amygdale. Visit our home page and scroll to the last paragraph to find
out what that is and why it is important.

If one of the heirs contested the will because of the placement of the
comma in the first example, the probate judge would need to know the
rules of comma usage for restrictive and nonrestrictive clauses:
Comma usage before the who restricts focus to the first offspring
Note: the probate judge might be especially grateful for the comma
because the definition of a good life is also toxically ambiguous.
Albert Joseph, in his guide, promotes the use of commas during these
seven situations:

A student writing for medical school needs an editor who can frame
writing to emote precision of craft and dedication for well-being to the
admissions counselor sifting through thousands of medical school
applicants. The editor needs to be sensitive to how this particular paper
will grab attention in the sea of other applicants.
These are examples of the types of edits we engage. You can see the

more professional, concise, and readable.
Grammar is just the beginning. We edit for structure, redundancy,
irrelevant or ineffective words, and the overall readability of your
writing.
We use the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word so you can see

Misplaced, Dangling, and Squinting Modifiers
Mistakes with modifiers are tough to detect. Most armchair writers
dont know what modifiers are. Misplaced modifiers are one of the
most common grammatical errors and cause of humor. Your writing will
become clearer when you learn how to spot and correct misplaced,
dangling and squinting modifiers.
Misplaced Modifiers
Modifiers can be a word, phrase or clause that describes another word
or group of words in your sentence. As a general rule, modifiers should
be placed as close as possible to the words that theyre describing.
Otherwise, your sentence risks becoming a laughing stock or
ambiguous.
Example: I set out a breakfast of yogurt and cereal for my family on the
kitchen table.
Correct usage: I set out a breakfast of yogurt and cereal on the kitchen
table for my family.
Dangling Modifiers
Correct usage:
Seeing a sparrow perched up high on a tree branch, I yelled at the cat
to leave him alone.
Example: Driving down the street, my toddler started crying for her
teddy bear that she left at grandmothers home.
Im shocked to learn that your toddler can already reach the accelerator
pedel.
Squinting Modifiers
Incorrect usage: Showering with very hot water quickly causes dry skin
to develop.
Correct usage: Dry skin quickly develops when people shower with very
hot water.
This could mean that multiple divorces are expensive or that splitting
the mortgage is advantageous.
Correct usage: Your financial situation often changes when you get
married.
Avoid confusion by putting your modifiers where they belong. Identify
each modifier in your sentence and make sure the words it modifies are
present and nearby.
Thank you..
