1. Introduction

This method statement provides information concerning the plant, equipment, manpower and
method of construction to ensure compliance with contract requirements, drawings, technical
specification and quality control.

2. Purpose / Scope of Work

The purpose of this method statement is to describe the measures and ways of
proper installation of interlock or paving block within our project. The work shall be carried
out as per the project specification and approved drawing.

3. Work Sequences
Both specialist and general workers of Perkasa Jauhari Sdn Bhd experienced in this type of work
will execute the works. The interlocking block installation shall be carried out progressively after
the infrastructure works were complete to ensure that the construction works can be complete as
per schedule.

4. Method Statement
4.1 Preparation
Before interlock work starts, make sure that sub-grade is compacted when the area is
above natural ground.
The sub-base shall be compacted with vibratory roller, size of roller shall be suitable for
the area where it could maneuver and can move back and forth.
Once compacted and met the specification requirement for compaction and approved by
Engineer, base course shall then be placed above compacted sub-base but make
sure thickness of the bases are as per approved drawing.
In the areas where there are kerb stone, the blinding shall be constructed first to serve as
the base accordingly to the drawing.
The importance of pre-installation of kerb stone is to prevent the migration or dis-
alignment of interlock or block, and it will serve as reference line or level.
After compaction of base-course, the black sand shall be laid on it of 50 mm thick. There
are cases that the bedding is mixed with cement to adhere cohesiveness but it will be as
per specification requirements.

4.2 Installation of Interlock or Paving block

The minimum thickness of interlock shall be 60mm with various colors. Approved
interlock or paving block shall be used in the installation.
The dimension, thickness and design shall be as per approve shop drawing.
Land surveying shall be made to mark the required levels, alignments, setting out lines
for interlock as per approved drawing.
Once the whole area is completed, fine sand can then laid on the installed interlock or
paving block. Sand shall be spread evenly on the whole area.
Plate compactor shall be used to compact the installed interlock or paving blocks.
Once compacted, cleaning shall be followed to remove all excess sand and damaged
pieces.
Inspection request will then be submitted to the Engineer for approval.

4.3 Cleaning and Protection


Any unit pavers that are loose, chipped, broken, stained or otherwise damaged or that
does not match adjoining units as intended shall be remove and replace.
The finished work shall be protected from damage until substantial completion.
At the end of each day of work, construction waste and debris resulting from this work
shall be removed from the site.

7. Safety & Environment


It is our policy to perform all our works with due regard to safety, practice safe working methods
and create a risk free, healthy working environment.

The following key areas construction shall be adhered by all personal, working on-site. There are
not all inclusive set of rules, but guidance of the level of care and attention on safety matters that
every site personals shall observed and follow.

i- Personal Protective Equipment


The personal protective equipment which will be provided to the workers on site
includes of following:
- Safety Helmets
- Safety Vest
ii- Housekeeping is an essential part of the construct safety. This should be part of
our daily routine. Housekeeping would include the following items :
- Store all materials in safe and orderly manner.
- Avoid littering around the jobsite.
- Do not leave any equipment and material scattered around site area.
iii- Night Work
For night work, the area of work shall be adequately lit the facilitate production
works and movements on site. Warning lights, directive signs, reflective aids and
barriers shall be placed at suitable location to forewarn all potential hazards.

In summation, in order to achieve safe, free risk and healthy working environment, including
loss prevention, every practicable step must be taken by each and everyone engaged in this
project site.
