of STEEL
Superior and
Uniform Quality
Steel is roll-formed into precise, uniform shapes with exacting
tolerances for consistent material quality. There is no need for
sorting (culling) or special handling to inspect for crown.
Steel studs are straight. They dont warp, twist, bow, split or have knots, which means
straight walls, square corners and doors and windows that open and close properly.
BUILD with

years, per a study conducted in England.
Forensic studies recently conducted on
Oahu residences built over 40 years ago
showed steel wall studs with no visible
signs of corrosion.
Zinc coating protects steel by providing
a physical barrier as well as cathodic
protection to the underlying steel. When
the base is exposed, such as at a cut
or scratch, the steel is cathodically
protected by the sacrificial corrosion of
the zinc coating adjacent to the steel.

the BENEFITS
of STEEL
...for benefits
What about Lightning?
Steel buildings are lightning resistant because steel framing provides
multiple conductive paths directly to the ground.
The steel frame reduces the likelihood of explosions, secondary fires
or personal injury.
Steel skyscrapers have provided occupants with safe offices and
residences for years.
Earthquakes or Hurricanes?
Steel framing can be engineered to meet the highest seismic and wind loads
prescribed by building codes.
Steel has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any framing material; a lighter
structure with stronger connections results in lower damage from seismic force.
Steels strength and resiliency help it to survive earthquakes.
Smaller probability of damage in high winds; stronger connections
(screwed vs. nailed) can withstand greater winds.
For generations we have relied on the strength and durability of steel in our
commercial buildings, hospitals and schools.

one stud flange is temporarily unsheathed. Note that for studs 6" wide and less in depth, bridging can be
accomplished with the TradeReady Spazzer 9200 or

Long Leg (Deflection) Track (UT-Series) with Spazzer 9200 Bar (SPZD)
Eliminates high material cost of custom-made head tracks Spazzer 9200
Dietrich TradeReady Spazzer 9200 is a pre-notched, 20-gauge, galvanized steel spacer bar Long Leg
engineered to handle deflection at the head track of interior nonload-bearing, nonstructural stud Track
walls. The pre-notched slots and gripping power of the 50-inch bar holds studs into a rigid,
accurately laid out gridwork that has excellent resistance to stud rotation and displacement.
The Spazzer 9200 spacer bar saves time and materials by eliminating the cost of custom head
tracks and the time required to fasten and remove screws or layout stud spacing at the deck.
Hanging drywall is also faster and easier because the Spazzer 9200 spacer bar eliminates the
bow that often occurs in tall interior studs.

This traditional assembly accommodates the deflection of floor beams or floor decks
at the head of wall. The single long leg track assembly requires 1-1/2" cold-rolled
channel (CHN) and 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" 16-gauge EasyClip Clip Angles (U-Series) installed
continuously throughout the uppermost punch-outs to align the studs vertically
within the plane of the wall. Deflection track details must be designed for the specific
conditions of a building to accommodate the required deflection and end reactions of
the studs. Deflection tracks cannot be used in axial load-bearing stud conditions or
above continuous window spandrels.

Table Notes
1) Screws shall be #10-16 Buildex or equivalent, with an ultimate shear capacity per screw of 1400#.
2) Table to be used by qualified engineers only.
3) To determine the capacity of any given connection, compare the jamb and head values, and use the minimum. For example, if a 16-gauge, 50 ksi jamb is used with a Patent Pending
3.625" HDS 18-gauge, 33 ksi head, the design value for F1 is the minimum value of 1680# for the jamb and 682# for the head. Therefore, the design value is 682#.
4) For F1 and F2 occurring at the same time, use the squared interaction equation: (f1/F1)^2+(f2/F2)^2<1.0.

Dietrich C-Joist components provide an economical, lightweight alternative to open web trusses, bar
joists, engineered lumber, cast-in-place or hollow core floor assemblies. Depending on loads and spans,
C-Joists are typically spaced at 12", 16", 19.2" or 24" on-center spacing. Structural track (TSB), usually
in the same gauge as the joist, is used as rim or band enclosures. Joist to girder attachments are
normally supported with joist hangers, EasyClip E-Series or S-Series support clips. Web stiffeners
may be required at supports and other point loads. Solid blocking and strap bridging is required to
properly brace the floor assembly.

Dietrich TradeReady rim is another major component of the TradeReady steel floor TradeReady Rim
system. The rim is an integral part of the system and drastically reduces framing time and effort.
Rims have preformed attachment tabs at 12", 16", 19.2" or 24" O.C. spacing to eliminate
layout time. The tabs are also prepunched to ensure fast, accurate and proper fastener
placement. Embossed stiffening ribs on each side of the preformed tabs provide additional
reinforcement, resulting in a significant reduction of web stiffeners (squash blocks) and
support clips in a majority of applications. Once rims are installed, simply tilt up the floor joist, abut to
the tab and screw attach.

Dietrich TradeReady structural blocking is pre-cut to fit securely between the underside of floor joists to prevent joist
rotation. The structural blocking is an economical alternative to cross bracing, x-bracing or strapping. A continuous row of
blocking should be installed every 8' O.C. maximum and staggered for easy attachment.
CAUTION: In order to prevent joist rolling, the TDSB blocking must be tied into the structure
or otherwise braced against lateral movement.

Goldline* paper-faced tape-on beads combine galvanized metal corner and edge protection
with high-grade paper tape to provide cost-effective, problem-free outside drywall corner
finishing. Paper-faced beads are available in a number of different widths to suit most
wallboard applications. Wider flange beads are used to cover imperfect corners, while
shorter flanges are used to achieve maximum efficiency.
Paper-faced beads virtually eliminate corner cracks, edge chips and nail pops. These beads
are applied using joint compound that embeds the paper bead to the wallboard paper. No
mechanical fasteners like nails, screws, staples or crimps are used. Although paper-faced beads
do cost more compared to traditional metal and vinyl, they provide reduced labor and materials
by reducing the amount of joint compound needed and also eliminate one pass of finishing.

This Dietrich #66 N short flange casing bead has the same
uses as the #66 expanded flange casing beads associated
with select one-coat systems but it has weep holes. The weep
holes are added for moisture dissipation. Perforated 1-1/4"
nailing flange aids attachment and plaster keying. NOTE: It is
important to remember that casing beads with weep
holes punched in the ground flange are for tested and
approved one-coat systems. No other applications
are implied or suggested.

Double-V Expansion
Control Joint
Double-V Expansion Control Joints relieve the stresses of basic expansion and
contraction associated with inherent shrinkage during stucco curing and general
thermal changes. Expanded flanges allow for proper keying and easy installation.
Corrosion protection maintained and ensured with galvanized steel and roll-
formed zinc. Zinc is recommended for exterior applications. Ground heights
include 3/8" for thin coat plaster and 1/2", 3/4" and 7/8" for conventional plaster.
CAUTION: Joints and corners are a potential point of water intrusion.
Dietrich strongly recommends building paper be placed behind all joints
and corners. Also, a bead of high-quality caulking should be applied under
the joints prior to the attachment of the materials.

Dietrich F.H.A.7. foundation weep screed protects the stop edges of stucco and exterior insulated finish system materials at the sill
plate. Its commonly referred to as F.H.A. Screed because it meets all pertinent F.H.A. requirements as part of a drainage system for
exterior stucco applications. The 3-1/2" nailing flange serves as a straight-edge stop at the sill plate line and flashing when water-
resistant paper or paper-backed lath is installed over the flange.
The bottom of the vertical nailing flange must terminate at or below the bottom of the sill plate or the bottom of the shear panel.
This will ensure a tight connection between the bottom flange of the weep screed and the foundation. Bonding holes are punched
in the 7/8" or 1-3/8" V-grounds to enable keying. The weeping occurs along the surface of the angular bead. Also available without
bonding holes and in 28 gauge (FHAE) for non-code work.
The International Building Code (IBC)* requires that all foundation screeds have a 3-1/2" nailing flange, weep holes and a
minimum thickness of 26-gauge steel.
Sill Screed
The SI36 is a similar profile to the FHA7 Foundation Screed except the bottom flange has been cut back to allow trowel access for
cleaning excess material and trimming of the vapor barrier. The SI36 meets all other applicable codes with respect to 3-1/2" nailing
flange, 26-gauge galvanized steel and 7/8" ground.

then foam insulation, cement board or metal lath can be installed over it. In any case, the protruding ridge of the metal must extend
beyond the plane of overlaid materials to serve as a ground for the stucco or E.I.F.S. application. Installed in conjunction with 1" rigid
insulation associated with one-coat plaster stucco systems, the 1-3/8" ground provides proper depth for plaster keying. Galvanized
for corrosion protection, it also is available with weep holes ( JWLB).
1-3/8" J-Weep with a 2" nailing flange should not be used as a foundation weep screed for three-coat stucco applications.
This casing or plaster stop bead should only be used on approved one-coat systems.
The International Building Code (IBC)* requires that all weep screeds have a 3-1/2" nailing flange, weep holes and a minimum
thickness of 26-gauge steel. This product does not conform to code-required work if used as a foundation weep.
