COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to be a career awareness course with skills
learned for diverse medical jobs. Units of instruction include career search,
health and disease, anatomy, physiology, and pathology, human growth and
development, communication, health care responsibilities, and job seeking skills.
The Manor provides the site for clinical experience. During clinical rotation,
students apply skills learned in the classroom and laboratory at local health care
facilities. Students will also be exposed to emergency medical services through
the first responder course and basic emergency medical technician course
through the Morrisville Fire and Rescue Department. Students wishing to obtain
state licensure as a nurse assistant (L.N.A.) or Personal Care Attendant (P.C.A.)
may do so through this program. Students may be eligible to receive college
credit got Human Biology and Medical Terminology. Health Careers students
participate in a national student leadership organization, SkillsUSA, which has
annual state and national conventions.

RESPECT
Learn and abide by the member high school, Green Mountain Technology
and Career Center, and program policies and procedures
Participate in all scheduled classes
Complete all required school and state forms
Work, following all occupational and instructional standards
Come to work prepared, rested, and fit for duty
Complete all work assignments as required by program instructor
Maintain standards of quality as required by the program instructor
Participate in all activities as assigned by the program instructor and the
Technical Director

ACCOMMODATIONS IN THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT:


Students should identify the need for educational accommodations (classroom or
laboratory) the first week of class. If, during the school year, a students status changes
and the need for accommodations in the educational environment is required, the
instructor should be notified immediately.

ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION:
You are expected to be on time, regularly attend, and enthusiastically participate in class to the
best of your ability. Any absence without prior notification or arrangements with the instructor
will be considered unexcused. Your class participation grade will be affected for each
unexcused absence.

ACADEMIC HONESTY:
Evidence of plagiarism, forgery, copying from another students work, using crib sheets on a
test, tampering with the instructors grades or scores, re-using work from other classes, patterns
of absences on test dates and/or assignment dates will be taken very seriously.

Written Tests: at the end of each unit there will be a written test. Tests
are based on material covered in class lectures as well as assigned readings and
homework assignments. Tests are not timed, students may take as long as
needed to finish their tests.
Homework assignments: homework assignments correlating with lecture
topics will be distributed in class with a date due. Up to 100% credit will be given
for homework handed in on the date due. Up to 50% credit will be given for
homework handed in one day late. You will not receive any credit for homework
handed in later than one day past the date due.
