System requirements
For ECOM to work properly, your PC system must
meet the following minimum requirements:
1 GHz processor
10 GB hard disk
256 MB RAM
CD-ROM reader
1. Disconnect your VCI and your USB key from the computer before starting the
installation.
4. The installation program now asks for the password that was supplied with your
USB key. Enter the password and click OK (see Fig. 1).
Fig. 1
5. If ECOM is already installed on your computer, the installation program will ask if
you wish to uninstall the old version. Answer Yes (see Fig. 2). The uninstall
process may take a few minutes to complete.
Fig. 2
6. After your old version of ECOM has been uninstalled, the installation program
starts to unzip new files onto your computer (see Fig. 3).
Fig. 3
7. When the files have been unzipped, the welcome screen appears. Carefully read
the text, then click the Next > button. You can abort the installation in any window
by clicking Cancel (see Fig. 4).
Fig. 4
8. Here you must carefully read the ECOM licence agreement and then accept it by
selecting the I accept the license agreement option (see Fig. 5). Then click
Next > to continue installing the software.
Fig. 5
9. In this window, enter your name and the name of the organisation you belong to.
Here you can also choose whether you want to install ECOM so that everyone who
uses your PC can access it, or if only you should have access. Select the option
you want and click Next > (see Fig. 6).
Fig. 6
10. Here you choose where on your hard disk you want to install ECOM. The default
installation folder is C:\ECOM\. To change the folder, click Browse. When you
have made your selection, click Next > (see Fig. 7).
Fig. 7
11. The next window is an information window and your last chance to change any of
the choices you made earlier in the installation process. If you want to change
anything in the earlier steps, click the < Back button; otherwise click Next > (see
Fig. 8).
Fig. 8
12. Installation of ECOM starts. This process may take a few minutes, depending on
your systems performance (see Fig. 9).
Fig. 9
13. Sometimes a warning window may appear on the screen indicating that the
installation program cannot find a VCI. Click Cancel and the installation will
continue (see Fig. 10).
Fig. 10
14. The entire ECOM installation should now have been completed and if it has been
successful the window below appears. Click Finish to complete the installation
(see Fig. 11). Note: You may be prompted to restart the computer to complete the
installation.
Fig. 11
15. To start the ECOM program go to the START / PROGRAMS / ECOM menu and
then click ECOM or use the shortcut on the desktop (see Fig. 12).

According to the licence agreement, the VCI must be returned to Scania CV AB when the
licence agreement expires. If the VCI is lost or damaged, this must be reported
immediately to the person responsible at Scania according to the contact list on page 13.
1. Connect the USB connector from the VCI to a free USB port on your computer (see
Fig. 13).
Fig. 13
2. When the USB contact is connected, Windows 2000 senses this automatically and
the Found New Hardware opens (see Fig. 14). In Windows XP the guide for New
Hardware opens and you just click Next > (see Fig. 15). Windows then
automatically installs the drivers for the VCI.

Note: Remember that you are personally responsible for ensuring that your USB key
does not fall into the wrong hands, and that it is not copied or otherwise misused. Scania
CV AB may claim damages from the registered user of a USB key in the event of
negligence as described above. For further information, see the licence agreement.
According to the licence agreement, the USB key must be returned to Scania CV AB
when the licence agreement expires. If the USB key is lost or damaged, this must be
reported immediately to the person responsible at Scania according to the contact list on
page 13.
1. Connect the USB key to a free USB port on your PC (see Fig. 16).
Fig. 16
2. Windows detects the USB key and installs it automatically. In Windows 2000 the
Found New Hardware may open (see Fig. 17).

Problem guide
Here are some things you can try if you cannot start ECOM. If nothing works, please
contact your support agent at Scania.
Pull out the USB connection of the VCI and unplug the USB key from your PC. Wait
10-15 seconds, then plug in the VCI, and then the USB key. This causes Windows
to reload the drivers for these devices.
