SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear colleagues:
The Center for Coastal Ecosystems Research (CIEC) will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2016
and is pleased to announce that the 1 st Conference on Coastal Ecosystems Science and
Management, EcoCIEC 2016, will take place at Hotel Meli Jardines del Rey, in October 24 - 28,
2016. The meeting will gather scientists and other professionals involved in marine and coastal
sciences, services and technology; as well as environmental sociologists, archeologists, economists,
businessmen, policy-makers, lawyers and others.
The Organizing Committee of EcoCIEC 2016 is particularly pleased in extending you a warm and
cordial invitation to attend this important event, and proposes an attractive program that includes panel
and poster presentations to share the state of the art in the field of coastal sciences and management.
We invite you to participate in this exciting scientific exchange, and at the same time, to enjoy the
beauties of our landscape and seascape, our culture and our people. For further information on

Main topics
The goal of EcoCIEC 2016 is to provide a forum of debate and information of stakeholders and the
public how to reach sustainable development in our coastal ecosystems. In order to accomplish that
goal we call for presentations and posters on the following main topics and issues:
Ecology of coastal ecosystems (such as forests; bushes; mangrove; seagrass; coral reef; etc.)
and their biota (such as plants; algae; birds; reptiles; insects; corals; octocorals; other marine
invertebrates; fish; etc.).
Environment of coastal ecosystems (such as nutrients cycles on coastal lagoons and shallow
waters; coastal dynamics; meteorology; etc.).
Management of coastal ecosystems (such as fisheries; protected areas; tourism; integrated
management; economy, environment and natural resources; climate change adaptation;
pollution; habitats rehabilitation; archeology; etc.).
The Scientific Program of the Congress will include panel and poster presentations. The Organizing
Committee will decide on the modality for presentation of each selected paper.

Principales temas
La meta de EcoCIEC 2016 es brindar un foro de debate e informacin para actores y el pblico de
cmo lograr un desarrollo sostenible en nuestros ecosistemas costeros. Para alcanzar dicha meta,
se solicitan presentaciones y carteles de los siguientes temas:
Ecologa de ecosistemas costeros (tales como bosques; matorrales; manglares; pastos marinos;
arrecifes coralinos; etc.) y su biota (tales como plantas; algas; aves; reptiles; insectos; corales;
octocorales; otros invertebrados marinos; peces; etc.).
Ambiente de ecosistemas costeros (tales como ciclos de nutrientes en lagunas costeras y aguas
someras; dinmica costera; meteorologa; etc.).
Manejo de ecosistemas costeros (tales como pesqueras; turismo; reas protegidas; manejo
integrado; economa, medio ambiente y recursos naturales; adaptacin al cambio climtico;
contaminacin; rehabilitacin de hbitats; arqueologa; etc.).
Inscripcin al evento: 400 Pesos Cubanos Convertibles (CUC) para extranjeros (chequear tasa de
cambio http://www.bc.gob.cu/espanol/tipo_cambio.asp) y 400 CUP para cubanos.
