Summary

Lyons Pool was selected as the site for the North Shore Staten Island Recreation Center Replacement
Already an operating recreational facility
Very good public transportation access
City-owned property with existing utilities minimizes acquisition and infrastructure costs
Directly adjacent to former Cromwell Recreation Center
Site has already absorbed some of Cromwells programming (cardio and weight rooms)

Recreation program was developed based on previous programming at former Cromwell Center and community feedback
Community expressed a desire for the new recreation center to replace multi-purpose / basketball courts lost with demolition of former Cromwell Center
Space program survey determined the need for new program spaces such Children & Teens Recreation, Computer Resource Room and Teaching Kitchen

Conceptual Design was prepared for the Lyons Pool site accommodating the communitys programmatic needs
95,000 SF, three level building proposed above existing parking lot.
4 multi-sport / competition-size basketball courts are provided on Level 3
Spaces for Children & Teens Recreation are provided on Level 2.
Demolish defunct diving pool and replace with new Childrens Playground and Spray Pad on pool deck.
Conceptual design was developed with minimal impact to existing landmarked building.
