Steels for shipbuilding

Steels for shipbuilding can be used for the entire range of shipbuilding applications e.g. for the hull and interior of ships.

Last update: 2014-4-28

Properties
These steel grades are generally supplied under the supervision of classification societies, in accordance with the appropriate
regulations in each case. Plates can be supplied as rolled, shotblasted or shotblasted and painted (see data sheet H00).

Advantages
Depending on the part of the ship where the steel is to be used, toughness values at different temperatures and/or through-thickness
mechanical properties can be required. Weldability is often a key requirement.
Applications
Steels for shipbuilding can be used for the entire range of shipbuilding applications e.g. for the hull and interior of ships.

Agreements
The maximum thickness approved in shipbuilding specifications can be communicated on request by your sales agent.

Available options
Options available (after prior agreement):

For A/B/D/E grades, the carbon + 1/6 of the manganese content should not exceed 0.40%. The steel should contain aluminium,
niobium, vanadium or other suitable grain-refining elements, either singly or in any combination. When these elements are used
singly, the steel should contain the specified minimum content of the grain-refining element (0.02% Nb 0.05%, 0.05% V
0.10%, Ti 0.02%). When used in combination, the specified minimum content of each element is not applicable.

Nb + Ti + V 0.12%

For *H grade, Ceq requirements apply only for TM rolling conditions and thicknesses < 50 mm.
