Item Description

Supply & filling imported earth of approved quality, in plot, trenches, plinth, sides of foundations etc. in layers not exceeding
20 cm in depth each deposited layer by ramming and watering. Item includes compaction using Vibratory Roller of 8 to 10
ton capacity for earth work in under optimum moisture conditions to give at least 95% of the maximum dry density (Proctor
Density).
Note:
a. Initial & final level survey shall be undertaken jointly by the Contractor &/or representatives with IOC Site Engineer. Initial
levels to be taken after completion of clearing grass, jungle & dosing as applicable at site on a 5 m x 5 m grid.
b. Payment shall be made by computing the compacted volume of fill computed from the initial & final levels using
Simpson's Rule. Net quantity of compacted earth shall be paid & no compensation whatsoever on account of subsidence of
soil etc shall be permitted.
c. The scope of works include provision of permanent & temporary bench marks (RCC pedestal of size 300 mm x 300 mm
approx with necessary base plate) as per the instructions of the Site Incharge.
d. For area which are waterlogged & swampy, arrangements like floats, 400 mm x 400 mm base plate welded to the Level
staff to be used for taking levels.
e.Approval from IOC shall be obtained for the imported earth & quarry used for mass filling & necessary test reports from a
Govt. Engg Colleges/Universities have to be submitted for the parameters specified by IOC prior to undertaking filling in the
site.
f. Item rate is inclusive of applicable Royalty for the imported earth & necessary receipts/ NOC from concerned Authorities to
be submitted by the Contractor.

FREQUENCY CRITERIA

1 Land Development Works:- The size of the coarse material in the mixture of earth shall ordinarily not exceed 75
mm when being placed in the embankment & 50 mm when placed in the subgrade as regards the placement of
fill material and its compaction to the requirements of these specifications. The maximum particle size shall not
be more than tow third of the compacted layer thickness. Cutting excavated base surface for embankment
should be properly watered, rolled and levelled. Compaction register is to be maintained by the contractor at
site. Efficient technical personnel are to be maintained at the site by the contractor for ensuring the
requirements.
