Personal Engineering Activities

C.E.2.7 I was assigned to the responsibility of morning shift as a shift engineer in engineering
department at savoy resort. Upon commencement of my position there were twenty three
employees who worked under my supervision. I had technical meetings with my chief engineer
every mornings to do the working plan of the day. Then, I had the morning briefing with
supervisors and technicians. During these briefings I gave instructions and tasks for that day to
the technicians according to the work schedule that has been decided on our technical meetings.

C.E.2.8 During my day, I took a round in the resort to check that every technician in his
working place and give them technical instructions. I took a round to check boiler room and read
the daily check list readings (Temperature, Pressure, PH). I took a round to check swimming
pools readings (PH, CL, Cyanuric acid). I took a round to check chillers status.
C.E.2.9 During my daily tour, I also explained to the technicians about the activities they must
make in order to follow the safety rules and to ensure that safety standards such as caution tapes
and safety tools were applied in the working area.

C.E.2.10 After all of these tours, I used to check my business emails and finish all my paper
work in my office such as requesting materials from stores, writing purchase requests and
communicate with both of financial and purchasing departments. Guest is always right according
to the hotel standards, so I should follow up any guest order or complain from engineering point
of view.

C.E.2.11 At the end of the day, I had a meeting with my team to follow up the work which was
done and the pending work. Then, I took a tour with my chief engineer in the resort to check the
landscape lighting and any defects to add it in the pending list.

C.E.2.12 Through this station, I was involved in preventive maintenance program for any
mechanical equipment such as pumps, air handling units, compressors, boilers, chillers, and
cooling towers. I used to prepare the preventive maintenance papers weekly, then give the new
ones to supervisors and collect the old ones.

C.E.2.13 I attended a lot of internal trainings through training department such as Train the
Trainers, Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP), Building Management System
(BMS), and Water Treatment. Besides, I constantly enhance my English language skills in order
to be acquainted with the recent publications and get information about new engineering
achievements, which is related to my career path.

C.E.2.14 After six months, I was transferred into the second station which was called Royal
Savoy Resort & Villas to follow up the renovation of the new building. The new building
consisted of twenty two suites, new lobby and new main restaurant. I was responsible to receive
all new HVAC system (Air handling units for lobby and restaurant, Fan coils for suites) after
installation from supplier as a technical wise. I was also responsible to receive hot water and
cold water piping after installation from supplier.
C.E.2.15 I tested HVAC system through testing all pipes of chilled water (Return line, Supply
line), all fan coils (Solenoids, Fans, Filters, drainage), all air handling units (Supply motor,
Return motor, Belts, Coils, Filters, Ducting). I tested the hot water system through testing all
pipes under pressure, boiler efficiency, heat exchangers. I had a problem in the hot water system
which was the lower efficiency of hot water at the last floor of building and I solved it by adding
two circulating pumps at the return of hot water .

C.E.2.16 After the renovation of Royal Savoy Resort & Villas, I was involved as a shift
engineer at Royal Savoy Resort & Villas and to follow up all maintenance tasks which was
related to this area as per a special request from the general manager of Royal Savoy Resort &
Villas . The General Manager of Royal Savoy Resort & Villas was my direct manager in
this period . I used to attend the morning briefing with GM and all departments daily to follow
up the minutes and tasks.

C.E.2.17 The last station for me at Savoy Group was at Soho Square. I worked as an acting
assistant chief engineer and I was in-charge of Soho Square engineering team during any
vacation of assistant chief engineer. During this period I made a full design for a hydraulic gate
in the entrance of Soho Square. I used my previous experience and my academic skills in
mathematics and fluid mechanics to choose the type of hydraulic pump with the suitable head
pressure and mass flow rate, also I calculated the mass flow rate according to this equation

. This hydraulic system consisted of oil tank, oil pump,

flow divider, pistons, cylinders, pipes, and manifold.

C.E.2.18 I was assigned to the responsibility of chief engineer tasks, however I was still in shift
engineer position. My biggest issues were the preventive maintenance for dancing fountain
through pumps (bearings, mechanical seals), piping, jet nozzles adjustment, electric motors,
spots, following up the software system with the manufacturer, in addition to preventive
maintenance for Ice Rink chiller.

C.E.2.19 I was also responsible of writing the monthly profit and loss ( P& L) plan to discuss it
with finance department, Furniture Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) plan to discuss it with
director of engineering, writing and following up purchase orders, dealing with suppliers.
Summary

C.E.2.20 As a result of this job I achieved a high level of knowledge and skills in preventive
maintenance. I worked hard to learn about the facilities maintenance and workers management
and at the same time understanding complex projects and its software and hardware. I exceeded
my own expectations and proved to myself that I was more than capable of learning, adapting,
and excelling at something new. I always kept a professional image working with other
engineers, workers, suppliers, and managers.

C.E.2.21 My director of engineering was extremely saddened by my departure as he held me

and my work ethic in very high regard. He had many ideas about my future in the company and
had mentioned to me We can see you as a Chief Engineer in a few years. The workers who
worked under me were sorrowful as well because I had always taken care of them and protected
their rights against other workers and company. I was awarded with certificate of appreciation
from the owner while attending my farewell party .
