Who We Are
A member of the Roche Group, Genentech has been at the forefront of the biotechnology
industry for more than 40 years, using human genetic information to develop novel
medicines for serious and life-threatening diseases. Genentech has multiple therapies on the
market for cancer & other serious illnesses. Please take this opportunity to learn about
Genentech where we believe that our employees are our most important asset & are
dedicated to remaining a great place to work.

The Position

The Department of Biomedical Imaging is dedicated to developing, implementing and

validating imaging and physiological techniques which further our understanding of the
pathophysiology of disease in the living system. To achieve this the department takes a
whole-organism approach to studying the integrated molecular and physiological features of
a disease and its treatment. Scientists within the Department collaborate across all areas of
gRED to expedite drug discovery and development through greater understanding of biology
in vivo, carrying out all aspects of non-clinical imaging studies. Because the imaging
technologies developed within the department have counterparts in clinical medicine,
scientists within the department provide leadership on Development teams to support human
imaging studies.

Project 1:

The Biomedical Imaging Group at Genentech has an open 6 month COOP position.
Research efforts within the BMI group focus on developing and applying biomedical imaging
to quantify structural and physiological responses to therapy. The Biomedical Imaging Group
is a dedicated, state-of-the-art research facility that includes MRI (7 and 9.4T), Micro-CT (in-
vivo and ex-vivo), Micro-PET/CT, as well as ultrasound and optical imaging techniques.

This position will focus on image analysis of preclinical imaging data. Responsibilities include
development and implementation of biomedical image analysis algorithms to obtain
structural information from micro-CT and/or MRI volumetric data. The position will require
algorithm design, software development and algorithm validation. Requirements: The
candidate should be in an undergraduate or graduate engineering or computer science
program. Knowledge of a high-level software programming language (C++, Python, JAVA,
MatLab, etc) is required. Some software development experience via course work or student
projects is expected. Previous experience (course work/projects) with medical imaging and
image analysis techniques is desired.

Project 2:

We are seeking a motivated intern to develop and evaluate analysis routines for analyzing
pre-clinical retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging data. The ideal candidate
would be comfortable writing MATLAB scripts for loading image files, applying image
segmentation routines, and evaluating and presenting the results. The successful applicant
will gain experience working in a biotech imaging group analyzing volumetric image datasets.

Target Start Date: Summer 2017
