SPECIFICATION

Contract Drawings and Specifications


Rural Steel Bridging Ltd (R.S.B.L) shall obtain and ensure the Supervisor and Contractors
drawings and specifications of sufficient detail to define the extent and location of the work, the
function that it is to serve, the principal materials, construction requirements and the relevant
standards.

Safety Management
R.S.B.L shall maintain a formal system of safety assessment and monitoring in accordance with
the relevant principals set out. This safety management shall be incorporated into the Safety
Procedures and the Quality Management System.

Safety Procedures
R.S.B.L shall prepare and display in prominent position on site, safety procedures and
emergency procedures.

Quality Assurance
R.S.B.L shall provide assurance of the quality of all goods, materials and services to be
provided. The following are deemed to meet this requirement:
a quality assurance system complying with S.O.N, or
a quality control system consistent with these specifications and checklists.

Supervision
R.S.B.L shall ensure that the work is supervised by an appropriately experienced building
supervisor.

SPECIFICATION - SCAFFOLDING
This specification covers ....... the erection of scaffolding, where the working height exceeds 3.0
m.

Approvals
The Client shall obtain all relevant approvals and provide to R.S.B.L the appropriate certificates.

Standards
All components and installation shall comply with the requirements of the relevant work safety
regulatory authority and the relevant Standards.

Commencement
Work shall commence as soon as practical after, but not before,
(a) The Builder has issued:
a written order
the relevant contract drawings, specifications and schedule of work
written approval of any details provided by the Contractor
(b) The building has been constructed to a height where scaffolding is required.

Installation of Scaffolds
All scaffolds shall be installed in accordance with R.S.B.L work operational standards and the
requirement of the relevant occupational health and safety authority. In particular:

Scaffolds shall be provided where a person or object can fall a distance of 3.0 m or more.

Scaffolds incorporating metal members shall not be erected within 4.0 m of any electrical
power lines, unless they are de-energized.

Mobile scaffolds shall not be located within 1.0 metre of a slab edge, penetration or step-
down unless there is a positive means of preventing the scaffold crossing that point, such
as a fence or up-turn.

SPECIFICATION BUILDERS WORKS


This specification covers ....... the erection of blockworks, concreting works, fabrications and the
likes.

Approvals
The Client shall obtain all relevant approvals and provide to R.S.B.L the appropriate certificates.

Standards
All components and installation shall comply with the requirements of the relevant work safety
regulatory authority and the relevant Standards.

Commencement
Work shall commence as soon as practical after, but not before,

(b) The building has been constructed to a height where scaffolding is required.

Laying of Blocks
All blockworks shall be installed in accordance with R.S.B.L work operational standards and the
requirement of the relevant building authority. In particular:

Blockworks shall be laid to attain precise horizontal and vertical.

Such works shall be done on stabilized ground [concrete foundation].

Mortar mix as prescribed shall be used and pointed surfaces brushed appropriately.

Steel Fabrication
Steel works shall be installed in accordance with R.S.B.L work operational standards and the
requirement of the relevant building authority. In particular:

Steel works that would not create nuisance will be fabricated on site for installations.

Steel works that are nuisance bound will be fabricated off-site and brought to site on
completion for installation.

All steel joinery will be as approved by the client or his representative and must meet the
basic required standard..

Concrete works
All concrete works shall be carried out in accordance with R.S.B.L work operational standards
and the requirement of the relevant building authority. In particular:

Mixing of concrete shall be carried out mechanically.

Associated works with concreting [formwork and reinforcement] shall be in place and
certified ok; before placing of concrete takes place with adequate vibration.

Concrete shall be adequately cured to meet up with the required strength.
