PRIMARY SOURCES

"Black Panther Party Platform and Program." DPLA, The Bancroft Library, dp.la/
primary-source-sets/sources/388/. This is a primary source and I think that
we will use this source to show how African Americans weren't being treated
right and how in this writing piece they said they were going to take
action to change how they were being treated.

I think we will use this source for showing the people who were
participating in the black panther movement. This evidence shows people who were
fighting for their rights and people who wanted to see the world be equal. It shows how so
many people were fighting and building up.

Seale, Bobby. Seize the Time; the Story of the Black Panther Party and Huey P. Newton:
Random House, q970. Print.
Huey organized what he called a Junior Party group, teaching them some Black History
and some revolutionary principles, teaching them how to use them and how to apply them.
The Black Panthers were helping to build the black community by training the younger
generations, especially the boys. They were making sure that by the time the original
founders are done, the younger generations will be able to rise up and take over.

Hilliard, Davis, and Lewis Cole. This Side of Glory: The Autobiography of David Hilliard
and the Story of the Black Panther Party

Hilliard mentions how the Black Panthers organized the Free Breakfast for Children
program to help black children receive a meal each day before school. They helped over
20,000 children. The Black Panthers were helping to uplift the black community by making
sure their people were taken care of and had food in their stomachs. They were making
sure the younger generations wouldnt starve and had a helping hand.
The Black Panther Research Project. Angela D. LeBlanc-Ernest,
web.standford.edu/group/blackpanthers/histroy.shtml.
We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our Black and oppressed
communities. This is one item from the list of things that The Black Panthers stood for.
They immediately say that one of their goals is to be freed from white oppression by
making sure the establishments and institutions in the Black Community are controlled by
Blacks.

Coleman, Kate. The Partys Over. New Times, 10 July 1978, pp 23-47 Coleman Truth,
colemantruth.net/kates.pdf.
The Black Panthers protested against white owned establishments and facilities. Protested
against white men who killed Blacks. By protesting, they were saying that the white man
should be punished for killing Blacks because murder is a crime. They were trying to fight
the system by coming together and standing up for what they believe in.

SECONDARY SOURCES

Baggins, Brian. "The Black Panther Party." Marxists, www.marxists.org/history/

usa/workers/black-panthers/. Baggins basically summarizes the foundation
and history of the Panthers. This could be used on our tri fold because it
gives us history and background information on how the BPP started in the
first place.

Baquet,Dean, editor: New York Times. Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr., 8 Sept.2016,

lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/09/08
The party increasingly emphasized community-based activism, voters registration drives
and more than 60 survival programs. (paragraph 7). Through these programs, The Black
Panthers helped African Americans change the stereotype created about them by white
people. These programs help African Americans become aware of their history in America,
as well as the situations happening around them so they could change it.

The Encyclopedia Britannica. The Black Panther Party Founded. African American
Registry, www.aaregistry.org/historic_events/view/black-panther-party-founded
The party was founded in 1966 in Oakland, California and the goal was to protect from
police brutality and later on it grew bigger and more members joined and the cause grew.
This supports the thesis statement because it explains everything and BPP and it also
explains their cause and what they did to get there.
