 COMPANY HISTORY

1881 Franco Tosi Company is founded as a fully privately owned company

and manufacturer of steam engines and boilers for application in the
textile industry and soon after in power generation.

1904 Franco Tosi Company manufactures its first steam turbine (6000 Kw)
utilizing its own technology. Production of steam turbines expands a lot
in volume and size catering the growing industrial and power
generation application markets.

1949 Franco Tosi enters a technology agreement with Westinghouse Electric

of the USA and develops over the years the middle size and large
utility steam turbines (150 MW frames, 320 MW frames, 660 MW
frames) that still are the backbone of, among others, the Italian electric
system. The presence of Franco Tosi as a highly reputed steam turbine
manufacture grows worldwide across the board of utility as well as
industrial applications customers.

1990 Franco Tosi, still a fully privately Company, has a worldwide aggregate
installed power of about 75.000 MW, out of which 27.000 Mw of STS
in more than 40 different Countries.
Number of steam turbines manufactured by Franco Tosi is in excess
of 1.000 units.

1991 Franco Tosi ownership is taken over by Finmeccanica, an holding

Company controlled by Italian State via the Ministry of Treasure and
merged with Ansaldo Componenti.
The new Company takes the name of Ansaldo Energia.
The Legnano facilities, former Franco Tosi shops and personnel, keep
operating as a division of Ansaldo.
During the subject period the Legnano facilities have the unique
opportunity to continue cultivating its own technology and, in parallel,
get exposed to other technologies available in the group (GE and
ABB) and familiarize with them.

2000 In late summer 2000, and in the frame of the privatising of Ansaldo
Energia, the Legnano facilities including all the shops and former
Franco Tosi personnel, products (with the only exception of boilers)
and experience are spun-off from Ansaldo Energia to Casti Group, an
Italian private group.
The new Company so formed takes the name of Franco Tosi
Meccanica.
Franco Tosi Meccanica renewes technology agreements with
Westinghouse, today Siemens Westinghouse, and signs a new
license agreement for Steam Turbines of American Technology.
This allows Franco Tosi Meccanica full title to its own past experience
and access to developments implemented by Siemens Westinghouse
since the expiring of previous license agreement.

 COMPANY HISTORY
Today Franco Tosi Meccanica designs and manufactures, in its original and
renewed shops and with the same experienced people, steam turbines
based on its own and Siemens Westinghouse very proven technology.

Franco Tosi Meccanica power generation steam turbine experience is

based on the imprinting coming from the long and intimate use and
knowledge of Westinghouse Electric technology (license agreement
between 1949 and 1989), the exposure and access to Ansaldo
Componenti/GE and ABB technologies (1990-2000) and the renewed,
currently in force license agreement with Siemens Westinghouse.

In addition to the above FTM signs a recent license agreement with

Siemens AG for Steam Turbines of German Technology. This gives to
FTM access to a large type of technologies; this allows FTM to give to
her Clients better solutions for their particularly demands.

Today the historical name of Franco Tosi, very well appreciated all
around the world, and backed by vast experience, dedicated people,
up to date design tools, modern manufacturing facilities and financial
strength is here with its proactive, focused and entrepreneurial
organisation for the satisfaction of old and new customers.
