The course will take place with a minimum of 8 students

Objectives: By the end of the course, students should have achieved level B2 of the European
Language Passport, as established by the European Union. This course aims to improve Listening,
Reading skills, Speaking (Interaction and Production) and Writing, in the context of the Medical
Profession.

Presentation
English in Medicine is a course for doctors, medical students and other medical professionals who
need to communicate with patients and medical colleagues. Each of the units focuses on one area of
doctor-patient communication, from history-taking and examination to diagnosis and treatment. The
course develops all four skills through a wide variety of activities. The course takes into account the
recent developments in medicine and the impact of new information technology.

Materials
Course Book:- English in Medicine: A Course in Communication Skills (Cambridge Professional English)
by Eric H. Glendinning and Beverly Holmstrm (Feb 7, 2005). This can be bought Online from various sources and
should be bought by the student before the beginning of the course. There is also a CD available but
this is optional.
The course will be supplemented with other materials provided by the teacher.

PROGRAMME
English in Medicine is course of 33 hours. (11 x 3 hour lessons). This includes the final exam. It is
designed for English language students of intermediate level and above.
