Remembering Creating
Description of how to implement in the class:
Before setting up the video, ask students:
Who is Martin Luther King, Jr?
What did he do? Where did he live?
To set up the video go to the BrainPop website & search Martin Luther King, Jr.
Students may either sit at their desk & watch or come onto the rug area.
As an introduction to the historical figures in Georgia history unit we will watch a BrainPop video
about Martin Luther King, Jr. If desired, pause the video at certain points to ask questions to assess
the classs understanding moving forward. After we have watched the video, we will spend about
10 minutes in intentional discussion about the things addressed in the video. Then we will make a
trip to the library to check out some books related to the topics for the students to use as another
research source.
I want to extend the lesson by giving students the option to create their own speech & model it
after Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech. The assignment will be graded

students who are not proficient in writing yet, there will be an option to video tape their speech &
present it in the form of a podcast in order to practice their public speaking & technology skills.
