Congratulations on your recent download of The Canjo!

We think youre gonna get a lot out of this little

instrument
What is a Canjo? We werent really sure how to answer that, so we did some research (AKA Google), and
here is what we found:
FROM HENRY HOOVERS DEDICATED CANJO WEBSITE
A Canjo is a single string musical instrument. It is held like a guitar but may also be played on a table or lap.
The neck is made of furniture grade kiln dried hard wood hand rubbed with boiled linen seed oil. On the neck
fretted diatonically (like a dulcimer including a 6-1/2 fret) are twelve notes or finger positions.
We couldn't imagine having more fun with a single string! The instrument includes an arpeggiator that will
infuse an awesome rhythm into your music. So what are you waiting for, grab this thing while it's hot!

One String + One Can

1000+ unique samples, mapped out over 5 octaves
Muted/Fingered/Picked Articulations
Custom arpeggiator with 50 new factory presets
Super-duper custom ambiences
Full Kontakt 4.2.4+ required
To save on the instrument footprint, we chose to format our samples in NIs proprietary lossless .nkw
format. Our custom arpeggiator is sooo much fun to play with. It can help you inject energy into your
music in seconds! A full preset system gives you the ability to create and save your own arp settings,
and 50 factory presets to inspire you. Our custom-programmed randomization, humanization system
will keep your patterns from sounding like computerized robotic poop.

Installation Notes

Interface & Controls

a Convolution Reverb Panel where we have created a bunch of custom IRs for your
reverberating pleasure. Please use responsibly
b We are Embertone! Hi!
c PITCH WHEEL Each drum has its own natural pitch center, which you can control here. Especially
useful if you want to tune multiple Jug Drums together, or with other instruments.
d Articulation Keyswitches Assignable keyswitches that will switch between
Muted/Fingered/Picked style of playing.
e Randomize RR will, you guessed it, randomize the 4/8 round robins so that they dont occur in a
set sequence.
f Velocity Control When you press this button, the keyswitches disappear and now you can freely
move between articulations depending on your velocity. (Velocity ranges can be adjusted as well!)
g Attack Noise This is a small noise that was captured at the beginning of each sample. Its the
sound one hears BEFORE the string is struck. Its an extra layer of realism, though it has a
tendency to dirty up the sound a little bit.
h Question Mark Button if youre confused, hopefully this will shed some light.
i ARP The blue button turns the custom arpeggiator on/off, and the edit button will bring up the
arpeggiator window.

Arpeggiator
f Note Order A standard arpeggiator feature that defines how notes will sequence through the active
note.
g Humanization area is one of our favorite spots in this window. Velocity humanization will randomize
the aggregate velocity value by +/- the amount displayed. The Tightness knob takes that perfect
computerized rhythm and fudges it up a little bit. *Note that high tightness values will make the arp
pattern sound as if its played by your drunk cousin Ned.
h Main Arpeggiator Zone The meat and potatoes of the module, controls standard function: Steps,
Rate, # of Strikes, and Swing. The best way to learn what these features do is to change settings
and observe the results!
i Sync Type allows you to define where on the beat you want your arpeggiation to be triggered: Free
Running means that the note will be triggered and applied to the pattern the moment you strike a new
note. Sync to next beat will quantize your start input to the next beat, so that the sequence is assured
to be lined up properly, and Sync next bar is the same idea, but quantized/applied to the next bar of
music instead of the next beat.
j Preset Area A selector/drop down menu with 50 factory presets and nearly 80 empty zones for user
presets. *Note that factory presets cannot be changed, however, you can SAVE AS and choose a
user preset slot if you want to make your own variation on a factory preset. When you press Save
As, in order to seal the deal, you need to choose WHERE you want to save as. Any of the User
Presets are fair game
** Another awesome feature that can help you move between presets on the fly look for ENABLE PRESET
CC. When this is selected, the CC youve entered will allow you to quickly cycle through the factory and user
presets. This way, you can change patterns whenever you want, without having to load a new patch!

k Import/Export allows you to take your presets from one instrument and transfer them over to
another Or easily share your custom presets with friends!
l Velocity pattern randomizer will automatically give you a pattern based on the number of steps
currently within view.

Advice and Wisdom from your friends at Embertone

If you look like this, then you probably dont need this virtual instrument.

When using the arpeggiator, humanization is your friend! This helps keep patterns from stagnating.
Although you cannot change our factory presets, you can Save As and choose a user preset slot.
When you press Save As, in order to seal the deal, you need to choose WHERE you want to save
as. Any of the User Presets are fair game
(stated again for emphasis) With ENABLE PRESET CC Selected (in the arpeggiator view),
whichever CC is entered will allow you to quickly cycle through the factory and user presets. Now you
can change patterns whenever you want, mid-sequence, without having to load a new patch!
Use the Canjo with the will of a superhero, the subtlety of professional athlete, and the wisdom of a 79
year old wittlin Canjist..
Every music project you take part of should include the Canjo.

Again, thanks for supporting our work and we hope you enjoy our beloved Canjo! If you have
any questions or issues with our instruments, email us at info@embertone.com. We will get
back to you ASAP with some answers/assistance.
Love and XXs,
