Kawai Music School Indonesia Steadily Expands Its


Educational Activities

Since its official opening on August 26, 2013, Kawai Music School Indonesia (KMSI), a Kawais

overseas subsidiary is showing a steady progress during such a short period. Located at Alam

Sutera, an upscale area for high class residents, only 30 minutes drive away from Jakarta, the capi-

tal of Indonesia, KMSI owns a showroom with a series of Kawai grand, upright and digital pianos on
display and also six (6) class rooms for both individual and group lessons where Kawai baby grand
pianos are put for use.

Trial lesson conducted by a Japanese instructor at a kindergarten in Jakarta

KMSI provides a variety of courses according to the age of children to help promoting their de-

velopment. The concept of Kawai Music Education system is not only to learn music but also to learn
by music, aiming at fostering individuality through expression activity in each course to form more

broad personality as well as at simply master technic to become good at it. Today, the number of

students is counted as approx. 700 including those at franchised schools and is steadily growing.

National Eisteddfod of Wales


The art festival National Eisteddfod was

held in Llanelli, South Wales from 1st to 9th

of August. The festival takes place annually in


the first week of August at different locations.

During the festival, various tents were erected


around the venue, at which variety of events
like Wales

ethnic

music

and

dance, and some competitions of vocal, piano,

and woodwind instruments are held, while

many exhibition booths showcased musical


instruments, paintings and many kinds of arts,
proving it is not misnomer to name Art Festi-

val. All those events and exhibitions enter-

tained visitors, especially the events held at

ment, while GX-2 was on the stage for the solo competition of woodwind instruments as

SK-EX played at the chorus contest.

CR-40A, Kawai Transparent Grand Piano, Shows its


Brilliant Beauty at Various Places in the World
Everyone knows the elegant beauty of grand pianos draws attention to many people, but the

beauty of CR-40A, Kawai transparent grand piano, stand out among them. Yoshiki, a gifted Japanese musician, always use Kawai transparent grand pianos for his stage. Also, it has been displayed
at various hotels and events all around the world. This article features some of them.

The 5th International Piano Masterclasses at Katowice

Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music

The 5th International Piano Masterclasses was held at Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in

Katowice, Poland. Grown to an internationally respected event over the last years, over 90 pianists
gathered for this time in two weeks. As students from various countries study under conspicuous

professors at this master class, the Katowice is now recognized as one of the leading master classes
in Europe. KAWAI, the official supporting partner of this event, provided a number of instruments

including one SK-EX that was used at the academys main hall for lessons and concerts by the students. The main concert hall was filled with the beautiful sounds of SK-EX, with which professors
and students are impressed.

room. For me, there is no better grand pianos than Shigeru Kawai. It is so much fun to play and

teach on the SK-5, and I do not want to imagine a different instrument in my class-room. It is one
of the most responsive instruments I have ever played!

Variety of other Kawai grand pianos were provided for this time, giving each pianist the oppor-

tunity to try the sound and touch of Kawai. It was a great honor for Kawai that their pianos were

used at such a renowned academy. Needless to say, master class provide the opportunity to built

relationship with influential professors and promising young pianists. Brand awareness and value of
Kawai will surely go up by continuing this kind of activity.

The 16th Kawai Piano Concert at Ryuyo Factory


Led by Mr. La, vice president of Cosmos Corporation, Kawai distributor in South Korea, and Mr.

Lim, the Daeku Branch manager, Jong-Tak Kim, Vice Principal of Gimcheon High School of Arts and
11 pianists arrived at Hamamatsu, Kawais hometown on July 2nd for the 16th Kawai Piano Concert,

which was jointly held by Cosmos Corporation and Kawai at Ryuyo factory.

After the concert, we had an opportunity to introduce our new K series upright pianos we

proudly launched into world markets in addition to the GX grand pianos. While introducing them,
they gave us uncountable impressions which were really valuable to hear since they are working in
the front-line of Korean educational fields.

Moreover, we showed them the production lines, an anechoic chamber and Kawai little museum

in which we believe they were keenly interested.

In the evening, our president, Mr. Hirotaka Kawai invited them to the dinner party and all the

members there shared a pleasant time. We would like to express our appreciation for the supports
by Cosmos Corporation and wish to run for the 20th concert or more together.

Taiwan Musical Instruments Fair 2014


Taipei Musical Instruments Fair, the biggest event for musical instruments in Taiwan, was held
from July 4th to 7th at the Taipei World Trade Center. Approxi-

mately 200,000 people visited there to enjoy the event.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Wen-Chi Chen, president of

Tong Ho Musical & Wooden Works Co., Ltd., Kawais Taiwanese distributor, and Mr. Tu-Huei Lu, sales manager of the
company were on the stage as the members of the Taipei
Musical Instruments Association.

During the fair, Tong Ho displayed Kawai pianos at their


booth which was the largest of all the other piano dealers

booths. Showcased there were 6 units of Kawai grand pianos including our prestige piano Shigeru
Kawai, 8 units of upright pianos, and various
series of Kawai digital pianos.

Young Euro ClassicBerlin


Young Euro Classic (YECL) is one of Germa-

nys most forward thinking, young and creative festivals creating a platform for the best

youth orchestras and musicians from around


the world including orchestras from Brazil,

Spain, Netherlands, China, Russia, Japan and


Germany. During a 10 day period in Berlin

over 1.500 young musicians play in front of


over 30.000 visitors.

Due to renovations at the Konzerthaus in

Berlin, YECL was held for the first time at the

beautiful Admiralspalast and at the world famous Philharmonie. For the first time in 2014

KAWAI agreed to become a partner of the fes-

tival by supplying two concert pianos and one


SK-5 grand piano for the entire festival period.

ship with the Young Euro Classic in 2014 was


a complete success and left many happy per-

formers, audience members and a number of

new valuable contacts for further collaborations.

Young Euro Classic never fails to delight,

year in and year out, not just with the skill of

the young musicians themselves, but also with

bold and unusual musical programs. For this


years edition KAWAI was part of a number of

exciting concerts, showcasing its instruments


to a variety of different orchestras and per-

Remarkable Activities by Bartolomej Stankovic,


the Multi-Talented Pianist
It

is

really

grateful

that

Bartolomej

Stankovic is a big fan of Kawai piano. Born in

Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1988, he got the


master's degree in piano under prof. Pavice
Gvozdic at the Music Academy in Zagreb in
2011. He refined his skills by attending vari-

ous seminars by eminent piano teachers such

as Andrei Pisarev, Grigory Gruzman, Naum


Grubert, Peter Eicher, Jan Jiracek von Armin,

Mr. Stankovic talking about the history of the piano

PIANO-the history and structure was chosen


as the rectors award of University of Zagreb in
2011.

One more his remarkable activity is con-

tribution to the sales of Kawai piano. With his


deep understanding of piano, he has been
recommending to those who asked for his ad-

vice. Since he clearly understands the structure of the pianos and the advantages of Kawais design, it is nothing special for him to

explain how Kawai is superior to the other

brand. Needless to say, he also owns Kawai


grand piano, RX-2.

His talent as a pianist is proved by the

various prizes awarded to him; the first prize

of the Festival of music by Chopin (Tuzla,

2004), Special Prize of the Federal Competition (Tuzla, 2005), the first prize in piano duo

at the Federal Competition 2006, and the se-

cond prize of the Concorso Internazionale


"Premio Salieri" LEGNAGO-Italy.

What differentiate him from other pianists

is his deep knowledge of the piano and lecture

skill. He has been giving many lectures about


musical forms, history of music, piano literature and analysis interpretation at various

places in Eastern Europe. His lecture named
