EndSem Exam.
Total Marks 100
Answer all the questions and dont mix-up Part-A and Part-B answers.

Part A (Marks: 10 x 2 = 20)

1.

What do you mean by Steady Straight and Level flight? What is the normal airspeed for a
commercial airliner in this phase?

2.

Explain why propellers are not suitable for high speed aircraft?

3.

So the ideal and real flow over a bluff body.

4.

Draw the pressure distribution over a circular cylinder showing its peak and stagnation
points.

5.

Draw the variation in drag coefficient with respect to lift coefficient.

6.

Draw an aircraft in the gliding as well as climbing flight showing the forces acting on them
with proper direction.

7.

Write the maximum and minimum load factor of any aircraft doing vertical loop manoeuvre.

8.

9.

Draw a typical flight path for an aircraft during takeoff mentioning the various distances
covered.

10. Explain why the nose of concord airplane is drooped during landing.

Part B (Marks: 5 x 16 = 80)

minimum drag condition and show it on the graph.

A sailplane of weight 5,000 N is taken to the altitude of 300 m with the help of a jet plane
and left free at that altitude. The drag polar of the sail plane is
. Find
the maximum distance covered and maximum duration of flight possible. Assume the
change in density is negligible and the glide angle is very small. Also find the forward speed
of the sail plane in each case. Wing area is 25 m2.

14. Find the ( )
condition for a jet engine aircraft in the climbing flight. Explain the
absolute celling and service sealing.
6+2
An aeroplane of mass 10,000 kg requires 300 kW of thrust power in horizontal
unaccelerated flight at SL. In a second flight condition a mass of 2500 kg is added and it is
climbing at 10 ms-1 at an altitude where the relative density is 0.63. At the negligible angle
of attack, what is the thrust power required in level flight and in climbing flight with small
angle of climbing.

conditions for maximum range and endurance.
