Domain 4a Reflecting on Teaching:

Ms. Freer uses partner-work and group work as frequently as possible in both stand alone
and English instruction. The students are paired up high-low in stand-alone or
heterogeneously in English in order to support the ENL learners. Ms. Freer uses visible
thinking exercises as well as modeling in order to prompt student speaking and engage
students in instruction. Ms. Freer reflects on her lessons and though she may carry over a
lesson from year to year, she always looks to improve it. She follows up to Formal
Observations with a written reflection and makes improvements and amendments to her
instruction as a result of observation feedback.
Ms. Freer works side by side with Mrs. Angela Giosos, a new and fellow ENL Teacher here at
West Hollow this year. They share materials and ideas in order to best meet the needs of
the ENL Students. Being a new teacher herself at West Hollow Middle School, Ms. Freer has
made it a point to help new teachers to the district, helping them to become acclimated
with the school climate and expectations here at WH.
Domin 4b: Maintaining Accurate Records
Ms. Freer maintains a grade book on Infinite Campus. Parents are able to view grades as
soon as they are posted and track their childs progress. This leads to open communication
between teacher, student and parent. Additionally, she takes attendance daily on IC. Ms.
Freer maintains a lesson plan book and utilizes multiple curriculum materials for her ENL
Standalone group.

meetings in which the parents only speak Spanish. Ms. Freer communicates with parents
not only to talk about issues that may arise, but also to keep parents up to date on their
childs positive progress in school and with the English language. Notably, Ms. Freer
facilitated a school-wide drive for a family in need. Successfully, Ms. Freer was able to
collect over $400 in monetary donations as well as clothing and items for a needy family
with a newborn baby.

procedures for ENL Students.

to purchase more iPads for the ENL Students. She has also expressed an interest in setting
up a Language Lab a classroom and workspace for ENL students, with Ms. Angela Giosos,

hopefully next school year, 2017-18.

that takes place every March. We are planning to host it here at West Hollow for the first

three of the four courses were courses given by HHH ENL Director, Lori Campbell. These
courses focused on collaboration among the ENL & English teachers. Additionally, Ms. Freer
attended an outside workshop which focused on bringing technology to the ENL classroom
on December 7, 2016.
