Nov. 2016. In this article, AHS Media informs the reader of facts regarding the question of how
hospitals recruit enough active volunteers to suffice every patients needs. Many hospitals and
hospices make sure that the volunteers recruited are well trained and active. Volunteer training,
which might range up to 20 hours...this can be an even bigger obstacle to recruitment, says Dedra
Stodgill, BS, volunteer for Abbey Hospice. After AHS Media gives the reader examples of how
volunteers at hospices are recognized and trained, they examine how their actions have a strong
impact on their community. Volunteers help those who are in need and even participate in
community events. However, AHS Media exposes bias within younger and older volunteers, We
have a number of volunteers in their 70s and 80s. Hospices and Hospitals would much rather
recruit older volunteers than younger volunteers because of their experience. Fundamentally,
AHS Media explains that every volunteer that is recruited, elderly or adolescent, has to go
through a process of training that ultimately benefits patients needs. This article will enhance my
project because of the usable information regarding volunteer recruitment. It sparks a partial idea
of developing a survey regarding the recruitment process of volunteering.
Brigitte BJM de Brouwer, Anneke L Francke and Diana MJ Delnoij. How nurses and their work
environment affect patient experiences of the quality of care: a qualitative study. BMC Health
Services Research, edited by Brigitte BJM de Brouwer, Anneke L Francke and Diana MJ Delnoij,
BioMed Central, 13 June 2014, bmchealthservres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/14726963-14-249. Accessed 27 Nov. 2016. In the article, Brigitte BJM de Brouwer argues that the
nurses and work environment can easily affect a patients experiences of the quality of care.
Hospitals tend to already be known as an unpleasant visit. However, nurses tend to lighten up the
mood and make the experiences better. In the 1990s, a relation between nursing work
environment and patient experiences were put up to the test. A program called The American

Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) started a recognition program that focused on patient care
and safety. They created good and healthy work environments for nurses and patients, therefore,
the patients experiences in hospitals were significantly better. This article provides an intellectual
overview of how a patients visit to a hospital can be enhanced through positive treatment and
affection. Ultimately, this article will enhance my project by providing me with facts of how I
should approach patients throughout the completion of my capstone. It makes me want to be
extremely polite and kind in order to make their visit 10 times better.
Fenwaycivic. Annual Flower Drive a Success! https://fenwaycivic.org, fenway civic association, 18

In the article, Fenway Civic Association explains the fundamentals of what makes a successful
flower drive. The Fenway Civic association has an annual flower drive for their community. In
order to have a successful flower drive you need to have dedicated community members. The
members of Northeastern University donate flowers from their gardens and contact flower
businesses for this annual flower drive. This annual flower drive is also a way they keep their
community involved and united. This article provides overview of important information
regarding the commencement of a flower drive. This is one of the best examples of a flower drive
for my capstone because it has been happening annually. This article will enhance my project by
exposing the facts and steps to a successful flower drive. It sparks an idea to see if I can also
make my capstone an annually flower drive for Riverside Community Hospital patients as well.
53 Popular Companies that Donate to Nonprofits [https://doublethedonation.com]. Double The
Donation, 2016, doublethedonation.com/companies-that-donate-to-nonprofits/. Accessed 27 Nov.
2016. In the article, Double The Donation shows companies and businesses that can help donate
to hospitals or already do. This article shows 53 companies ranging from Bank of America,
Chevron, Best Buy, Starbucks, Costco, etc. There are hundreds of corporate giving programs that
give up to billions of dollars in donations. When employees donate money, services, or products
to nonprofits, corporations either match or support these donations, and commonly do so

monetarily. Hospitals in Southern California are willing to accept donations, therefore, accepting
flower donations from community members or floral businesses will not be a problem. This
article provides an overview of hundreds of businesses that donate to nonprofits. This is
significant and sparks ideas regarding to my capstone project because in order to get flowers for
the patients I need community members or companies to donate them around Spring time so I can
successfully have a whole floor receive a bouquet of flowers.
Kembrey, Melanie, and Harriet Alexander. Hospital survey: patients not getting attention they need.
http://www.smh.com.au/, The Sydney Morning Herald, 13 Nov. 2014, www.smh.com.au/nsw/hospitalsurvey-patients-not-getting-attention-they-need-20141113-11lsdx.html. Accessed 27 Nov. 2016. In the
article, Melanie Kembrey and Harriet Alexander put together a hospital survey regarding patients not
getting the attention they need. Kembrey and Alexander argue that more than a quarter of patients who
received treatment in major hospital did not feel they were fully included in decisions about their care,
despite an almost unanimous expectation that they should be consulted. Since patients are not getting the
attention they need they were also not involved in decisions of their care. Kembrey and Alexander also
state that traditionally patients have played a passive role in their own care, however, now do not. Patients
want to be able to be active decision makers. This article provides a factual overview that will benefit my
capstone project immensely. Ultimately, it is significant towards my capstone project because it gives me
information about how patients want to be treated and approached. Patients want a right to make their
own decisions. This article sparked an idea for me to bring up two bouquets of flowers at a time so the
patient can make a decision of which one they want or if they do not want one at all.
