PROPOSED SOCIALIZED HOUSING (BUILDING

CONCEPTUALIZATION)
This is created as a central zone with services that benefit the users and the
community in general as the services are readily accessible. Eco-friendly features
were incorporated into the design and were translated into daily savings on utilities
for the residentsa major economic benefit as the units were predominantly
intended for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessnesswhile minimizing
environmental impact caused by the development.
STRUCTURE AND MATERIAL
Structure system applied is a combination between concrete structure in the lower
part of the building and wood structure in the upper parts of the building, thus, the
building weight will be lighter and the construction cost will be relatively cheaper,
without reducing the rigidity of the construction.
HOUSING AND LAND USE
According to the existing Building Coverage Ratio, housing structures need to be
converted into 5-stories high building (maximum). Hence the cost of construction,
infrastructure, and building maintenance will be relatively cheap and cost effective.
To facilitate various needs and to guide different characteristics of the residents, the
project will provide 4 types of building typologies. One with a 4-stories residential
space, 1-storey commercial spaces and health services, 1-storey parking spaces
and the roof as parks and green spaces. The ground floors will be used as
communal social interaction spaces. The functions provided with those spaces are:
work-shop areas (which can be used as working space where residents can sort and
recycle trash into saleable products), commercial spaces like stalls, communal
kitchens and dining rooms, and open spaces for a breathable building.
The buildings are arranges as a cluster, creating a communal open space in
between buildings. The shapes of the buildings are metaphors of the rice terraces.
As rice terraces are diminishing in size when increasing its height, just as to be
related to our structure in terms of culture and human interaction, the lower part of
the structure is for social activities which results to higher possibility in noise
pollution,
as the level goes higher the residential spaces comes in, the incorporations of
atrium allows the floors and users to open up to the central volume. The atrium is
layered with vertical cladding that can be used as gardens a full height community
garden that could serve as focal points of communal living and to encourage a
collective purpose. Apart from housing the greenery, the atrium serves to cool the
area passively through the stack effect, where hot air is induced up through the
vertical spaces, while cool air regulates the indoor temperature entering through

the residential spaces making it a comfortable living environment that is less

dependent on mechanical ventilation. Planter boxes and landscaping mitigates the
heat island effect and improve air quality.
Seating nooks within the green spaces function as core social areas for informal
interactions and act as barriers for the nearby noise, while verandas enable
different paths of movement around the space. The communal spaces encourage
social interaction and activity.

ENVIRONMENTAL FEAUTURES AND EFFORTS

Green and thoughtful design features such as rainwater harvesting and an
innovative atrium that minimize the requirement for air-conditioning. Units are
designed for natural ventilation that improves air circulation even when the doors
and windows are closed. Social and health services are located in the first levels of
the buildings acting as both a resident community resource and as a place that
offers opportunities for the users to socialize.
PROTECTION FROM THE SUN
The timber bars serves to act as shading for residential spaces thus reducing heat
penetration. It was formulated as a solution to fulfil the intention of limiting the
energy use of the building.
