Dec. 2016.
Summary:
Overall, the video brings up a lot of different ingredients that are contained in anabolic
steroids and how those ingredients affect your body. There were all kinds of things that
were in steroids that change the way that your body would look like. These ingredients
are ways that you can see if a bodybuilder is natural or not because your body would look
a certain way than it typically would. There are ways that your body is suppose to look as
you grow and get bigger, but taking steroids goes past those limits so it is easier to tell
that people that are taking anabolic steroids. The video goes through each specific part of
anabolic steroids and how exactly it changes your body. Some of the ways that these
ingredients change your body are fullness or thickness, looking more dry or having water
retention, and having more of a rounder look to your body and muscles.
Application to Research:
This video will be very helpful when it comes to my research because this is completely
new information to me and has a lot to do with steroids in general. This breaks down my
topic into very detailed explanations with exactly how certain ingredients in anabolic
steroids affect certain parts of your body.

The Latest, 11 Feb. 2010, www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBTgj5jz1-A. Accessed 7 Dec. 2016.
Summary:
The video starts off by showing the audience a compilation of news reports that talk
about many stigmas and cases that have to do with steroids. The video then talks about
how there are many misconceptions about how steroids are just automatically assumed to
be the negative one people are always talking about. Then, the video explains exactly
what anabolic steroids are because they are typically the ones that most people debate
about and what they are doing to your body. The video talks about specific hormones that
are synthetically produced with steroids that are naturally produced in both men and
women while bringing up other side effects that may come along with the use of steroids.
Also, they explain that are other false data or stigmas that are not scientifically proven or
the studies have not be completed to the fullest. The video then talks about the the
amount of deaths from other drugs or alcohol compared to those from taking anabolic
steroids. The creator always brings up other statistics that anabolic steroids are in and
how low they are on the list compared to some everyday medications that you could take.
The video ends up with talking and showing more examples of people being caught or
arrested using steroids that are seen in the public eye.
Application to Research:
This would be really helpful for my research because it gives me a good look at a lot of
examples that relate to steroids in the public eye and some of the stigmas that relate to

people using anabolic steroids. This also gives me a lot of information about steroids in
general with some added side effects that I might not have known prior to watching this
video.
Anabolic Steroids Possible Side Effects. Youtube.com, uploaded by Aenergy Channel, 7 Sept.
2016, www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP0HgIT99fg. Accessed 15 Nov. 2016.
Summary:
The video starts off by talking about how anabolic steroids have side effects, but so do all
of or most medication do as well. He then starts to talking about how if steroids are used
properly, they are less dangerous and the side effects can be prevented. Then the video
goes into different types of side effects that can occur when taking anabolic steroids.
Some of the side-effects are severe acne, hair loss, liver disease, heart disease,
gynecomastia, and excessive facial or body hair. Next, the video talks about how most of
the side effects when taking steroids can be reversed if the drugs are stopped from
ingestion. In addition, the video explains that long-term side effects of taking steroids can
be caused by improper use. Overall, the video just goes over the main facts and side
effects of taking anabolic steroids.
Application to Research:
This video should be helpful when I get closer to writing my paper at the end of the year
because there are some side effects that were listed in the video that I was not fully aware
of. This video gives a good amount of background information that could be used to stem
into other topics that relate back to moy overall question of the year. This video should be
able to allow me to go further into my research with better knowledge so that I can
understand and process the information that I am receiving better.

Accessed 7 Dec. 2016.
Summary:
The article starts off by talking about how they understand that taking steroids is without
a doubt a form of cheating, but that they dont think that it deserves the attention of
Congress or being deemed as a national crisis. The author then goes on to talk about how
steroids are not good, but should be handled in different way and by different people that
the people in government. The article points out the opinion that Congress is not doing
good at the jobs that they are suppose to do by law like, social security, war, and welfare,
so why should they be so involved in other things that they should not be so concerned
with? The author believes that having parents or teachers explain these problems with
steroids is much more suitable than having Congress or the government in general
making laws or regulations for them.
Application to Research:

This would be really helpful to add on to my research because it is adding a whole new
topic that I have not really branched out into prior to reading this article. This gives me a
new perspective about having Congress involved with the use of steroids and the authors
opinions of how they or should not be involved with the topic at all.

sites.psu.edu/siowfa15/2015/10/29/is-weightlifting-bad-for-you-in-the-long-run/.
Summary:
The article starts off by the author asking a overall question that he wants to answer for
himself and to also inform other about the information that he found. He talks about how
he has some concerns about him weightlifting when he started in college because of his
grandfather having issues with older age after weightlifting. His grandfather was weight
lifting for almost his entire life and therefore had problems with his older age just trying
to get around the house. The author then begins to explain some of the cons that are
typically associated with not properly weight lifting. A few examples are not lifting with
the proper knowledge of what you are doing, making sure that you dont have high blood
pressure with weight lifting causing it to be higher, and people possibly suffering joint
pain while and after your workouts. He also provides the opposite opinion on the topic at
hand and can agree with most of what is being said. He provides some stats to give
evidence of how weight lifting could be good in the long run. The author overall agrees
that as long as you are lifting properly and dont let your ego, weightlifting is not that bad
in the long run.
Application to Research:
This article could help me with my search because it allows me to learn more about my
topic in a general standpoint. The more information that I am able to contain, the better
my project will come out and easier it will be to make at the end of the year. I want to be
able to learn the most information that I can to better my knowledge of fitness in general
to know how to make a better end of the year project and to be able to apply it to my
everyday lifestyle.

Summary:

The article starts off by talking what hormones do to your body, what glands they are
produced by, and what where hormones typically target. Then the article started talking about the
origin of the word hormone, what they are exactly and what the study of hormones is really
called. Next, the author explains how steroids are small enough to get into your cells, which
most things arent able to do. The steroids get into your cells and mutate the original DNA that
your body produces; therefore, your body gives off more off your natural hormones than you
would typically produce. After, the article talks about certain glands that produces hormones and
specific body parts that are affected in the process. The author explains the differences that
hormones have on your body based on your gender because there is without a doubt a difference
that the hormones have. Finally, the article shows that there are a lot more effects on the female
reproductive organs than the effects that hormones have on the mens.
Application to Research:
This will be really helpful when it comes to having to do the end of the year because the
article deals with hormones. Steroids have a lot to do with your bodys natural hormones, but I
didnt know exactly what they did to them. This is not any knowledge that I previously know
before reading this article.

Real, 8 Jan. 2014, www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKxF1N-YPEY. Accessed 15 Nov. 2016.
Summary:
The video starts off by talking about how the use of growth hormone and later mixed in
with steroids have been used since awhile back. They then start to talk about how growth
hormones by themselves are not really that bad for you, even though they have a bad
stigma, but when they get mixed with steroids, it get taken to the next level. The person
starts to talk about how they used to cycle on and off or steroids from about twelve years
and there were no crazy side effects that he experienced throughout his use. He was
talking about his experience alone, but he explained that he only went through very wild
side effects, compared to what people typically think about people that use steroids. He
explained that the side effects definitely vary from one person to the next because
everyones body reacts differently. The video the goes on to explain that out of all the
drugs out there, taking it twelve years very consistently, it is much more of a wild drug.
He then says how it is just a hormone in the body. Next, he brings up the fact that there
are many over the counter drugs out there that could do a lot worse damage to your
system compared to steroids.
Application to Research:
This video is going to be really helpful in the end because it allow me to see both sides of
what steroids could do to you. It also gives me a good perspective of a bodybuilder that
once used steroids really thinks about the drug. The video gives me a very unique
perspective on how to look at anabolic steroids and what other things are out there that
people arent even aware of.

anabolic steroids started to become a bigger substance. The author finishes it off by talking about
other drug-sport scandals and how the sport industries have started to crack down more on the
substance users and their punishments.

The article is talking about how as the increase of supplements, like whey protein, and
steroids have caused men to have bad eating disorders. Feller talks about how mens bodies are
increasingly being objectified, so men tend to use this supplements to try and change the way
their bodies look. Some men use the supplements as meal replacements instead of what the
intended use is.There was a study done that showed how mens minds or bodies changed over a
period of time when working out at least twice a week and taking some sort of supplement. A
large portion of the group saw that they increased their supplement intake over the span of time
to try and better themselves. Others would use the supplements as replacements for their meals
and even some ended up in the hospital because of liver or kidney issues due to the supplement
use.
Application to Research:

I could use this information to better understand the mindset of some people in the
workout field and I would be able to use this to better the argument for my project at the end of
the year. The more knowledged I have about working out in general, the better the project will
turn out.

greatist.com/move/stretch-before-or-after-workout. Accessed 19 Oct. 2016.
Summary:
The author provides examples/doctorate citations for both sides of the article for
the better and the worse. Golde started off the article by first talking about getting moving prior
to your workouts to better your performance. The author says that she believes that getting
warmed up using dynamic movements instead of static movements to improve the way you
workout. She states that doing dynamic movements actually warms up your body to improve the
way you workout. The dynamic movements actually help you avoid injuries while you workout
according to one of her sources. She states that not only does it help avoid injury, but also helps
in many different categories of athletic performance. These categories include, strength,
endurance, agility and anaerobic activity. The second part of the article talks about how static
stretching could actually hurt the your workout, instead of improving it in anyway. Many studies
have shown that static stretching has actually decreased the performance of anything workout
related from running slower to lifting less weight. Overall the article shows that warming up with
dynamic movements is much better than static stretching would be.
Application to Research:
This article could be very helpful to me during my research/ researching my
research question because it has to do with working out in general. My research question is most
likely going to have something to do with working out, so it is important that I get a better
understanding of the workout world in general. Knowing most things about the workout

the fact that most of the steroid users were around the age twenty because they were also
surrounded with the issue and they also saw other pros in the gym using them as well. The author
talks about the fact that no one watching others taking steroids dont get to see the negative sides
of using. The outsiders only see you lifting more weight and getting ten folds the size that you
were just a few weeks ago. There are a lot more negative effects that the viewers dont really get
a chance to understand. He explains that no one helped him when he was actively trying to
search for people to get the help that he needed and how much worse he felt after he took
steroids for only four months. The author ends of the article by explaining his overall symptoms
of using steroids and the difference in the steroids that athletes and the average joe take. His
ending sentence leaves the reader thinking about what steroids can actually do to you and that
heaven is on your side.

kinds of different hormones that your body produces naturally while working out and the
difference that taking anabolic steroids makes. They change the levels that they produce which
actually help you in the long run. The video then goes on to talk about the negative side of taking
anabolic steroids. For example in men, they start to get more acne, grow a beard, and even the
chest area starts to grow more. For women, they start to get some balding and other like
symptoms. These are just the easy going ones because there are possible symptoms for both men

Summary:
This article begins by talking about the overall concept of taking anabolic steroids and
what it is typically associated with. The author continues by talking about the some of the studies
that have gone on with this topic. The author goes on further to talk about how each of the parts
of the body is affected with the use of anabolic steroids. They talk about the effect of the
hormonal system, the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, the liver, the skin, and
what infections you could get. They go into detail about how each of the systems are affected
and what the overall effect is by using the steroids. The author talks about how anabolic steroids
might affect your behavior and that they might become addictive. The article states some
statistics that have to deal with how anabolic steroids, like how many men take them. The author
just gives an overall argument of what anabolic steroids do to your body and why people might
actually use them.
Application to Research:
This could be useful because this is a very controversial topic, especially in the fitness
life, that could help me create an overall question for the year. Steroids are very commonly used
now and days, so it is important to know a lot about them and what they could do to your body. It
is typical to hear the people using anabolic steroids with people that you may look up to, so
knowing why they might do it or if using them is safe or not. I believe that knowing about this
topic is very important and a good controversial topic that I could look more into.

different situation that would not have been expected. Next, the narrator explains some of the
negative side effects that come with taking anabolic steroids. Some of those negative
physiological side effects are drug dependence, depression, mood swings, and the all famous

many different problems with depression and other negative effects that it has on your body. The
narrator states that negative effects on your emotions and mind in a little more detail once again.
After the video talks about the negative physiological effects again, it talks about some of the
positive effects that comes with using steroids. There are not as many positives when it is
compared to the negatives, but there are without a doubt a good amount of positive effects that
steroids have on your whole body. The creator finishes off the video explaining how the negative
always outweigh the positive effects when using steroids.
Application to Research:
This video will be able to help me get a better understanding of the psychological effects
that steroids have because prior to this I typically only understand the overall effects of my
physical effects that it had. This gives me more detailed information that I had not previously

Shortsleeve, Cassie. Should Kids Lift Weights? MensHealth.com, 31 July 2012,
www.menshealth.com/fitness/should-kids-lift-weights. Accessed 21 Sept. 2016.
Summary:
In the article there are arguments for both sides of whether or not younger kids should be weight
lifting due to many reasons. The first thing that was brought up was the fact that younger kids
lifting weights does have the chance to mess with the kids growth plates. They say that the
reason why this happens is because the kids are using too much weight without the proper
technique, which causes the injuries and damages to the growth plates. The other side was argued
that smart strength training is very acceptable as long as it is done in an appropriate way with
good safety precautions. The article talks about really young kids should just be active and not
really do so much exercise activities, but as they get older incorporating more strength training
type exercises is a very healthy thing to do. The author talks about making sure the form that you
use is very good before you move on to too much weight because that it could cause injury if not
done properly. In addition, the article shows multiple steps to get kids into strength training
without hurting themselves and doing it in a safer way.
Application to Research:
I could use this research as a possible question for me to figure out more in this type of lifting for
younger kids. I could also use this as more background information to know more about my
topic in general to better my end result for my project.
Siegel, Noah. The Truth about Overtraining. Bodybuilding.com, 12 Mar. 2015,
www.bodybuilding.com/fun/the-truth-about-overtraining.html. Accessed 19 Oct. 2016.
Summary:
There are many topic brought up in this article that really address a question that I am
highly considering as my research question for the year. The author started off the article by
saying that most of the people that complain about overtraining are not actually overtrained and
just would like to think that. Siegel believes that about 98.5 percent of the people that believe
they are overtrained, actually just want to believe that they are overtrained. However, there are
actually some signs that people could use to see if they are truly overtrained or just want to think
that they are overtrained. Some of the warning signs that people can use are you being weaker
than normal, you not feeling the way you normally do towards eating/your workout, you
suddenly lose weight, or you are ill or injured without a quick recovery. These are all signs that
you may be overtraining during your workouts. The author end off the article with ways to fix
your program so that you dont hurt yourself and can better your workouts.
Application to Research:
This could be a very important and useful article for me to apply to my research
question/ research paper. I am very interested in the topic of working out and keeping healthy, so
this could help with my overall question about this topic. The topic of overtraining is a very
controversial conversation to be brought up, so I know more about my overall topic.

having to go take things behind everyones back that might have some random ingredients that
would affect the body. The author then goes on to talk about how this has been in sports since the
beginning and that it is just part of the spirit of the sport to want to better oneself.
Application to Research:
I could use this to help my research because this is good article that defends one side over
the other for a very controversial topic. Many people would disagree with this guy saying that
taking anabolic steroids are not safe and they should not be used in sports, but this guy talks
about specific points where they would actually makes sense to use steroids.

The article starts off by talking about what the term bodybuilding really means and
how anabolic steroids are related to the term. Then the article explains what people are typically
looking for when they want to be getting into competition shape, which is what is called the
look, which is the biggest amount of muscle that you can have with the least amount of fat that
you can have safely. Next, the article talks about the origins of how bodybuilding came around to
be and how different it was from what we focus on in the bodybuilding competitions that we host
today. In addition to that, the author talks about who the first bodybuilder was and how he got
to be were he was through his actions and the looks that he had. Next, the author talks about how
bodybuilding contests start to show up and how they are starting to look more like the ones that
we are used to seeing now and days. Then, the article explains how the title of Mr. America
comes around and what that title means in the bodybuilding world. This also shows that
bodybuilding has become a very wide spread idea and practice. After this idea, bodybuilding gets
a lot more organized and starts to be pretty much what we have come to know as the
competitions that we see today. Not too long after bodybuilding gets really popular, women are
starting to be introduced to the idea of bodybuilding and get into the competitions as well.
Application to Research:
This article is really helpful for my research because it talks about the history of
bodybuilding which has a huge connection to what steroids have come to today and what they
are used for most commonly. Bodybuilding and steroids have come a long way from their origins
and sometimes sadly have caused some awful traditions in our society.
Top 10 Anabolic Steroids Myths and Dangers. Youtube.com, uploaded by Enc2011, 7 Jan.
2014, www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkKAjShXFxE. Accessed 30 Nov. 2016.
Summary:
This video went on to explain ten different myths and possible dangers about taking
anabolic steroids. The video starts off by telling what the possible myth or danger is and gives a
small paragraph explaining why or how the statement if wrong. The explanations go into pretty
good detail to really explain exactly how the myth or danger is wrong or where the thought could
be originated from. One example is that taking steroids would reduce the endurance of the person
using them. This is actually a false statement according to the video because taking steroids
actually increases the amount of red blood cells in your body which is one of the most important
physiological components for athletes. This shows how the myth is stated and the rebutted with
the the actual fact that is presented by the creator of the video.

Application to Research:
This video will be really helpful because it allows me to see possible myths and danger in
the world about steroids that I might not have thought of prior to watching this video. I am also
able to research more topics that I saw in the video, so that I could go deeper into my topic while
getting more information that I have not previously looked into. I like to be able to see all these
topics because it allows me to see what I could branch more into and look into to extended the
knowledge I have on my topic.

Summary:
The article starts off by just opening up about what steroids are and what they mean to the
youth now. West talks about how the fact that we live in an image-obsessed culture really
increases the use and problem with steroids. Kids are so concerned about how they look that they
would do anything, harmful or not, to get in a good enough shape where they feel comfortable
with their body. He then goes on to talk about the problem with the cost of abusing steroids. The
cost of steroids is ridiculously high and to use a lot of them would not be very cost efficient. The
article finally goes on to talk about how children need better influences in their life. He talks
about how so many people are using these substances even in places where there are many young
children looking up to them.
Application to Research:
I could use this because it really applies to my research question now that I have
narrowed it down more. I could use this as an opinionated article to talk about the spread of
steroids use and could talk about the negative effects of steroids in general.

steroids are in a general perspective. It then goes into explaining different ways that steroids
could be used along with a simple definition. Next, you are given a much more detailed
explanation of what steroids actually do to help your body get into what you see others doing.
The video goes on by talking about slang names for anabolic steroids that are used around other
places. Then, the video talks about the two different types of steroids that are produced naturally
in the body. It explains why anabolic steroids help produce these at a higher rate, which affects
the way that you can get bigger and stronger at a much faster pace. Overall, the video talks about
the different types of steroids and how they affect the body in different ways.

Application:
This video is going to be able to help me with my research because it breaks down the
different types of steroids into more specific details which I had not known prior to watching it.
It also gives me some slang words that I would be able to use to help me understand other
readings as I go further into other studies relating to the topic. This video will just help with my
overall studies with the physical fitness and my general topic.
