Denon X4000 Factory Reset

1.0 Save Settings

1.1. Using IE to perform a SAVE of the config.dat file may or may not work, however using another browser
will generally work every time. Turn ON the receiver but select a non-network input. Enter the following URL
into your laptop/desktop web browser replacing the 192.168.1.xxx with your own unit's IP address. The URL is
case-sensitive.
1.2. <192.168.1.xxx/SETUP/OTHERS/SAVE/f_config_save.asp>
1.3. This dialog should be displayed on the laptop:

1.4. If you are having difficulty SAVE(ing) a file, make sure to stop any network playback by first playing
something on the network and then either pressing the Stop Playback (black square) or the ENTER button on
the remote for a few seconds. You may also need to set "Network Standby" to OFF (contrary to what the
Owner's manual indicates).
1.5. The config.dat file should be about 348kB for all models except the X4000/X4100W (952kB); however, it's
a good idea to confirm the AVR is actually saving data in the file as the file size will be 348kB or 952kB whether
it's all zeroes or filled with zeroes and some data. If it is all zeroes, it will not LOAD successfully. Use a
Windows or Mac hex viewer to view the file and confirm whether it is all zeroes or not. (Tip: some word
processors will also display the HEX codes if you rename a copy of the file to config.txt.) If you do get a file
with all zeroes or if a file with data won't load properly, then set Network Standby to OFF/Off in Standby,
cycle the AVR OFF/ON and then try a SAVE again which should result in a config.dat file with non-zero data.
1.6. It's also a good idea to SAVE the settings prior to a firmware update even though firmware updates
generally don't change the system settings. If you are having difficulty using IE, try using Firefox or Chrome
(see Post #2775 of the 2013 Denon AVR thread). If still no joy when trying to LOAD the config.dat file, try
setting IP Control to "Off in Standby", cycle the AVR to OFF, then ON again and try the LOAD. If yet still no
joy, try resetting the microprocessor and then do the LOAD again.

2.0. Microprocessor Reset

2.1. Turn off the power using ON/STANDBY.
2.2. Press ON/STANDBY while simultaneously pressing "INFO" and "BACK" (under front panel flap).
2.3. Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons (hold for at least 4-5
seconds). If in step 2.3 the display does not flash at intervals of about 1 second, start over from step 2.0.
2.4. jdsmoothie from the AVS Denon forum suggests doing this rest 4 or 5 times in a row, not just once.
3.0. Optional: Network & Microprocessor Reset
3.1. Turn off the power using ON/STANDBY.
3.2. Press ON/STANDBY while simultaneously pressing the "UP" and "DOWN" arrows (under front panel
flap).
3.3. Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons (hold for at least 4-5
seconds). If in step 3.3 the display does not flash at intervals of about 1 second, start over from step 3.0.
3.4. jdsmoothie from the AVS Denon forum suggests doing this rest 4 or 5 times in a row, not just once.
4.0. Load Settings
4.1. Using IE to perform a LOAD of the config.dat file may or may not work, however using another browser
will generally work every time. Enter the following URLs into your laptop/desktop web browser replacing the
192.168.1.xxx with your own unit's IP address. The URL is case-sensitive.
4.2. <192.168.1.xxx/SETUP/OTHERS/LOAD/f_config_load.asp>
4.3. The following dialog should be displayed on the laptop:

4.4. Click on Choose File and navigate to the location where you saved the config file. Select it, and then click
Upload.
4.5. The laptop should display an "Uploading" message in the lower left corner of its display. Once the file is
uploaded to the AVR (~ 30 seconds), the AVR will power to Standby and display "Loading" on the front panel
display. The LOAD process will take about 6 minutes.
4.6. If the LOAD has completed successfully, a Load Completed image should be displayed on your laptop
and the AVR will power back ON again (Yeh!).
