From the
Welcome back! I hope all of you are off to a great start in your new
classes. It should be a wonderful semester, with lots of planned
programs, events, and activities in the Honors Center.
This week, we're holding two information sessions on the Dixon
Global Policy Scholars (GPS) Program. Dixon GPS offers current
Honors students the opportunity for international travel, specialized courses, and intensive advising aimed at preparing them for
the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, and other prestigious scholarships. The program is open to all first- and second-year Honors
students.
The information sessions will be held this week in the Honors Center, as follows:

Wednesday, January 18 |12:30pm | Large Conference Room

(located in the Honors College Office Suite, Room 180)

Thursday, January 19 | 5:00pm | Classroom 2

I'll be there, along with my colleagues Ricki Shine and Dr. Jeff Fine
and several current Dixon GPS students.
Applications and letters of support must be submitted by Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Final selection will be based on your transcript, written application, letter of support, and (for those selected) a personal interview. For details, including eligibility requirements, see http://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/current-students/
out-of-class/dixonGPS/index.html.
Dixon GPS students will travel to Paris, France, and Berlin, Germany, in May 2017, with the majority of costs covered by the Honors
College. They will also be required to enroll in two specialized
courses--one on the "World of Ideas" and one on the "International
Public Policy Process" in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018, respectively. Dixon GPS students will also have many other educational opportunities available to them.
We look forward to seeing you at the information sessions, and to
receiving your Dixon GPS applications!

Research provides a challenging yet enjoyable opportunity to work closely with faculty,

enhance your critical thinking skills, and advance your research field. That's why
CUSG created the Drop-in Research Spotlight to connect students with research opportunities. On Tuesdays at 12:30pm, a faculty member will present
their research for about 20 minutes in the main lobby of Cooper Library. No
registration is necessary, but the first 10 students to register will receive a free
lunch. The Drop-in Research Spotlight is interdisciplinary - all students are welcome! The first presentation for this semester will take place on January 24 and
will feature the Director of Creative Inquiry, who will talk about CI at Clemson.
This is a great opportunity to interact with faculty on a personal level and to get
involved in the great research happening at Clemson. To summarize:
Drop-in Research Spotlight
When: Tuesdays at 12:30pm
Where: the 4th floor of Cooper Library
What: a 20-minute research presentation followed by a question and answer period
Why: to foster undergraduate research from a faculty and student perspective
