Course Goals:
This course studies the major systems of the body. Students will also study introductory concepts
of diseases, treatments, public health, medical terminology and insurance, and health science
careers. This course is designed for students with a strong interest in the health or medical field
of study and is a component course of the Health SLC. Sexually Transmitted Diseases, (STDs),
Human Reproduction, Childbirth and Contraception methods will also be introduced.

13) Digestive System and Nutrition
14) Urinary System
15) Male Reproductive System

Grading Distribution: (all values are approximate)
60% Classwork, Labs, Posters, Term Papers, and Active Participation (20%)
40% Tests, Quizzes, and Research Projects
Course Requirements:
to 1 Binder: Please keep all your Cornell Notes neat and organized along
with this syllabus. Please keep all assignments in your binder.
Notebook with pages that can tear out.
Pencils / markers / colored pencils / highlighters - PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN
PENCIL AND PAPER EVERYDAY TO CLASS! Students will often be
required to take Cornell Notes in class.
Lots of binder paper.
Classroom Rules:
1. Respect your classmates, your teacher, and your classroom.
2. Do not cause any disruptions: talking out of turn, yelling, screaming, profanity, vulgarity,
bullying, or misbehavior of any sort.
3. Cell phones are to be switch off and put away. Unauthorized phone use in class will
result in confiscation. Students may use phones for academic purposes only if the
instructor grants permission.
4. Do not vandalize desks, tables, or chairs (i.e. sticking gum under desks, scraping words
onto tables, etc). Please clean up all messes.
5. As this is a laboratory classroom, no eating or drinking in class (plain water is ok).
6. No Hats, No Hoodies, No Headphones, Thank you!
7. A verbal warning will be given for the first violation of any of these rules. After
this, a phone call may be made to the parents. If the problem persists, a disciplinary
referral will be made. Electronic devices may be confiscated and sent to the main
office and will be made available only after school.
