Course Assignments MPPU1003 Innovation in Learning and Teaching

1. Article Review (Individual - 10%)
Student need to review 4 articles/journals regarding :
i - 2 articles about innovation in teaching and learning.
ii- 2 articles about computational thinking
Prepare the report minimum of 10 pages in length, double-spaced; with one inch margins
all around, A4 paper size. The text should be Times-New-Romans in 12-point font. All
references in your reviews should be cited in APA format at the end of your review.
Attach together the respective articles in the report as the appendix.

2. Proposal (Group - 20%)

Students need to prepare and present their proposal based on the guideline mentioned below:
What are the problems in learning and teaching?
The process of proposing a project (maybe more than one project) is more likely begin with
finding the problems. However, the problems that you are looking MUST occur in learning and
teaching environment. It can be either the teaching methods or learning styles or elsewhere in
this teaching and learning environment. You and the team members could identify the problems
by making reflections based on own experiences. What you looking are the REAL or
AUTHENTIC problems; that you find critical and need solutions.
Later in the process of identification, discuss in the group for the solutions and write a project
proposal (can be more than one).

What should be in and out, in your proposal?

The good (not perfect) project proposal would comprise (1) a problem background where the
idea of innovation had come. However, very long explanation on problem background may
contribute to a wide and complex problem. Choose to write a sharp and focus problem
background by applying simple sentence. Begins with a short brief problems background; the
proposal may continue with (2) a problem analysis (compulsory), which is very helpful to
define the problem and to clarify the idea for solutions. The proposal, of course, (3) should
clearly explain the solution (the best) to overcome the stated problem. Sometimes, an
illustration(s) is needed to further understand what the solution all about is. It is needed
especially for the solution that aims to produce tangible product. Successful plan always started
with a strong project development plan. Therefore, (4) a clear project development model
(method(s) to develop the project) is needed, in fact crucial. You might select one established
model or modified model based on your research. It is expected there will be an explanation on
(5) the material(s) and (6) the costing of the project if it is a tangible product. The high
quality of material may put away your money to the drain, worst case it is going to be rejected,
perhaps. Therefore, recycle material and free accessible material are the recommended materials.
The proposal should also include explanation on (7) beneficial of the project and (8)
originality aspect. A (9) commercial aspect of the product might impress the panel to accept
your project proposal. The last but not least, (10) a milestone chart should be appear in the
proposal.
The rejection of project proposal may due to the difficulty level, time consume and theme off.

The preparation for the project proposal presentation day

The proposal stage is one of the vital stages in this subject. The project members (group) must
decide the best proposal among the ideas that has been produced. After the selection among the
group, project leader must decide who will be the group representative for the presentation. The
representative has to be a person who is able to convey the proposal properly. Other than
determination, the presenter also should capable to convince the panel(s) to accept the proposal.
Each group is given 10 minutes presentation either for 1 or 3 project proposals. Therefore, avoid
from waste time with long introduction of group members or what so ever.

3. Intellectual Property (Group 10%)
Students are required to submit the IP. The registration could be done by your lecturer. You are
advisable to fill the softcopy of IP form. The softcopy of the IP form can be downloaded from

4. Project Progress (Group task - 20%)
Students need to submit their progress report on week 8.
An assessment that takes place during a project or process, that conveys details such as:
- It is an ongoing effort,
- What has been done,
- what sub-goals have been accomplished,
- What activities are delayed or in advance,
- what resources have been expended,
- what problems have been encountered,
- whether the project or process is expected to be completed on time and within budget,
- What action is needed

The Format:
1. Project Details - Name of the project, dates, including computational thinking skills
which reflects through collaborative work among members in the group
2. Project Status
3. Tasks and work completed during period
4. Tasks and work expected to be completed during the next period
5. Issues, problems and risks that affect the project
6. Actions to be taken by sponsor and others
5. Final Project
Final project will cover three tasks that consist of
- Product (10%)
- Technical paper (20%)
- Leadership (5%)
Students will need to present the final product and submit the technical paper on week 13-14.
Leadership will be assessed through peer and self-assessment.
The format of writing will follow the book chapter format. Below are the descriptions and
writing guidelines:
i.

INTRODUCTION (1 page)
You should introduce your article by addressing issues related to the developing and
proposing the project
General explanation to show why the project is important to be proposed

ii. ANALYSIS ON LITERATURES (3 pages)

This is more like critical analysis on the related literatures regarding the issues that you
have discussed in the introduction
More critical explanation on what have been found by related previous studies
At the end of the discussion you should highlight the importance of the project to address
issues that have been raised by the previous researchers
(similar like problem background in RS1)

iii.

METHODOLOGY (2 pages)
In this section you should highlight the process of developing the project
The process of testing the project at school
The instrument used (to get feedback from the respondents)
And how the data will be analysed

iv. DATA ANALYSIS (1 page)

This part is purposely to show evidences of how effective, or practical, or simple the
project that you have conducted
You need to discuss the findings by using the feedback data that you have collected

v.

DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATION (1 page)

You have to make conclusion by discussing and comparing the feedback that you have
presented with the previous studies in section 2
Recommendation can be presented but only by using your findings

vi. LIST OF REFERENCES

- List down every single reference that you have cited especially in section 1 and 2
6. Exhibition (Group 5%)
The exhibition will be conducted in Week 15, and the participation is COMPULSORY
for every student.
It is important to note that IP rights are required to be registered for every product prior
the exhibition.
Project will be assessed by a panel of external examiners, and the weightage of the
assessment is 5%.
Guidelines for Exhibition:
i.
Choose a tentative title and write a brief description of your exhibition
ii.
Title should be clear and concrete
communicate the big, basic idea of the exhibition
make viewers curious
iii. The brief description should be two or three sentences long
articulate the big idea of the exhibition and why it is important or
interesting towards innovation
captions should be active, concrete, clear and concise
