The Social Scientist
Dont ever let what anyone says affect your decisions about things in the future and
anytime you dont succeed at something it is just an opportunity to try again (Thornebrooke).
Crystal pronounced her sage advice while sitting in the Ikea cafeteria with her silky brown hair
in a messy bun, with glasses as big as her future and her smile bright enough to make anyone
happy. Living life on her own terms, Crystal is a bold individual, never letting anyone stop her
from conquering her dreams. A world filled with peace and equality is a must and will be
accomplished during Crystals lifetime.
As a social scientist who graduated from Portland State University, Crystal encourages
everyone with a passion to follow their dreams. Currently residing in Bronx, New York Crystal
lives with her husband who attends Fordham University to become a Medieval Professor. During
the fall, Crystal has been preparing for a lab in January that tests brain activity on numerous
volunteer participants while they speak different languages. At eleven years old, Crystal knew
that this was her ideal path in life. However, it took discipline and dedication to qualify for the
career Crystal is now a part of, and in continuing her education to receive a PhD in philosophy.
As a young child, Crystal felt deeply connected to her Turkish roots. As a first generation
Turkish descendant, Crystal faces many problems and challenges in the post 9/11 society.
Crystals thoughts have been criticized by Americans who do not understand the Muslim

community. As a social scientist, Crystal observes how people interact and develop as a culture
through examining society. After 9/11 many people have criticized the muslim religion in a
negative way, pushing muslims away and remain hidden, however for Crystal other people views
do not matter.
Adapting to 21st century ideals, Crystal develops her own opinions and feelings. As a
Muslim, Crystal believes in giving back to the less fortunate and providing kindness to everyone
around her as she was raised in the Islamic religion. Those who performed the 9/11 attacks
caused a negative outlook on the Muslim religion, but as an American Muslim Crystal hopes that
people understand that not everyone is a terrorist. In this day and age it is hard to compose
thoughts outside or societal views, hoever Crystal is determined to change the negative minds of
others.
Observing society and relationships among individuals is Crystals way of life. Using her
degree to witness how society changes over the generations. Including promoting equality and
education through profit or charity work (Thornebrooke). If Crystal had a sufficient amount of
money these values would become a reality. She would enforce workplace equality in every
corportation and ensure that indifferent countries women and children have access to food,
clean water, and shelter (Thornebrooke).
Not only has Crystal developed a career for herself but has also lived out her life by
travelling around the world. The quaint, medieval city of Bruges, Belgium is Crystals favorite
place filled with beautiful, well designed architecture (Thornebrooke). Having been to
Belgium multiple times for an extended amount of time, Crystal developed a love for the city as
she created fond memories.

Though she loves Bruges, Crystals favorite place to live is in her hometown of Portland,
Oregon. Diverse communities, green environments, and positivity is everything Oregon stands
for. Oregon is filled with educated and down to earth people like Crystal. In the northwest, there
is more freedom to be yourself (Thornebrooke). She encourages people to picture a place
where anyone can stroll the streets with his own creative attire and not receive any judgment
passed on them by strangers. The difference is in the materialistic ideals that each place holds,
New York being an area where a modern society has taken over as opposed to the traditions of
Oregon.
Crystal misses the old ideals that Oregon offers, and also misses its defined cuisine of
mac and cheese at a restaurant called Night Light Lounge. The immaculate spread of mac and
cheese that Crystal loves so much makes her mouth water just imagining the smell and taste of
the gourmet food. Although, Crystal is happy with her new life and journey, but sad to leave the
comfort of her hometown with access to the best food and a culture not based on materialism.
In her young age, Crystal has discovered the world travelling to many beautiful places
but one place that always brings back fond memories is her time spent at Misquamicut beach in
RI. The smell of fries cooking at the concession stand, the soft sand gently covering her feet, the
waves crashing as all the children play are the memories that have stayed with Crystal
throughout her life. At the age of five,Crystal remembers exploring the beautiful beach, playing
in the beating sun while swimming in her cute, little pink bikini. The Misquamicut beach was her
favorite place to visit as a child and even though she visits the beaches less often, the wonderful
sights will stick with Crystal for a lifetime to come.

As Crystal grew older and wiser her new hobbies became hot yoga and thinking. Hot
yoga, an intense workout performed in a room set at 92-105 degrees fahrenheit allows Crystal to
relieve any stress or worries she may have. Staying fit and healthy is what Crystal strives to do,
gravitating toward healthier food options to provide her body with the proper nutrients needed.
In addition to, Crystal loves to think, think about anything the pops into her mind whether work,
society, or the current piece of news found on social media. Crystal escapes reality for a few
minutes through her various hobbies that keep her occupied and content.
Exploring everything life has to offer, Crystal has traveled the world. Discovering the
beauty of nature while being suuronded by loved ones. Nothing in life can bring Crystal down,
her determination and devotion to education sets her apart. Following her heart at the young age
of eleven allowed Crystal to become a successful social scientist. Someone who can observe
peoples interactions with themselves and the world around them. Crystal is an outstanding
individual with a heart of gold ready to tackle on any obstacles the world has to offer.
