Proposal
Introduction:
In preparing for our first SGO Meeting on September 20th, these are the majority of the projects that the
SGO is planning on working on in the case that we dont have the opportunity to discuss them during the
meeting on Tuesday.
Projects:
1. Big Sibling Program
Summary - W
e want to establish a strong bond in the LaGuardia community between all
different classes. The Big Sibling Program involves a Senior, and an incoming
Freshman/Sophomore. The Senior will be a figure who answers questions, helps with
time management, can spend time at least once a week after/during school, etc. This will
make the high school transition process much easier.
Steps in Place - Opt-In Google Sheet Form to match Seniors and Freshmen; Seniors can
request a freshmen from their major, while freshmen will get who they get! Will use
LaGuardia Emails to sign into the form, may provide an additional email to get in contact
with their big/little sib; Advertising on Facebook Pages.
2. LaGuardia Text Deadline System
Summary - W
e want to create a texting system in order to keep students in check with all
deadlines/responsibilities. This can be organized into sections: Classes (Seniors, Juniors,
etc.), College Applications, Performance Opportunities, Majors (Dance, Instrumental,
etc.), School Shows (Les Miserables, Opera, etc.).
Example Texts: Seniors, the FAFSA form becomes available through the
http://fafsa.edu.gov website October 1st. Start reviewing and filling this out with your
parents as federal financial aid is awarded on first-come, first-serve basis.
Juniors, the college financial aid meeting will be held next Wednesday, May 10th.
Les Miserables tickets are SOLD OUT for the Thursday and Saturday Shows. Tickets
are still AVAILABLE for Friday and Sunday.
3. Arranging Studio Time
Summary - M
any students are still in support for studio time (after-school). We believe
one of the bulletin boards should have a list of teachers/emails to contact if you would
like to have after school time. It is not realistic for the teachers to stay after school if no
students are showing up, but if students contact, the teacher will know when to stay after.
4. SGO Website
Summary - W
e want to keep the student body up to date on our goals, and hopefully this
website can be used by other SGO groups after the 2016-17 academic year. This website
would be unaffiliated with the DOE/school, and it would be stated clearly that it was run
entirely by students.
Steps in Place - Meeting after school in order to create (Preferably Weebly).
5. Outside Garden
Summary - E
mpty soil beds outside of the school building should be filled with flowers
and other plants. Will be 100% student organized and maintained (A couple teachers
willing to facilitate the process)--no custodial involvement needed.

Proposal

Steps in Place - In contact with Environmental Club; Creating Planting

Schedule/Watering.

6. Artwork Wall
Summary - We want to give students a haven to express their creativity/thoughts through
drawing. We spoke to the librarian, and she would be willing to have a bulletin board of
student artwork that could be maintained by Seniors.
Steps in Place - Obtain a bulletin board, put information in the weekly bulletin about
how to submit a piece of artwork for said wall.
7. Senior Picture Day (October 19th)
Summary - L
ast year, we experienced difficulties during Senior Picture Day. To avoid
that this year, we are going to make a video involving the dos and donts of Senior
Picture Day. Can be put on school website/used for future classes.
Steps in Place - SGO will meet up after school and make the video.
8. Mascot
Summary - D
uring one day of Spirit Week, we could have a suggest box in the lobby.
This would ask, What do YOU think the school mascot should be? SGO will look
through suggestions, and try to find the best one that connects to the dual-mission of the
school. From that point on, we would conduct multiple polls of the students (via
pupilpath possibly) and of parents & alumni if necessary.
Additional Concerns/Ideas:
1. New Recording Studio Ideas (Preview for Entire-SGO Meeting)
2. Emails
Summary - S
tudents are for making the student emails open to sending/receiving emails
from non-LaGuardia emails (?)
We look forward to meeting with you tomorrow.
Thank you!
