My Character
Character can be defined as the actions, and tendencies which set apart one person from
another. Character is a trait that is desired by many, however not all obtain it. Those with
character are respected and admired among their peers. They do not go out seeking the respect of
others, rather, they earn respect through their actions. A person of character demonstrates
morality, and the ability to control undesirable feelings. They assist those in need, and display
and strong leadership qualities. However, character is not all hereditary. It is acquired through
countless selfish actions, and hours of strengthening the individuals character. Dedication and
sacrifice are required to grow one's character. Society needs more people of great character.
Similarly, the National Honors Society needs individuals who display this strong trait. Similarly,
their are certain individuals who can fulfill this need.
I believe I am a strong candidate for membership in the Nipmuc National Honors Society,
and I would love he opportunity to be a part of the program. This can best be scene through my
involvement in extracurricular activities throughout the school, my dedication in the classroom,
and and my ability to lead and connect to my peers.
Perhaps the strongest reason why I inducted into the National Honors Society is because
of my involvement in Nipmuc athletics, and my knowledge of being a member of a team. I am
currently on the varsity golf, basketball and baseball teams for our school. Recently this past fall
our golf team one the DVC and District championship for back to back years, and I was awarded
Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-Star, in which they recognize the top fall athletes for each

sport. This gave me great experience of what it's like to be part of a successful team. Golf was
not the only successful team I have been a part of. The basketball team for the school started the
year 6-0, which no team has done for 10 years at Nipmuc. I was part of the starting five for the
beginning of the season, and am now currently the 6th man. My dedication and countless hours
in the gym have given me great practice for being a strong team member. Also, the JV, baseball
team I was a part of freshman year went 17-0, and was one of the most successful JV baseball
teams ever for Nipmuc. All of these wonderful sports teams I have been on has allowed me to
grow many skills, such as collaboration, bonding, perseverance and dedication.
Not only do I display dedication on the field/court, but in the classroom as well. I have
received High Honors 7 out of 9 terms here at Nipmuc. I am also in the top 25 for GPA in my
class. I enjoy challenging myself as well. This year I am currently taking three advanced
placement courses including APUSH, AP Lang, and AP Physics. These challenging courses have
taught me discipline and the ability to work productively. I have learned that in order to be
successful, effort and application is required.
I considered myself a strong leader as well. Every day 7, I go to a leadership lunch
with Mr. Schimdt, and captains of other sports. During this lunch we discuss what it takes to be a
successful leader on and off the field. This has given me an opportunity to grow my knowledge
and become a stronger role model. Outside of school, I have run sports camps for younger kids
wanting to practice the sport they love. During the summer, I helped out for the basketball camp
for middle schoolers and I was able to teach and help them. Also, at my local golf course named
Highfields in Grafton, I help kids practice their chipping during the kids league. All these events
taught me to be a leader. It also grew my character as well, and helped me gain the respect and
admiration of peers. Perhaps my character could greatly contribute to NHS. Please consider my
application for the Nipmuc National Honors Society.
