I.) WORLD, GEOGRAPHY

CONTINENTS
UBLICA (pcs home continent)
The home continent on which the three guilds operate. It has a wide range of biomes, including heavily
mountainous areas to the west and east, and heavily forested areas throughout. Generally well settled.
Most of the action so far has taken place on the southern end of the continent, relatively close to where
the River Kotis empties into the Southern Ocean.
CITIES, TOWNS, SETTLEMENTS
Baline (Bay-Leen) City situated at mouth of the River Kotis. Which is a large trading
mecca. Ocean is to the east, river intersects the city northwise. Docks are a suspicious
hive of scum and villainy. Current city is built over an old city which is a warren of pipes,
pumps, and ductwork to keep floodwaters at bay. Previously, the city had been
destroyed in a flood of magical origin.
Falast - City which is inland and surrounded by craggy mountains. Mining and
subsistence farming. Train route runs to Falast from Baline. Mountains harbor lizardfolk.
Currently under martial law due to undead scourge.
Gungadoor: Dwarven port city known for its quality products, nestles in the mountains
and cliffs to the east of Baline. Referred to as the City of Soot or the City of
Chimneys depending on how the person feels about it.
Cobblestop: Trade stop, run by duke, water temple located under city.
UshDavek Necropolis: Dizzying city of art, wrought of obsidian and silver. located in a
desert crater, 6 days west of Falast. Home of guild Florin.
Simones Rest - Unexplored riverside town to the north of Falast, neighboring the
former Mulberry Estate
Giants Landing (Formerly the town of Fairwater) - Lakeside town just north of the
borders of Palantines influence. Through subterfuge, rights have been secured to
rebuild after the destruction caused by Bjorn and Ivars cloud palace fell on it. Currently
occupied by Aultus, Jacks dim friend, and Bjorn, the Chaotic Good giant who is helping
rebuild.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Gizzards Hideout - Located in the Falast mountains.
The Mulberry Estate (destroyed) - Built on top of a chaos sanctuary, small village
adjacent
The Sky Palace of Bjorn and Ivar - Cloud city, baby. Recently relocated. Collapsed and
fell from the sky when the brothers fought.

Former Town of Fairwater (The Crater of Bjorn & Ivar) - Jacks home town, now
tongue-in-cheek called Giants Landing. As one of two survivors, Jack is the self
proclaimed mayor
The Neverwood - A dense forest with some foul presence in it. Home to HobgoblinHood
and his Merry Mermen
Anaxus Tower - Deep within the substrata of Baline is a tower of the slumbering
Demilich.

UKOR
The relatively unexplored (narratively at least) northern continent. Separated from PCs home continent
by a narrow sea.
CITIES
No Known/Explored Settlements
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Flesh Wastes: U
nexplored area within the Northern Continent.

II.) ESTABLISHED GUILDS, POLITICAL FACTIONS

RULING POLITICAL BODY OF THE REGION
HAMMERS MERCY
Lawful Neutral Militarized arm of the Ublica state church of Cuthbert. Focuses on maintaining trade network within
human-settled lands, combating extradimensional/undead incursions, and civilizing wilderness. Mercies, as they are
known, are one-man wrecking crews, expected to be utterly self sufficient and able to both contribute to the
continuation of civilization both in creative and destructive capacities hundreds of miles from anywhere that could be
considered civilization.
Mercies are headquartered in Fortress-Cathedrals dubbed Redoubts far into the frontier wilderness. Each redoubt
is headed by a seer, called a Strength who communes directly with Cuthbert and receives orders from their god.
While they are an aspect of the political body of Ublica, they are not yoked to the state.
The ruling entity of the Mercies is referred to as The Cudgel of The Faith. The current Cudgel is Ra Vikrudz, the
one-hundred and thirteenth Cudgel of the Faith. All guilds throughout Ublica exist at the pleasure of Hammers
Mercy, who have granted charters for these paramilitary entities.
Their Military Sigil:

Known Officers and Members :

Quinn Terebort
Currently Ambassador to Baline
Simone Criean
Captain Governor (former)
Attempted to takeover Baline. Whereabouts unknown

The City of Baline (Home City) :

Baline is a kind of merchant republic. The citizens of the city vote to elect a ruling council every 3 years.
This council of 10 people makes the laws and uses the City Watch to enforce them. The council has a
Primus who is ostensibly in charge of the council and the ruler of the city, however lacks true power.
The Primus is elected by the rest of the council members and each member of the council may only be
Primus for 1 year. While the Primus is the face of the city while in office they only rule through the
consensus of the rest of the council members who vote on all major issues and laws. A primuss only
true power is the Veto they can maintain on all changes to law during their tenure.
Peace is maintained by the City Watch backed by The Order of Hammers Mercy. The order helps
maintain the watch and keeps order outside the city. While the city is theoretically a free zone outside of
The Orders control the city watch gives them influence within the city.
The city council and watch while ostensibly ruling the city cannot actually contend with the wishes of the
5 major wizards. Large scale change and invasions are discouraged by the Wizards in their towers.
The wizards are too focused on their arcane research and higher order interests to actually bother with
ruling the city, however fear of their power is what keeps the city autonomous. Rumors of a council of
Wizards of some kind exists but have never been truly confirmed.

Current Primus :

Cereitel Zink
Samuel Verdiant (dead)

Council Members (9) (Known Members)

Meana Ferito

Popoff Illetor
Julian Reater

GUILD PALANTINE (pcs guild)

A guild dedicated to doing good, helping folk. Lawful Good. Headquartered in Baline.
Sponsored in part by powerful patrons, including the likes of cloud giants. The council is run by
two groups: Guild Administrators who run the day to day and Guild Elders who are mighty
heroes who deal with the big shit and make tough choices. New members start out as guild
initiates and can move up the ranks. These branches of service include:
Paramilitary Guardian Force - Supplemental to existing Baline town watch. Ranks now
bolstered by Lady Lilandras forces.
Rangers - special ops operatives who go far afield to deal with threats (our PCs)
Guild headquarters is a large keep in the center of Baline. Upon cursory examination, the
five-sided fort that houses the guild appears older than the city itself. Beneath the guild
headquarters is a large labyrinth of unknown depth and purpose but filled with ancient and
dangerous magic.
Guild Palantine, and all other guilds, exist at the pleasure of the Mercies, who offer
charter for such entities to exist. These charters come with obligations.
Our Guild Sigil:

GUILD PATRONS
Lady Lilandra- mysterious owner of the high tower near the docks and Point of Arcane
Mastery. Magical-Overlord-Guild-Palantine-Patron
Bjorn the Brave - Good cloud-giant, Guild Palantine Patron. Before his chaotic
shenanigans breaking the signed truce in order to exact revenge for his brothers death,
Bjorn officially renounced his position as a guild patron. Through deft convincing by
Upgraydd, he has begun working quietly to help the guild again. Though he doesnt have
his fortune or his cloud palace anymore, he can still be of help. He is currently working
with Aultus to rebuild the city that was destroyed by the fall of his palace.
GUILD ELDERS
Balthazar- Warforged paladin healer and artificer - Palatine Guild Elder

Sage - Gnome wizard/warlock/sorcerer - Palantine Guild Elder. Currently deciphering a

mysterious document obtained within Anaxus Tomb.

GUILD ADMINISTRATORS/DISPATCHERS
Alabaster Swann - Albino elf admin character of Palatine
Mr. Thomas Jefferson - Human. Former guild dispatcher, now working as a ranger.
Tall, rugged, heavily armored and armed. Wears a powdered wig.
Magna Hightower - Human. Former guild dispatcher, now working as a guild ranger.
Camden - Lady Lilandras Majordomo and project manager on-site.
OTHER GUILD MEMBERS/GUILD ADJACENT
Percy - Tavern Keeper for Guild Palantines on-site lodgings and bar. 30-60, bald,
chubby. Painter.

doppleganger agent running intelligence gathering missions through Palantines tavern.
Sabin (Say-bin) - Halfling Cockney British Poison-master. Freelance vendor who
passes through Guild Palantine
Burnie Cinders - 99% of the magma belongs to 1% of volcanos. Works in the
time-magic research facility
Cottin Yeung - Old man of the guild. Not high level but been around to see everything.
Hangs out with two other old timers, billy and bobby.
Churry (Churro) - 17 year old human, assigned to your ranger squad as helper,
secretary. Currently in possession of 1,200 of Upgraydds gold, searching for items to
help him do his stealthy job better.
Pilly Pot - Old beholder kept under the guild as a kind of pet / mascot. Also somehow
tied into the magic of the keep itself.
Lady Lilandras Vat Soldiers - Birthed from vats to act as loyal guards and foot soldiers
for the guild. They are described as Similar to an elf, but with deep blue skin. Their eyes
are completely black, but dont strike you as evil, just intelligent. Their faces extends into
a short panther-like muzzle. They have a high forehead and long black hair is worn
loosely down over their shoulders. On their neck you see indications of gills.

GUILD FLORIN
Lawful Evil guild, Palantine competitor (operatives known to wear amulets that immolate the bearer
upon their death). Operates in the West out of the UshDavek Necropolis, a six-day journey through the
desert and mountains from Baline
Their Guild Sigil:

GUILD PATRONS
Ithraxias the Shadow Dragon (dead) - A
young red shadow dragon who was
providing magical means for Florin to travel by portal through the shadowfell, conferring
them the ability to stealthily and safely travel great distances. Party killed him at Ivars
memorial, having as of yet unexplored consequences to Florins tactical advantages.
Confirmed Dead. Made reference to his mother who moved to the shadowfell before he
was born.
Ivar the Honorable (dead) - Evil cloud-giant, Guild Florin Patron. Confirmed Dead.
Apparently the bridge between giants and dragons. Without him, Dragon/Giant relations
(formerly embroiled in an ancient war) may have taken a turn for the worse.

GUILD ELDERS
Shroud - A black marble warforged that resembles an inverse of Beacon. Nothing
known other than having incredibly neat handwriting, and that he commands squads of
black knights on Florins behalf. He doesnt like Angus since he took his guild
teleport/immolation badge.
The Insidious Miasma (Tim) - Unspeakable sentient void that issues edicts and
directives to Florin guild members
GUILD ADMINISTRATORS
Stygian Raven - Drow, Florin admin, Swanns half-brother
OTHER GUILD MEMBERS/GUILD ADJACENT
Metallica - piece of shit freshman orc, Florin library. Aw, no, hes ok. Just confused
now.
UshDavek - Dread wizard of ancient times who destroyed Old Baline. Now is interred in
an impenetrable stasis box within the UshDavek Necropolis, his consciousness bound
across multiple realities. However, the creatures mere existence is enough to bend the
minds of those weak-willed enough.

GUILD ATAXIA
Chaotic Neutral(?) guild. Powerful group of political anarchists. Now presumed to employ
doppelgangers. Structure and organization unknown.
Their Guild Sigil:

GUILD ASSOCIATES
The Monstrosity Formerly Known as Silver Grayhawk - Gray-skinned Moon elf, Swanns
half-brother. Ataxia admin, SHOT THROUGH THE FACE, UPGRAYEDDS TO BLAAAAME.
Recently confirmed to be alive. Lady Lilandra healed him and transformed him somehow.

The Woman in Gray - Beautiful woman (possibly a shared doppleganger face?) who seems to
have eyes for Upgraydd. Apparently responsible for luring Jack out of town before the palace
fell on it.

III.) OTHER CHARACTERS OR FACTIONS

King Gizzard the Wizard Lizard and his Scaley Men
A group made up primarily of lizard men, led by Gizzard, who seems to have at one time had
association with Guild Florin
Their Sigil
A scaled, clawed hand holding a goblet.

KNOWN ASSOCIATES
King Gizzard, the Lizard Wizard - Known terrorist, Lizard. Slain in his keep.
King Gizzards group - Motives Unknown. They wear haphazard gear, blood-red cloaks.

The Five Points of Arcane Mastery

Five powerful wizards who control Baline in one way or another. They each are aligned to one school of
arcane magic.
TRANSMUTATION MAGIC (confirmed) - Lady Lilandra - spells change the properties
of a creature, object, or environment. They might turn an enemy into a harmless
creature, bolster the strength of an ally, make an object move at the casters command,
or enhance a creatures innate healing abilities to rapidly recover from injury.
CONJURATION MAGIC (confirmed) - W
izard Cambises - C
onjuration spells involve
the transportation of objects and creatures from one location to another. Some spells
summon creatures or objects to the casters side, whereas others allow the caster to
teleport to another location. Some conjurations create objects or effects out of nothing.

ABJURATION MAGIC (possible) - Abjuration spells are protective in nature, though

some of them have aggressive uses. They create magical barriers, negate harmful
effects, harm trespassers, or banish creatures to other planes of existence.

DIVINATION MAGIC (possible) - Divination spells reveal information, whether in the

form of secrets long forgotten, glimpses of the future, the locations of hidden things, the
truth behind illusions, or visions of distant people or places.
ENCHANTMENT MAGIC (possible) - Enchantment spells affect the minds of others,
influencing or controlling their behavior. Such spells can make enemies see the caster
as a friend, force creatures to take a course of action, or even control another creature
like a puppet.
EVOCATION MAGIC (possible) - Evocation spells manipulate magical energy to
produce a desired effect. Some call up blasts of fire or lightning. Others channel positive
energy to heal wounds.
ILLUSION MAGIC (possible) - Illusion spells deceive the senses or minds of others.
They cause people to see things that are not there, to miss things that are there, to hear
phantom noises, or to remember things that never happened. Some illusions create
phantom images that any creature can see, but the most insidious illusions plant an
image directly in the mind of a creature.
NECROMANCY MAGIC (possible) - Necromancy spells manipulate the energies of life
and death. Such spells can grant an extra reserve of life force, drain the life energy from
another creature, create the undead, or even bring the dead back to life.
Anaxus - Artificier/Illusionist. Formerly of the 5 points, but removed due to lack of
attendance. Tower remains underneath Baline, within the warrens.

Hobgoblinhood and his Mermy-men

Working out of the Neverwood, Hobgoblinhood seems generally confused about his mission statement,
but it definitely involves robbing some people, giving to other people, and occasionally watering his
flopping, floundering mermen.

The Peoples Council

This appears to be some kind of shadow council with communist-like tendencies who want to
turn Baline into a more egalitarian society D
iego Fitzleeter i s the only leader that you know. You dont
have a sense of how large or powerful the group actually is but its clearly in possession of some
resources and skills. Its also clear that they maintain a low profile by appearing as servants and other
common folk.

Unaligned Groups or Characters

Aultus - Jacks dim friend, the Unter-mayor, one of the last living citizens of Fairwater/Giants
Landing, tasked by Jack with overseeing the towns recovery.
Dixon - Drow wizard whos currently pursuing the Origin of Magic for his thesis paper for the College of
Mages. Not an evil dude, but shifty.

IV.) RELIGION
EXISTING GODS/DEMIGODS
Ao - Maker God--the God Father, one might say.
Bacchus - Angus worships Bacchus, god of wine and drinking and partying.
Anaxus - Demilich who lives in a state of perpetual extradimensional dreaming beneath Baline.
Undisturbed for centuries.
Malar- The evil god of predators and the hunt that Akhanna worships.

ELDER ONES
Elder God of Hunger - Beneath the former Mulberry Estate, sleeping, encaged by silverite
which seems to inhibit and contain him.
Whatever unholy thing crawled out of the bone-gate in the docks. From the plane of
hunger. (Jack in possession of two soul stones made for storing and implanting these).

V.) TECHNOLOGY
Metallurgical fabrication technology - Creation of train cars, railroad, guns.
Magic Airship - Palantines ship is the Silverwind - Somehow tied to the wordless golem who seems
to be part of the ship. Detecting magic on the ship leads to irregular results.
Ball of Holding - Fuckin Pokeballs can temporarily house a willing creature with low INT,
extra-dimensionally shrunk down as though placed in a Bag of Holding.
Chronomancy - Fuck you, causality.
Void Bombs - Big Bada Boom. (Stats for bombs taken from DMG, stats can be altered to fit intent)

Firearms - Muskets and pistols (DM guide 267, 268)

VI.) WORLD MAGIC

Other Planes Exist - Including horror-planes like the plane of hunger.
Mind control while asleep - how?

VII.) IMPORTANT WORLD ARTIFACTS

All the crazy shit in Palantines Indiana-Jones-Warehouse-Style basement
Magical (cursed?) Armor
Magical (cursed?) Sword
Other Stuff I Forgot
Party now possesses a powerful Rune Pebble. Partially damaged, but still potent enough to
have many potential life-changing benefits for the guild.

VIII.) PCs SUBPLOTS, ONGOING PERSONAL QUESTS

Beacon (MIA)
Lawful Good
Beacon is a warforged that was buried for over a thousand years. As far as we can tell, he
worships The Light itself rather than a god of that domain. An impurity in the materials, magic, or
mechanics of his body had to be cleansed in a quest to the Neverwood, a place cursed with
unnatural darkness. His mechanical body is built to control, direct, summon, and channel light.
The more combat experience he gets, the more he unlocks his own potential and connection to
the light. Presently in the maintenance bay.

Upgraydd
Chaotic Neutral
Upgraydd has shell shock (PTSD) from his war (details unclear), and explosions used to send
him into a catatonic state. At least one of his old war buddies has turned up (and gotten killed).
After facing some of his inner demons, he is doing better re: freezing up. Really, really, really
likes poison and shooting things that are far away.

Akhanna Nightfang
Chaotic Good
Akhannas village kicked her out so she is wandering, hunting, and growing stronger. She has
three obsessions:
1. She has vowed to return to her village, Grongalgetch (giant for place to get out of the
rain), and slay the ruling council that exiled her. Once she has consumed their hearts,
she plans to take her place on and rebuild the council.
2. To hunt and single-handedly kill a displacer beast in order to make it into a cloak and
prove her hunting prowess. She has at least once fought such a beast mano-a-mano,
though she had to flee after it got the upper hand. The beast, (she calls it Rekatesh)
however, has a taste for her blood and is ostensibly hunting her through the world now
too.
3. To reunite with Diantha, her lost lover, the discovery of whom caused Akhanna to be
exiled in the first place. Diantha remains in Grongalgetch.

Jack
Chaotic Good
Aliases: Jumpin Jack, Little Jack (in orc towns), Big Jack (in halfling towns), Jack-of-all-Trades,

Handsome Jack, et al. Jacks home village was crushed by the collapse of Bjorn and Ivars
Cloud Palace. To Jacks knowledge, one he and his dimwitted friend Altus survived. Jack has a
few obsessions:
1. He claims to be mayor of the rubble of Fairwater/the Giants Cloud Palace, and has
sworn to rebuild the destroyed town, and is voraciously saving money to send home to
Aultus to rebuild.
2. He serves Palantine because he believes in their cause fighting evil and keeping peace
in order to avoid instances like what took his family and friends from him.
3. Perfect his bardic craft, go on tour, get groupies and money.

Col. Angus Mulberry

Neutral Good
After losing his ancestral home (which he had recently rebuilt) he has gone on sabbatical,
aiding Guild Palantine. He is realizing a couple things about himself:
1. When he is not drinking and partying, he goes to very dark places.
2. His ancestors cannibalism marked him deeply, and he now yearns to redeem the
Family Recipe by finding the original 11 herbs and spices and substituting the human
flesh for chicken.
3. A haunting tune in his head, somehow related to the second point, has prompted him to
explore bardic magics, perhaps somehow integral to his recipe quest.
4. He pretends he doesnt care that everyone else has a guild cloak, but he sure as shit
does. (Akhanna gifted him her cloak in appreciation for his ongoing role as defender)

Barry
Chaotic Neutral
Escentric ranger who seems to have stumbled into a position as a Palantine Ranger. Clues
indicate that he was a highwayman who worked with Hobgoblinhood before his Mermy men and killed
the previous owner of the Ranger cloak he now wears. When brought onto the team it seems he
shrugged and agreed. He has a deep connection with animals, particularly Cleric, his newfound horse.
