AUTHOR GUIDELINES
Submissions:
We strongly encourage that manuscripts be submitted to ilrev.ui.ac.id. Authors are
required to create an account and submit the manuscripts online. For submission
inquiries, please address to ilrev@ui.ac.id.
Contributors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any materials,
including photographs and illustrations, for which they do not hold copyright and for
ensuring that the appropriate acknowledgements are included in the manuscript.

All contributions in the periodical are peer-reviewed:


Authors will be asked, upon acceptance of a manuscript, to transfer copyright of the
manuscript to the Publisher. This will ensure the widest possible dissemination of
information under copyright laws.
It is the responsibility of the author to obtain written permission for a quotation from
unpublished material, or for all quotations in excess of 250 words in one extract or 500
words in total from any work still in copyright, and for the reprinting of figures, tables or
poems from unpublished or copyrighted material.
Manuscript preparation:

1. Manuscripts should be written in English, not have been published already, nor
under consideration elsewhere. Manuscript submitted in Bahasa Indonesia will be
taken into consideration for translation assistance based on the quality of the
topic/substance.

2. Any manuscripts containing material subject to copyright restrictions other than


those owned or controlled by the contributor must be accompanied by
appropriate permissions from the relevant copyright holder(s).

3. Each manuscript should be accompanied by the following information:


a. the title of the manuscript.

b. the authors name, affiliation and institutional address, together with an email address.
4. Manuscripts should be between 5.000 and 10.000 words, including text and
footnotes.
a. Abstract
i.

Abstract should be provided both in Bahasa Indonesia and in


English. Abstract from foreign authors will be translated to Bahasa
Indonesia.

ii.

Font: Times New Roman, font size: 10, font style: italic, alignment:
justified.

iii.

Single line spacing on one paragraph.

iv.

Left indent should be 2,54 cm.

v.

150-250 words.

b. Keywords
i.

Font: Times New Roman, font size: 10, font style: italic, alignment:
justified.

ii.

The word Keywords in bold and italic (e.g. Keywords:).

iii.

5-10 words in lowercase.

c. Body
i.

Font type: Times New Roman, font size: 12, line spacing: 1.

ii.

Write full name of the author without any qualifications.


Qualifications of the author should be explained in the footnote
e.g: Melda Kamil Ariadno 1
(1 Lecturer of international Law, Faculty of Law, University of
Indonesia. Obtained Bachelor of Law (S.H.) from University of
Indonesia (1992), Master of Law (LL.M.) from University of
Washington (1995), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from
University of Washington (2011)).

iii.

Author name should be written in small caps, starting with capital


letters, and in bold. (e.g., Melda Kamil Ariadno).

iv.

headings and sub-headings should be numbered by:


a. ) First level: Roman numerals in uppercase (I, II, III, ...);
b. ) Second level: alphabets in uppercase (A, B, C, ...);

c. ) Third level: Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, ...);


d. ) Fourth level: alphabet in lowercase (a, b, c, ...);
e. ) Fifth level: Roman numerals in lowercase (i, ii, iii, ...);
v.

First line of each paragraph should be indented, with single space


between paragraphs.

vi.

The first heading should be titled Introduction and the last


heading should be titled Conclusion.

Direct quotations:
a. ) For direct quotation less than 20 words, it should be placed
within the paragraph with quotation marks (........).
b. ) For direct quotation contain more than 20 words, it should
be in a separate paragraph with left indentation of 1,27 cm,
justified, in italic and use single line spacing.

Tables should be presented on same sheets of the manuscript and


should have short descriptive titles. Figures should be clearly
numbered, source and should have explanatory captions. The
author must indicate where Tables and Figures should be placed in
the text.
Footnotes and Bibliography
Footnotes:
a. Footnotes should be used rather than end notes.
b. Footnotes should be written in Times New Roman size 10
with single spacing and indent on the first line of each note.
c. Each time a case is referred to in the text, the case report
reference should be set out in a footnote. One report
reference is sufficient.

Bibliography:
d. The bibliography should be written in the end of the
manuscripts, titled Bibliography, written in Times New
Roman 12, single spacing and indent on the second line of
each bibliography
e. If the sources are varied, it should be put into groups:
a. ) Legal documents
b. ) Books

c. ) Articles
d. ) Websites
Arranged in alphabetical order

SUBMISSION PREPARATION CHECKLIST


As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's
compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors
that do not adhere to these guidelines.
1. The submission has not been previously published, nor it is before another journal
for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the
Editor).
2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice file format.
3. Where available, URLs or DOIs for the references have been provided.

Author Guidelines
BRAWIJAYA LAW JOURNAL, Journal of Legal Studies, is the normal channel for publication of
papers in all field of law, which include civil law, criminal law, administration law, constitutional law as
well as international law. Manuscripts of articles reporting research, contemporary comments as well
as book reviews will be accepted for review as papers. Articles should be 5,000 - 10,000 words,
Contemporary Comments or note 2,000 words - 3,000 words, and Book Reviews 500 - 1,000 words.
Submissions should not be under consideration elsewhere at the time of submission.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES
An acceptable manuscript will meet the following general criteria : it reports a worthwhile contribution
to legal studies, sound methodology was used and is explained with sufficient detail so that other
researchers can conduct further studies, conclusions are supported by well-analysed legal arguments,
manuscripts is concise, well written, and understandable.

MANUSCRIPT FORMAT
Manuscript should given in soft copy and arranged in Brawijaya Law Journal standard format, Title,
Authors, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Result and Discussion, Conclusion
and Suggestion, Acknowledgment and References. Typed at one side of white paper of A4 size, in
single column, double space, 12 point times news roman font and should given line numbers.

MANUSCRIPT TITLE AND ABSTRACT


Title, consist of not more than 20 words. It should be written clearly and concisely describing the
contents of the research as well as the idea of the nature of the work. Under the title of the article only
the names of the authors should appear. Any further information, such as qualifications, present
appointments, postal and email addresses should be given as a footnote on the first page. All article
submissions should also include an Abstract of no more than 150 words. An Abstract is not required
for Comments and Book Reviews.

INTRODUCTION
Presented briefly and clearly information concerning background, aim and purpose of the research.

LEGAL MATERIALS AND METHODS


It should mention time and place of the research (if applicable) and the focus of the research in first
part. All legal materials, supporting documents and methods must be stated clearly and briefly.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION


Result and discussion be written in same part. They should be presented continuously start from main
result until supporting results and equipped with a discussion.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION


Conclusion should be explained clearly. Suggestion placed after conclusion contains a
recommendation on the research.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
State the grant source and the person to whom the grant was given. Name the person to help you
work.

REFERENCE
References should follow the Australian Guide to Legal Citation (AGLC). All references to books,
articles and other sources are to be identified at an appropriate point in the text by a footnote, which
will correspond to the relevant footnote at the bottom of the page. The information to be included
within the footnote is as detailed in the AGLC guidelines. The Guide may be viewed and
downloaded here. It is the author's responsibility to ensure the style of the submission accords with
the current version of the Australian Guide to Legal Citation, and manuscripts will be returned to
authors for editing if they do not meet the style guidelines.

ABBREVIATION

Uncommon abbreviations should be explained, with the name in full in the first instance, followed by
the abbreviation in brackets. The abbreviation may then be adopted. Full stops should not be used in
abbreviations or contractions. When citing a reference for the purposes of comparison, the journal
uses see also.

DIRECT QUOTATION
As a general rule, direct quotations of three lines or less are embedded within the text in quotation
marks. The reference to the author, date and page number appears in the footnote, which appears
after the full stop or any other punctuation. A quotation of more than three lines appears as an
indented paragraph, and is reduced to font size 10. Similarly, the reference to the author, date and
page number appears in the relevant footnote at the bottom of the page.

QUOTATION MARKS
In using quotation marks, single quotation marks should be used as first preference. Where a second
quote is referred to within the first quote, double quotation marks should indicate this. For example:

REVIEW PROCESS
Articles are assessed by the Journal editorsin determining whether the article meet journal guidelines.
Article which meet all the requirement will be assigned to reviewer to be reviewed through a doubleblind peer-review process by two referees with relevant expertise in the field. Authors will be informed
of the progress of their submission as necessary. Submission should be done through the on-line
submission provided by this on-line journal system.
