9HAVING EXAMINED that although some have argued that there has been a slowdown
10in rising global temperatures, several recent studies have disproved this slowdown and
11say that average temperatures could increase by up to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next
12100 years.
13NOTING that several side effects of global warming are deadly heat waves, droughts,
14flooding, coastal erosion, rising sea levels, and extinctions of plants and animals,
15RECOGNIZING that rising temperatures
16glaciers and ice sheets melt,
19EMPHASIZING the countries most vulnerable to global warmings most serious side
20effects are among the poorest and least able to pay for the medical and social services and
21technological solutions that will be needed to adapt to climate change.
22ALARMED BY the crops, natural vegetation, and animals (including seafood) that
23sustain people maybe unable to adapt to local or regional changes in climate; ranges of
24diseases and insect pests that are limited by temperature may expand. All life on Earth
25will eventually die.
26CALLS UPON the countries of the world to begin a two-tier approach to avoid or limit
27some of the worst effects of climate change causing global warming, mitigation and
