REFLECTION

1.
What were at least two of the biggest problems you encountered
during the Internship experience?
A problem that came across right away was the shyness. I was super shy at
first only because i did not want to do the wrong thing or say the wrong
things. Another problem was the communication factor. When I was late
because of morning practices I would be forgetful and not let my mentor
know where I am at.
2.
What did you learn from the experience of working with other
people?
I learned that who you know will make your job fun and easy.
3.
What personal satisfaction was gained from the Internship
experience?
The fact that I was able to meet new people and become close with them. I
am also satisfied with the fact that I may have found a new career path.
4.
Briefly describe the risk you took in completing this Internship.
Include what you consider to be the stretch in this Internship for you.
The risk I took was taking it upon myself to call and set up intern days with
other people. It was a stretch for me to leave my comfort zone and
contact the people.
5.
How were your original plans for the Internship the same or
different from the final outcome of your experience? Did this affirm your
career choice or cause you to reconsider?
My plans were very different. I was planning to do a bunch of ride alongs with
the CO in Morrison County. My plans changed when I was introduced to
fighting wildfires or being on prescribed burns. My choices have also changed
from becoming a CO to becoming a hotshot.
6.
Do you feel you were able to meet your Training Plan goals and
objectives? If not, what were the obstacles?
I felt that I had the opportunity to go above and beyond my training goals. I
felt I got more then I was intended of receiving.
7.
How did this internship change and/or reinforce your views and
assumptions about the profession?

This course made me realize that there is more to Natural Resources than
most people nowdays even know about.
8.
What did the program teach you about yourself?
This program taught me that if I think I am not doing my best that in reality I
am doing great. I was told multiple times by multiple people that I am a
great, hard working young man. This is a confidence booster that is much
needed for me.
9.
What would you do differently now that you have finished your
internship experience?
I would not do anything differently. If anything I would take it over or do it all
year long.
10. Tell us what method you used to thank your mentor.
I told them thank you in person and also sent them thank you letters.
11.
What ways could you have been better prepared by the program
coordinators in feeling able to perform what was expected of you? What
suggestions do you have to improve the seminar (classroom) portion of
this experience?
I feel I would have been better prepared if I knew what to do after interviews.
I did not know that you need to send thank you letters after the interview.
12. In what ways other ways could you have been assisted by your
mentor in growing in your skill set or best performing in your internship?
What suggestions do you have to improve the worksite portion of this
experience?
I feel that maybe if they know what the criteria for the interns was in regards
to taking photos or informational interviews stuff like that.
13. In what ways did your education thus far prepare you for what
was asked of you on the job? In what ways was it found lacking? What
skills or classes, if any, do you feel would be helpful to others considering
a career in this field (existing classes or ones youd like to see created)?
The knowledge I have about natural resources because of the classes I have
taken have shown other that I have a great understanding of it. The skills I
lacked were mechanic skills or even a little bit of wood working skills.
14. What grade would you give yourself for the program (separate
the work from the seminar component and assess your grade for both)?
Give your justification.
I feel I did the best out in the field. I would give myself an A. In the seminar
day I feel like I slacked a lot and did not get much accomplished. I would give
myself a B. Overall I would give myself and A- for working hard and trying my
very best each day.
