This dramatic original work in the key of E natural minor is playable by students in their first year and
includes simple rhythms utilizing the whole, half, quarter and eighth note values.

Opening with a pulsing rhythmic pattern in the low strings, it creates a mood of suspense. Violas and
violins enter softly and build in intensity to measure13 where the first melodic theme is stated by the 1st
Violins and moves like a duet with the cello/bass line. This melody is played legato and soars over the
pulsing eighth notes in the 2nd Violin and Viola. A brief contrasting section begins at measure 44
where the tempo slows and the cello/bass switch to pizzicato. The ties over the bar line will require
some solid counting, but the pizzicato will provide the "metronome.

with a number of leading educational music publishers. In 1999 Deborah was named the Utah ASTA with NSOA Elementary Teacher Of The

Year.
