Prologue
I belong to student fraternity. I had decent health and did not have any
mountaineering experience before. I have done some trekking in Uttarakhand
and ran Delhi Half-Marathon that is all, I can say about my physical activities.
Before joining this course, I will recommend you to start running and
pushups from today onwards. It will help a lot because majority of
activities consists of trekking/running and using arms. We trekked
approx 158 KM which was spread over the month.
I have got ‘A’ Grade in the course and will recommend you not to involve in
any fighting or undisciplined activities during the course (this can lead to
disqualification from course). Always follow instructor’s advice and never be
late. These things are also accounted for calculating final grade.
I am writing this document for me and future aspirants of BMC. This will
help you to get glimpse of activities present in the course and prepare
yourself accordingly to get best out of it.

I want to especially thank Mr. Jagat Thakur (our course in charge) who was
always with us to provide his valuable insights and to oversee all the activities.

Daily Account of Basic Mountaineering Course
Day 1:
Then we were asked to collect our equipments from the store. Now there was lecture on
knots where we learned climbing knots. Next day we were called again at 6 AM in the
morning. Our course senior told me to buy canvas shoes of rubber sole as it can offer good
grip while climbing up rocks. I went with him to market and bought a pair for me.
Day 2:
Getting up early, there was a problem of limited number of toilets due to which there was line
and one has to get up even early of others so I decide to wake up at 4:45AM instead of
5:00AM. Morning tea was served at 5:30AM.
It was running today and we ran for 3 Km after which we were being taken to nearby forest where
we did PT for one hour. Believe me this
PT really need hard effort. I took
breakfast and we were called with our
rucksacks. We were given Ditto(mango
juice) and it was 1.5Km walk to training
area. We were given lecture on rock
climbing and about various type of hold.
