The article advanced approach

I.

The indefinite article (a, an):

used to convey the meaning of: one, any, it doesnt matter


which, a certain (referring to a person known only by name)

e.g. A Mr. Brown called to set an appointment.

We use a before nouns starting with a semi-vowel (year, yield,


young, unique, university, universe, etc.)
used to convey the meaning of: the same (in various
expressions)

e.g. We are of an age. (meaning We are of the same age.)


Birds of a feather flock together. (meaning Birds that are the same)
=Cine se aseamana, se aduna.

used in certain expression:

e.g. 20 miles an hour; 3 days a week;

used before nouns denoting a profession, nationality, religion;


however, after the verbs elect, appoint, name, the zero article
is used.
e.g. She is a singer.
He was appointed/elected president.
Used in the expressions: many a/an +singular noun/verb
(very formal, literary way of saying many +plural noun) and a
great many +plural noun (formal way of saying a great
number of +plural noun)
Used after an adjective, if the adjective is preceded by so, as,
too, however, how;
e.g. It was too good a change to be missed.
She is so beautiful an actress, that she got the award.
You will get a 4 today, however smart a student you may
be.
