Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate this great Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord Jesus. It is one of the
remarkable events in the life of Jesus making a revelation about him. This feast celebrates the
manifestation of Jesus as the King of the Jews. God in his wisdom revealed this mystery to the
wise-men, who are pagans; outside the chosen people. Though they are pagans, they recognise a
star as that of the greatest King. The Lord Jesus is indeed a King to rule the world. He was there
from the beginning and will for ever be King.
Kingship is about authority and sovereignty and Jesus is indeed worthy of our worship.
All people shall fall prostrate before you, O Lord, said the Psalmist. The wise-men bowed down
and worshiped Jesus, the new-born King. Let us also worship the Lord Jesus always from the
bottom of our hearts, for he deserves honour.
Apart from bowing down in worship the wise-men offered their gifts of Gold, Myrrh and
Frank incense. These symbolic gifts are meaningful to us also. By giving the Lord our gold means
we are offering the best part of us. Whatever we cherish so much we have to offer to the Lord.
Sometimes, it could be the other side of our lives that we dont want anyone to see and know;
that selfish and lustful desire. Lets give that as our gold to Jesus. Giving him the gold also signifies
his kingship over our lives. Lord, rule my life! Secondly, the wise-men offered Myrrh signifying
his mortal nature, though Christ is God he comes to us in bodily form the incarnation we are
celebrating. Materially, let us offer gifts to Christ through the poor and needy. For he says
whatever we do to the least of our brothers we do it for him. Finally, Jesus was offered incense
signifying his priesthood; the one to sanctify and purify us. We need to try and be like Jesus for he
is holy.
When we are able to worship and offer our gifts, we are also being called always to be the
star to lead people to Christ. Many are searching for meaning in life. Their answer can only be
found in Jesus. Lets try to give Christ to people through our words and deeds done in love. For
life without Christ (Jesus) is crisis.
Next Sunday is Peace Sunday: The message for this day from Pope Francis World
Peace Message 2017 is: "Nonviolence: a Style of Politics for Peace," the Holy Father says,
"When victims of violence are able to resist the temptation to retaliate, they become the most
credible promoters of nonviolent peace making.
To conclude, I sincerely thank each and every one of you for the love and support given me
over the past 8 years I have been coming to the parish. In a special way, I thank Fr. Joe so much
for the fatherly love extended to me with his rich pastoral experience and great sense of humour
which is making impact in my ministry. As I celebrate the 7 th anniversary of my ordination, all
that I can say is that the Lord has been favourable to me and I will for ever remain grateful.
Please, continue to pray for me as I go back to Ghana and continue my pastoral ministry. I will
also continue to remember you any time I raise the cup of salvation. May God bless and keep you
all both now and for ever!
Amen!
