Course Objectives:
This course has been design to impart knowledge of Solar Power Plants Installation and maintenance in Electrical engineering branch. This course will provide
designing of solar roof plants and Solar panel maintenance.
Pre-requisites:
Basic Electrical Engineering, Electrical Machine -I
Course Contents/Syllabus:

Module I: Introduction to Solar Energy and solar Energy applications


Indian energy scenario - Environmental aspects of energy utilization. Renewable energy resources and their importance
- Global solar resources. Introduction to Solar Radiation, solar geometry, structure of sun. Applications of Solar Energy,
Solar Electric power Generation.
Module II: Solar Photo voltaic Cell Energy Collectors
Solar Photo- Voltaic/Solar Cell Principle, construction, Semiconductor Junctions, Conversion efficiency and power
output, Basic Photo Voltaic System for Power Generation, solar panel construction, ratings.
Introduction to Solar Energy Collectors and Storage, classification of Solar Energy Collectors.
Module III: Design of Solar Roof Tower Plant
Design steps, Availability of Area, design calculations, data sheet of proposed solar PV, Characteristic curve of Solar
PV, Physical parameters, setup of panels as per requirements, configuration details, Electrical calculation, DC output
power calculation, annual load curve of the proposed block/building, block wise capacities of solar pv to be installed on
roof top.

Battery maintenance, inspection and cleaning, checking the electrolyte level, checking battery voltage, battery alerts.
Solar panel maintenance, inverter/battery charger and charge controller, wiring and connections, solar system
maintenance schedule, panel maintenance log sheet, battery inspection log sheet.

After completing this Course, Students will be able to:
Understand the Solar Energy source, Construction of solar panels and the solar power generation techniques.
Design a prescribed engineering sub-system.
