SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARS
I.
SAFETY PROGRAM
1. Contractor provides skull guards, raincoats, working shoes and boots to

employees who are assigned to hazardous area.
2. Wires, nails, bolts and other pointed objects should be eradicated in working
areas to avoid possible injuries/accidents.
3. Operator, drivers and other employees who handle equipment must thoroughly
check their equipment, lubricate and handle them properly and should be
cautious, extra careful at all times to avoid accidents while on duty.
4. Employees are advised on the used of cigarettes, candles and other flammable
materials to avoid the occurrence of fire.
5. Seat belts are provided in every truck/vehicle that is used in the project sites.
6. Fire extinguishers are being placed in equipment such as fuel truck.
II.
HEALTH PROGRAM
1.
Upon entrance, employee are automatically become
members of SSS and phil. Health Corporation.
2.
Medicine cabinets which contains over the counter drugs
and other first aid supplies are ready for use in case of sickness or accident occur.
3.
Employees are being lectured once in a while or briefed on
personal hygiene, numbers if children one family would have, to be able to provide
the family needs on food, clothing and shelter.
4.
Strictly no drinking of liquor during working hours to ensure
safety and for health purposes.

Upon receipt of the notice to proceed of perfected contract from the owner, the contract shall
mobilize immediately by constructing and maintaining temporary facilities at the site of work at which he
or his authorized representative shall be present while the work is in progress.
A.1 Construction Safety and Health
Provide and maintain throughout the duration of the contract, a medical room together
with all necessary supplies to be sited in the main area.
There shall be employ permanently on the site a fully trained Medical Aide who shall be
engaged solely from medical duties.
Item 102 Roadway Excavation
This scope of work shall consist of borrow of common earth excavation and shall be in
conformity with the lines grades and dimensions shown on the plans or as established by the
engineer. Rock excavation shall consist igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic rock which cannot
be excavated without blasting or the use of rippers. All excavation shall be finished to reasonably
smooth and uniform surfaces.

This Item shall consist of the necessary excavation for foundation. Prior to starting excavation
operations in any area, all necessary clearing operations in that area shall have been performed.
Structure footings shall be excavated to the lines and grades or elevations shown on the Plans.
Item 104 - Embankment

Excavated areas around structures shall be backfilled with free draining granular material
approved by the Engineer and placed in horizontal layers not over 150 mm (6 inches) in
thickness, to the level of the original ground surface. Each layer shall be moistened or dried as
required and thoroughly compacted.
105-Subgrade Preparation
Preparation of the sub grade for the support of overlying structural layers shall extend to
full width of the roadway
Item 200-Aggregate Sub-Base Course
The existing surface shall be graded and finished. The aggregate sub base material shall
be placed at a uniform mixture on a prepared sub grade in a quantity which will provide the
required compacted thickness.
Item 311-Portland Cement Concrete Pavement
The engineer conforming to the design mix approved by the materials engineer shall
recommend concrete mixture. Cement and aggregates shall be mixed by a motorized concrete
mixer containing 25 liters of water per bag of 40 kg. Portland cement. Placing of concrete mixture
shall be conveyed by GI flume or concrete cart. A concrete vibrator shall be used to let the
concrete mixture settle properly and avoid the appearance of voids. Weakened plane joint shall
be installed at every 4.5 m. Curing shall take place for a period of 72 hours by means of
pounding.
Item 404 Reinforcing Steel Bar

Steel reinforcement shall be stored above the surface of the ground upon platforms,
skids, or other supports and shall be protected as far as practicable from mechanical injury and
surface deterioration caused by exposure to conditions producing rust.

All steel, reinforcement shall be accurately placed in the position shown in the Plans or
required by the Engineer and firmly held there during the placing and setting the concrete.
All steel, reinforcement shall be furnished in the full lengths indicated on the Plans.
Splicing of bars, except where shown on the Plans, will not be permitted without the written
approval of the Engineer.
Item 405 Structural Concrete
Concrete work includes construction of concrete structures complete in accordance with
standard specifications and in conformity with the lines, grades, thickness and typical crosssection shown on the plan. This item consist of providing a structural concrete class A to the
reinforced & formed structural parts such as columns, footings, beams, concrete slabs, wall
footings. It includes the provision of formworks & false works materials properly positioned for
pouring at the required structural parts stated in the plans.
Concrete shall be placed only after all formworks, materials to be embedded, and
preparation of surface involved in the placing have been inspected and approved by the Project
Engineer. Curing shall be started as soon as the surface is sufficiently hard to permit it without
further damage.
Item 500 Pipes Culverts and Storm Drains
This item consist of the construction or reconstruction of pipe culverts and storm drains,
hereinafter referred to as conduit in accordance with this Specification and in conformity with the
lines and grades shown on the Plans as established by the Engineer.
Item 502 Inlets and Catchbasins
This item consist of the construction or reconstruction or adjustmentof manholes, inlets
and catchbasins in accordance with this Specification and in reasonably close conformity with the
lines and grades shown on the Plans as established by the Engineer.
Item 505 Grouted Riprap
Stones shall be place by hand or individually by machines. They shall be laid with its
longest axis perpendicular to the slope in close contact with each adjacent stone. The spaces
between the stones shall then be filled with cement mortar throughout the thickness of the riprap.
Sufficient mortar shall be used to completely fill all voids, except that the face surface of the
stones shall be left exposed.
Item 506 Stone Masonry
This item consist of stone masonry in minor structures, in headwalls for culverts, in
retaining walls at the toes of the slopes, and at other places called for on the Plans, constructed
on the prepared foundation bed, in accordance with this Specification and in conformity with the
lines, grades, sections, and dimensions shown on the Plans or as ordered in writing by the
Engineer.
Item 600 Conc. Curb and Gutter
Forms shall be in place and checked alignment before concrete is placed.
The concrete shall be placed in the forms in layers and to the depth required. It shall be
tamped and spaded until mortar entirely covers the top and surfaces the forms. The top of the
concrete shall be finished to a smooth and the edges rounded to the radii.
Item 603 Metal Guardrails
Post shall be set vertically in the position shown in the Plans and, where embedded in a
concrete foundation block, shall remain undisturbed for a minimum of 48 hours.
Rail elements shall be erected in a manner resulting in a smooth continuous installation.
All bolts, except adjustment bolts, shall be drawn tight. Bolts shall be of sufficient length to extend
beyond the nuts at least 5 mm but not more than 10 mm.

Item 605 Informative Sign

The post shall be erected vertically in position inside the formwork of the foundation block
prior to the placing of the concrete and shall be adequately supported by bracing to prevent
movement of the post during the placing and setting of concrete. The post shall be located at the
positions shown on the plans.
Sign panels shall be installed in accordance with the details shown on the Plans. The
exposed portion of the fastening hardware on the face of the sign shall be painted with enamels
matching the background color.
Item 612 Reflectorized Thermoplastic pavement Markings

The pigment, beads and filler shall be uniformly dispersed in the resin. The materials
shall be free from skins, dirt and foreign objects. The materials shall not exude fumes which are
toxic, obnoxious or injurious to persons or property when heated during application.
Center lines, lane lines and edge lines shall be applied by approved mechanical means
and shall be laid in regular alignment.
SPL 1 Project Billboard
This item consist of providing a standard DPWH layout printed on tarpaulin with wooden
frame to be located at the front of the project site.
