Faceless Criminals
On September 12, 2012, President Benigno Aquino had signed Republic Act No. 10175 otherwise known as the Cybercrime
Prevention Act of 2012. The controversial cybercrime bill before is now enacted into a law. But the big question is how effective
or enforceable the new law will be? Could it penalize the cybercriminals in the boundless world of web?
The Cybercrime Law is not yet effective even though the president had already signed it. The law takes effect 15 days after
its publication in the Official Gazette and in two mass-circulated newspapers. Agencies will be created to carry it out and lay
down implementing rules and regulations in 90 days after its signing by President Aquino.
The Cybercrime law provisions to penalize the internet users who will put offensive statements and imminent threats on the
web. Freewheeling bloggers, commentators, repliers and others who write in the internet that intends to malign other people is
subjected to libel.
According to Article 353 of the Revised Penal Code, the law defines libel as a public and malicious imputation of a crime,
or of a vice of defect, real or imaginary, or any act, omission, condition, status or contempt of a natural or juridical person, or to
blacken the memory of one who is dead. Under Article 354 of the Revised Penal Code, it states that libel can be committed by
means of writing, printing, lithography, engraving, radio, phonograph, painting, theatrical exhibition, cinematographic exhibition
or any similar means.
The term similar means is vague. What does it mean? The law does not directly imply that computer or internet is included
in the means of libel. This law is created a long time ago where computers doesnt already exists. This 80- year old law raises so
much ambiguity. How could the law punish an internet user who committed libel, if the law was not vivid on the constitutions it
has stated? In 1932, where computers are not popular, legislators that time would

I Can be Successful Too!...

(I wish people had more faith in who they are and whats possible for them. Not based on the persons and things around
them, but by realizing that with just a little bit of effort, they really could change everything. )
To be successful, thats what all the people want. Our life starts at the point we were born. We dont get the chance to choose of
the life, family or status we will have. Some were born rich and others were not. I remember one time someone told Hay naku
kung mayaman lang ako, hindi sana ako magpo-problema sa pera. From that I came up with the idea that yes we didnt choose
to be rich or poor but no matter how or what is the economic status were into, achieving goals still depends on the perseverance
of the person. Back in the year 80s, we have this song Annie Batumbakal, a song about a girl.
There is this girl that inspired me to write this article, this girl has a simple life like other people. Genalyn Lecaros is the Annie
Batumbakal of the present time. It was year 2009 when Genalyn entered the complex world of a college. Having a simple life,
things was easy for him at the beginning but a problem always comes unexpectedly. Shes from a simple and less fortunate
family, so releasing money either big or small is not easy for her, especially when she has a school projects. I just kept my mind
together and focused more on achieving my desires. I wanted to loss hope that time but I told myself thats it was all part of
living, and I have to get through of it She said.
Some of the requirements to accomplish task, achieve goals and dreams are strong determination and effort, this girl posses those
positive attitude. In her second year in college things got more serious and difficult for her compare before. Even her study was
been in risky situation before. At age of 17 she started working as a student.
Question & Answer
JL: How did you handle or face the situation of being a working student?
GL: Time management and strong determination. I always budget my time so I could do many things (such as for my study, my
part-time job and other chores) and I put my mind and self on what I am doing to accomplish the things I have to do before the
day ends.

JL: What or who gives you the determination to pursue and do everything you want to do in spite of many hindrances you are
facing?
GL: Firstly, my father and my younger brother and sister. And of course some friends in and out of the school also give me
strength and encourage me as well.
JL: Who influence you the most?
GL: I believe its my father. You see, whenever I see him fishing and sweating because of a hard work I am being inspired.

JL: Give me three (3) words that will describe you?

GL: Hard working, determine and goal oriented. Hard working because I found my own way to earn and gain money by using
my vacant time. I am determined in doing accomplishing my goals, once I set it I make sure I will or I would achieve it.
JL: What are your strength and weaknesses?
GL: Strength and weaknesses? Well, for my strength I am a hard working person and full of determination.
Like other people I also have my weakness that is being a bit of a stubborn child.

JL: What do you want the people know about you?

GL: That I am just a simple person having a simple dream. I want the people understand that I am not wonder woman that could
do everything in just a woooshh, but even though Im trying hard to do things that will make me successful.
Shes a girl that aims for success. A girl that holds onto the courage and determination she has. Other people if in her situation
will probably lose hope and give up easily. Genalyn doesnt have a super power or magic to make things favor to her all the time,
so in spite of the hindrances and impediments the way she still manage to accomplish things, amaze other people and be
successful. She believes that everything can be done with focused and perseverance.

LUZON DATUM: Center Mark

Marinduque is one of the 7,107 islands of the Philippine archipelago with a total land area of 300,000 sq.km. The island province is located some 137 nautical miles from Manila and is accessible by water and air transport.

The province has some other unique features. Other than the Morions, the masked and costumed penitents that drew their inspiration from the Roman soldiers that tortured Jesus Christ before his crucifixion, Marinduque is also home to a musical instrument called "Kalutang". It was made
from two pieces of wood that produce different note ranges depending on its size. A band of 10 to 12 can create music with this instrument. Marinduque also hosts a 1.4-kilometer underground river, popularly known by the local as the Bagumbayan Caves in Sta. Cruz town. The white and
fine sand of its Maniwaya and Tres Reyes Islands matched those of the world famousBoracay Island.

And also the island province prides itself as being the geographic center of the Philippines. Some islands around the province claimed of being the center of the Philippines before. But the claim to be the geographical center of the Philippines has received notice and support from the
National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA). The Luzon Datum of 1911 in Marinduque is used as point number one for all map makers in the county. It is located on the highest hill at the northwest point of Marinduque. It is in a commanding location seing a hundred
miles of the coast of Luzon, much of the north and west coasts of Marinduque, the coast of Mindoro and other islands. The station mark is the center of a hole 1.5 centimeters in diameter and 6 centimeters deep, drilled at the center of a triangle 16 centimeters on a side, cut in a hard rock.
Reference mark is on a hard, white boulder of about one cubic meter in volume, standing 80 centimeters above the ground and 90 cm. higher than the station.

The Luzon Datum National Landmark was unveiled las August 09, 2011 at Hinanggayon, Mogpog, Marnduque. The provincial government of Marinduqu was too proud the claim the recognition as the center of the Philippines.
