Background
An AIESEC Exchange Program is a practical working and learning experience for the Exchange
Participant to develop their competencies of self-awareness and solution-orientation, while
empowering others, in order to become a Global Citizen. A/ESEC's various exchange activities are run
to have an impact on the participants, the AIESEC members, the company/organization, the
communities and the trainee.

The aim of an internship shall be to provide the student with the following:
1. A positive learning experience
2. Interaction with a different social and cultural environment with a view to gaining
intercultural competencies;
3. Development of theoretical and practical leadership skills;
4.

Opportunity to apply personal and professional skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to
work for the organization as well as the host communities;

5.

Develop awareness and knowledge of social issues and different practices of the sending and
hosting country;

6. Opportunity to contribute to personal and professional life goals.

The aim of an internship is not:

2. To provide a holiday
3. To act as a permanent career placement or recruitment opportunity. If the organization
decides to extend the working contract on a permanent basis, AIESEC will have no role in
facilitating this;
4. To provide permanent residence in the hosting country
5. To be an internal AIESEC leadership position.

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the sending Local Committee


a) Organize an interview and ensure that every person participating in an internship passes
through it.
b) Assist in the matching process with a specific opportunity.
c) Inform and advise about other available opportunities, and support the exchange participant
in determining other options.
d) Prepare the exchange participant for the internship experience according to the Exchange
Program Policies (XPP).
e) Advise and assist in acquiring the required documentation and legal papers (e.g. work
permit, visa, residence permit, insurance and other requirements).
f) Maintain communication throughout the duration of the internship.
g) Prepare opportunities for re-integration of the student upon return from his/her internship.
h) Support in communication with all parties of the exchange process.

Responsibilities of the hosting Local Committee


a)

Provide a letter from the company/organization stating the terms of the internship (salary
or compensation, working hours, dates of traineeship, job description).

b) Provide all the necessary information about visa, insurance, work permit and all other legal
requirements.
c)

Provide adequate reception as stated in the Exchange Program Policies (XPP).

d) Organize events that involve the exchange participant and local people in cultural learning .
e) Give initial assistance in establishing and orienting the exchange participant upon arrival for
his/her internship (accommodation, bank account, first day at work, local transportation,
grocery shopping, etc.).
f)

Provide assistance and support to the exchange participant when he/she has problems with
the company/organization or any other aspect of his/her internship.

g)

Provide assistance in ensuring that the internship maximizes its potential for cultural
learning and community involvement.

Responsibilities of the company/organization


a)

Provide work experience between 6 and 78 weeks.

b) Provide a detailed job description.


c)

Provide an experience during the internship that allows the exchange participant to enhance
their learning.

d) Provide adequate working conditions, orientation, guidance, training, etc. for the exchange
participant to achieve the objectives agreed accordingly to the job description
e) Ensure the student performs the job stated on the internship Form unless otherwise agreed
upon.
f)

Give the exchange participant feedback on his/her performance during and after the
traineeship to enable the exchange participant to learn and improve through the experience.

Responsibilities of the Exchange Participant


a)

Participate in a consultation meeting with the Local Committee

b) If taking a Global Citizen program, pay the exchange participant fee of 250,00 (two hundred
fifty) euros, within one (1) week after signing the contract and after being accepted to an
opportunity; the fee is not refundable.
c)

If taking a Global Talent program, pay the exchange participant fee of 350,00 (three
hundred fifty) euros, within one (1) week after signing the contract and after being accepted
to an opportunity; the fee is not refundable.

d) Participate in the Outgoing Preparation Seminar organized by AIESEC Sending Entity.


e) Attend preparation events and complete the preparation requirements of the hosting
country and territory.
f)

Read and follow Exchange Program Policies (XPP) and safety recommendations provided by
AIESEC.

g) Acquire the necessary legal documents to participate in an internship in the foreign country
(visa, insurance, working permit and other required documents). The student should incur
all expenses.
h) Incur all expenses related to transportation to the host country/territory and back.

i)

Maintain communication with the host and home Local Committees throughout the
internship .

j)

Inform the sending Local Committee immediately if he/she becomes unavailable for a
internship, or if he/she is looking into other opportunities outside AIESEC scope.

k)

Inform the sending entity any changes in his/her preferred start dates, and keep them within
the duration of this contract.

I)

Pass through another selection process and sign a new contract, if he/she decides to change
the internship start dates after the validity of this contract.

m) If accepted to one of our opportunities and decide not to go, pay the exchange fee.

n) Leave contact information with the Local Committees so that an AIESEC representative can
contact him/her when the acceptance to the internship occurs.
o) Re -evaluate the options specified on his/her forms if he/she has not been accepted after
several attempts.
p) Have enough money to cover his/her living expenses for the first few weeks of the
internship.
q) Prepare to give presentations about his/her country and culture to company/organization
employees, AIESEC members, and other audiences.
r)

Take a proactive and independent role in getting involved in the community and in other
activities outside the internship.

s)

Complete the survey 1 about his/her satisfaction with the program at the end of the
internship. The survey will be automatically sent to the participant .

t)

Participate in the Reintegration Seminar organized by Sending Entity.

u) Provide AIESEC sending entity with feedback and promotion materials (pictures, blog
materials, etc .) after completing the experience.
v)

Be solution-oriented during the duration of the internship in case issues occur.

w) Purchase valid travel and medical insurance for the duration of the internship
As an Exchange Participant in an AIESEC internship, we recommend that you keep this contract with
you to remind yourself of your responsibilities, the responsibilities of the home and host local
committees, the company/organization you have been accepted with , also to read the exchange
program policies which contains all AIESEC's exchange procedures globally.
An AIESEC official platform for all the opportunities is internships .aiesec.org. Th is will support you
prior and during your exchange experience, follow up your account, and make sure you fill all of
your internship information there .

The EP can legally enter and stay in the country/territory and perform the activities stated in
the TN form. AIESEC has provided in written format all the information required to arrange for
any documents, visa or work permits that may be required.

The TN form has to state what personal development spaces and opportunities are offered by
AIESEC before, during and after the internship. The delivered spaces have to correspond with
the TN form. As a minimum standard host entity must offer one facilitated space on
leadership development of EP due to the internship towards the end of internship before EP
returns home.
The EP has been provided with information in written format on what personal development
spaces and opportunities are offered by the home entity before, during and after the
internship. The delivered spaces have to correspond with the information provided. As a

before EP leaves for the internship.
