Legacy of the Land Grabbing

Lame Duck President Obama

Through the Antiquities Act of 1906, President

Barack Obama decreed two more national monuments
from his vacation home in Hawaii on Wednesday, taking
1.65 million more acres of Western land for management
by the federal government.
The new Bear Ears Buttes monument includes 1.35
million acres of Utah (A November poll of Utah residents
showed that 60 percent were opposed to the idea and only
33 percent supported it) and the Gold Butte monument
includes about 300,000 acres in Nevada. More than 80
percent of Nevada and about 65 percent of Utah is owned
by the federal government, according to National Public
Radio.
This arrogant act by a lame duck president will not
stand, Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee responded in
a statement. I will work tirelessly with Congress and the
incoming Trump administration to honor the will of the
people of Utah and undo this designation.
Obama has created 29 separate national monuments
using the Antiquities Act (which gives the president
executive authority to designate national monuments
without approval from Congress, amounting to a total of
553 million acres of national lands and waters, more than
any other president. The Washington Post reports that he
is expected to create possibly two or even more in order to
beat Franklin D. Roosevelts record of 30 designations.

Hows that for arrogance...

So a Physicist, Chemist and Biologist walk down

the beach to the ocean. They stand together and watch
the waves as the water splashes up to meet their feet.
Look at those waves, the shear crushing weight of
the water powered by tidal forces! I must study them
further! Says the Physicist, as he walked out into the
water, never to be seen again.

All that life in the ocean, from the smallest plankton
to the giant whales! I must study them further! The
Biologist says as he wades into the waves, never to be
seen again.
The Chemist watches the waves for a couple more
minutes, checks his watch, pulls out a pad of paper
and writes: Physicists and Biologists are soluble in
seawater... clicks his pen and walks home.

Whats the difference?

A guy looked at another guys Corvette the other day
and said, I wonder how many people could have been fed
for the money that sports car cost.
The owner of the Corvette replied, I am not sure, it
fed a lot of families in Bowling Green, Kentucky who built
it, it fed the people who make the tires, it fed the people
who made the components that went into it, it fed the
people in the copper mine who mined the copper for the
wires, it fed people in Decatur IL. at Caterpillar who make
the trucks that haul the copper ore. It fed the trucking
people who hauled it from the plant to the dealer and fed
the people working at the dealership and their families.
BUT, I have to admit, I guess I really dont know how
many people it fed.
That is the difference between capitalism and welfare
mentality. When you buy something, you put money in
peoples pockets, and give them dignity for their skills.
When you give someone something for nothing, you
rob them of their dignity and self worth.
Capitalism is freely giving your money in exchange
for something of value.
Socialism is taking your money against your will and
shoving something down your throat that you never asked
for.

A Tonight Show Classic

While most of the Tonight Show bests involved

Johnny Carson as the host, heres one that happened
with Jay leno at the helm. We have probably all had
bad dates but this takes the cake.
Jay Leno went into the audience to find the most
embarrassing first date that a woman ever had. The
winner described her worst first date experience.
There was absolutely no question as to why her tale
took the prize!
She said it was midwinter...snowing and quite
cold... and her date had taken her skiing in the
mountains outside Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a day
trip (no overnight). They were strangers, after all,
and had never met before. The outing was fun but
relatively uneventful until they were headed home
late that afternoon.
They were driving back down the mountain,
when she gradually began to realize that she should
not have had that extra latte! They were about an
hour away from anywhere with a rest room and in
the middle of nowhere. Her companion suggested
she try to hold it, which she did for a while.
Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow and slow

going, there came a point where she told him that he

had better stop and let her go beside the road, or it
would be the front seat of his car.
They stopped and she quickly crawled out
beside the car, yanked her pants down and started.
In the deep snow she didnt have good footing, so
she let her butt rest against the rear fender to steady
herself. Her companion stood on the side of the car
watching for traffic and indeed was a real gentleman
and refrained from peeking. All she could think
about was the relief she felt despite the rather
embarrassing nature of the situation.
Upon finishing however, she soon became aware
of another sensation. As she bent to pull up her
pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks were
firmly glued against the cars fender. Thoughts of
tongues frozen to metal poles immediately came to
mind as she attempted to disengage her flesh from
the icy metal.
It was quickly apparent that she had a brand
new problem, due to the extreme cold. Horrified
by her plight and yet aware of the humor of the
moment, she answered her dates concerns about
what is taking so long? with a reply that indeed,
she was freezing her butt off and in need of some
assistance!
He came around the car as she tried to cover
herself with her sweater and then, as she looked
imploringly into his eyes, he burst out laughing. She
too, got the giggles and when they finally managed
to compose themselves, they assessed her dilemma.
Obviously, as hysterical as the situation was, they
also were faced with a real problem.
Both agreed it would take something hot to
free her chilly cheeks from the grip of the icy
metal! Thinking about what had gotten her into the
predicament in the first place, both quickly realized
that there was only one way to get her free. So, as she
looked the other way, her first-time date proceeded
to unzip his pants and pee her butt off the fender.
As the audience screamed in laughter, she took the
Tonight Show prize hands down. Or perhaps that
should be pants down.

And you thought your first date was
embarrassing.
Jay Lenos comment... This gives a whole new
meaning to being pissed off..
Oh, and how did the first date turn out? He
became her husband and was sitting next to her on
the Tongiht Show!

Genes tractor to be purring like a kitten again

With the recent 100th

birthday of Gene Etchart
on December 26th, his
antique tractor that has
been housed at the Valley
County Pioneer Museum
ties in quite nicely.
You see, this tractor
was manufactured in
1917, making it a century
years old, as well. Genes
grandson, Matt Page, has
taken it out of its retirement
spot at the museum and it
is now in his shop as they
plan on getting the 20
horsepower tractor up and
running again.
Having been restored
many years back by the
N.E. Montana Threshers &
Antique Association, it is in
excellent condition.
The rear-right fenderwell of Gene Etcharts tractor which was manufactured in
Peoria, Illinois, by Avery (patent applied for!).

Genes tractor

continued from front

The
cherry
red
Avery tractor broke a lot
of ground around the
Hinsdale
community
before
Gene
bought
it.
Hinsdale Livestock
was where the tractor
originally came from, said
Matt, adding that it was
a state-of-the-art piece of
machinery.
When
Gene
purchased the River
Ranch west of Hinsdale,
he bought the tractor and
would break a lot more
river-bottom land, all at a
snails pace.

Ill admit I dont

know a whole lot about
how to get this tractor
fired up again, but I guess
were going to learn, said
Matt. We hope to have it
going by this summer.
Helping Matt retrieve
the Avery from the
Pioneer Museum were

Gene Etcharts grandson, Matt Page (at left) thought

it only appropriate to get on the phone and give Marc

Tom Thompson and Chris

Jeron Wesen.
I cant thank these
guys enough, Matt was
quick to recognize the
help, couldnt have done
it without them.
So, perhaps we might

be seeing Gene aboard

his old tractor once again,
perhaps during the Milk
River Days in Hinsdale
where hundreds upon
hundreds of acres were
broken with this very
tractor or maybe even the
Northeast Montana Fair?
Stay tuned!
