ple Statement of Purpose 2 (BioTech)

The enigma of life has always fascinated me. The unabated technological
advances in the field of science have opened up growth opportunities in newer
dimensions. To shine in the revolutionary workplace of tomorrow, one has to
have perfect combination of theory and practical knowledge. Biotechnology is
the field of future that is beneficial to the individual as well as the society. I want
to be an element of innovation in this field, which is creating a better tomorrow
for everyone. To do this, I need to arm myself with requisite knowledge which a
graduate program can furnish. I envision your university as the right stepping
stone to pursue my dreams and achieve my career goals.
During my undergraduate studies, 'Molecular Biology' and 'Genetics' evoked my
keen interest. I found the techniques involved in Molecular Biology including
Recombinant Technology fascinating. My aptitude for Mathematics has made me
an ardent learner of Chemical Reaction Engineering, Bio process Engineering,
Modeling and Simulation. That I am a topper till now in most of the subjects
including Molecular Biology, Molecular Immunology, Chemical Reaction
Engineering, English, Statistics, Applied Numerical Methods, Biotechnology
methods and Advanced Bio techniques is a indication of my enthusiasm and
ardor for these subjects.
Confidence in me is one of my biggest strengths, one which I developed when I
took many seminars in my class, had to ensure that they were well explored,
lucid and crisp, and delivered with confidence in an easily comprehensible
language. Other than the theory papers, my undergraduate program had good
lab programs which acted as a catalyst to my desire of assimilating to the
maximum from the coursework. I have an avid curiosity for delving deep into
these subjects and this has motivated me pursue a Master's degree.
I believe that out of class pursuits are as important as core academic excellence,
for a holistic educational experience. Going beyond the precincts of the
classroom, I have represented my college at ''The Indian Science Congress' held
in Kerala, from 3rd to 7th January, 2010. I have also participated in the workshop
on 'Food Safety Systems' held on 28th January, 2010 at YYY College, Chennai.
Other than being the topper of my class, graduating as the gold medalist from
my college, I have been an active participant in extracurricular activities held in
my college and others. From regularly participating in many different dance
programs, and other cultural activities, to acting as a member of the Organizing
Committee of 'Chrysalis', a National Level Symposium held in my college in
2009. Lastly by planning an industrial visit to Bangalore for my entire
department in March 2010, I found that my organizational skills were tested and
I came out with flying colors as they were conducted with lan. I distributed the
work according to the potential and motivated my team members to give their

best. It was a learning experience, and I realized an effective leader is one who
can empathize and work shoulder to shoulder with his team members.
To further nourish my research interest, I joined KNISS LABORATORIES, a
renowned name in pharmaceutical industry as a summer intern (2009). I worked
there in microbiology lab and Quality Control Department. I studied the
antimicrobial activities of natural herbal plants like Neem and Tulsi. This
industrial experience was enriching, allowed me to view directly all the theory
learned in my classes in a practical manner. From the internship, I have gotten a
glimpse of the rigorousness of lab work along with the anxiety of anticipation,
the pure exhilaration of a positive result. This has further strengthened my
dream and desire to be a part of a laboratory where cutting edge research is
performed.
My ultimate aim is to utilize the knowledge and training which I receive through
my Masters degree to work in the biotech industry where I will look to hone and
perfect my practical skills before eventually starting my own Research &
Development Company. I hope, in the future, to create an effectual technology
which will add value to human life.
To realize these dreams I need to broaden my horizons, receive both training
and guidance. I believe that I will receive just this through a graduate degree in
Biotechnology in Texas Tech. I feel that the curriculum and lab facilities are
designed to allow students to gain good exposure to both the theoretical and
practical side of the biotech industry, additionally the core lab facilities in the
Centre for Biotechnology and Genomics are highly advanced, will be very useful
for an aspiring Bio-technologist.
I sincerely hope that by associating with your University, I will be able to give
back in return as much as I will gain in my own knowledge under the tutelage of
experts from the industry. I hope that this statement of purpose will merit me a
place in your institution.

keen to continue my education on your University, which I perceive as a leading
scientific institution in the World in the field of biotechnology.
I believe that my academic background is appropriate for the PhD position on your
University. As you may see in the application form I have completed Master of Medical
laboratory Science, with specializing in pharmacology from Cairo University of Science
and Technology in September 2014. At the moment I am working in the St. Johns
hospital, in Oncology department, which is the main center for diagnosis and treatment
of tumors in Egypt.
Due to my ongoing interest in biotechnology and biology in general since hugh school
days, I got admitted to BSc program in Laboratory Sciences, and in 2011 received my
undergraduate degree from the University College of Medical Sciences in Alexandria. A

year later I got enrolled on master program studying variety of courses in DNA. It is
quite novel 2 year Master program, where first year is dedicated to courses and
second year research. During my studies I took challenging courses such as advanced
biochemistry and molecular biology, which I particularly enjoyed studying.
Thanks to my education and extensive research I started to work as lab director in St
Johns hospital, in oncology department. There I have developed strong leadership skills

Dear Sir, Madam:
My name is ... With this letter, I would kindly like to introduce my candidature as a graduated student of
the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, who is
applying for the Mundus Programme.
I have studied the biotechnology at the University of Natural Sciences from 2001 to 2005 and acquired a
bachelor of biotechnology last October. During the four years university-life, I was imparted plenty of
biotechnological knowledge, including microbiology, molecular biology, genomic engineering, plant,
animal, environmental and medical biotechnology and many subjects on agricultural biotechnology in the
4th year. However, I was tremendously interested in researches related to agricultural biotechnology,
especially plant biotechnology and the micropropagation of the flower plants. Hence, I have decided to do
a research on the micropropagation of an endemic slipper orchid of Viet Nam as my dissertation thesis.
During the time doing this research, I was trained to be a prospective scientist who is familiar with doing
research and working in laboratory and able to work individually or at team work. I have always
endeavored to upgrade my education in the field of plant biotechnology by approaching to some novel
method and protocol for plant propagation when taking part in some other researches under the
instruction of my supervisor. However, through work in the plant biotechnology dealing with
micropropagation problems, I came to recognize that my knowledge is still limited in many areas and I did
know that people can study more than micropropagation with plant and agricultural biotechnology.
Therefore, I plant to further an advanced study of plant biotechnology and agricultural management to
learn more and also to put my knowledge into a higher standard, so that I could be a well-equipped and
professional researcher.

After a thorough research of the Agri Mundus programme, I became aware that my knowledge of
agricultural and horticultural crop management will be improved if I have an opportunity to enroll in this
master course. This top-level programme will provide me plenty of knowledge in the field of agricultural
development and horticultural crop management which can be very useful for my future carrier. In
addition, working and attending this master course, I can meet different kind of people and culture that will
give me different points of view, thus, contributing for my flexibility and creativity, besides the cultural and
language gains. Moreover, I have come to recognize that I can obtain a deep and solid education in order
to solve the diverse types of agricultural problems and to have a critical understanding of problems and
solutions that my country is facing while I attend this course.
Personally, I am a person with a high perseverance level, someone who is motivated and ambitious. My
teacher and supervisor know me as a courteous and resourceful student and my classmates know me as
a light-hearted friend and an enthusiasm coworker. Furthermore, with my good command in writing and
speaking English and French, I will not have to come up against any difficulties in studying scientific
subject taught in English and French. Moreover, with my skill of taking part in many social volunteer
activities and working with foreigners, I would be able to adapt to a constantly changing work
environment, and also establish and maintain good working relationship with individuals of different
culture backgrounds in the Programme of Agri Mundus.
To me, as a young female prospective researcher, it is my dream to devote a part of my life to the
development of the Biotechnology in my country. My Viet Nam country is still an underdevelopment one,
the Government has considered the goal of biotechnology development until 2020 is a significant and
urgent tenor for the Countrys industrialization and modernization. Therefore, if I can be enabled to make
a good course at the Agri Mundus Programme and make practical use of the knowledge I can gather
throughout this Programme, I can be considered as a well-trained researcher which can be my advantage
to lead a group of researchers in the future. With my skill, knowledge and experiences, I could do more
than an ordinary scientist. Throughout my scientific achievements, I want to demonstrate with the world
that the Vietnamese can do more than a soldier in a war; they are also good at learning, researching,
applying and achieving novel scientific achievements.
I do hope that by my above-motivation words, I will be accepted as an applicant and a beneficiary of the
Eramus Mundus Scholarship to study the Agri Mundus Programme in the 2006 2007 academic years. I
understand that admission to the Eramus Mundus Scholarship is competitive, but I also understand that
Im qualified, eager and prepared to meet all of the challenges I will be presented with. I, therefore, would
be most grateful if you could give my application form in your most favorable consideration.
