Para V. 7 Fixed Roof
The total design external pressure loading, Pr, on the roof is determined by the following equation :
Pr = The greater of DL + (Lr or S) + 0.4 Pe or DL + Pe + 0.4 (Lr or S)
Where,
Pr = Total design external pressure for design of roof, Kpa

Para V.7.2 SELF SUPPORTING CONE ROOF

Para V.7.2.1
The required thickness of the roof plate is determined by the following equations.
tcone = (83*D)/sin * sqrt (Pr/(1.72*E))
=
27,93 mm
The thickness shall not be less than that required by 5.10.5.1
Where,
tcone = Required thickness of roof plate, mm
E = Modulus of elasticity of the roof plate, Mpa =

tr =

206888

(OK)

20,40 mm

Mpa

Para V.7.2.2
The total required cross-sectional area in the cone roof-to-shell joint region for external pressure on
the roof is determined by the following equation.
125 * Pr * D

2
Areqd = ----------------------- =
2042,35 mm
f * tan
Where,
D = Nominal Tank Diameter, =
27,9
m
f = Smallest of the allowable tensile stresses of thr roof plate material ,shell plate material or
stiffener ring material at the maximum operating temperature, Mpa =
400 Mpa
FTr = for Roof plate
400

FTs = for Shell plate
400
Mpa

9,46 deg

Para V.7.2.3
The length of cone roof considered to be within the top tension/compression ring region is
determined by the following equation :

PAGES

Para V.7.2.4
The length of shell considered to be within the top tension/compression ring region is determined by the
following equation
Xshell = 13.4 * sqrt (D * ts1)
=
158,268
mm
Where,
ts1 = Nominal thickness of cylindrical shell course 1,2n , mm, Where the subscript numbering is
from top to bottom of the shell =
5
mm
Para V.7.2.5
The required cross-sectional area of the top stiffener structural shape is determined by the following equation :
2
A stiff = Areqd - ts1 * Xshell - tcone* Xcone
=
-524260,67 mm
Provided Top Stiffener (Top Angle )

Shell (Para V. 8 of API 650)
Para V.8.1 UNSTIFFENED SHELLS
Shells shall be checked for two conditions : 1) the combined wind plus vacuum, and 2) for specified
external (vacuum) only. Each condition shall be checked using the appropriate stability factor, , as follows :
Condition 1 - Wind plus specified external (vacuum) pressure
=
1
for wind plus vacuum pressure [when vacuum pressure (Pe) is
less than or equal to 0.25 kPa]
= [Pe + 0.7]/0.95
for wind plus vacuum pressure [when vacuum pressure (Pe) is
greater than 0.25 kPa but less than or equal to 0.70 kPa]
= [Pe/0.48]
for wind plus vacuum pressure [when vacuum pressure (Pe) is
greater than 0.70 kPa; however , need not exceed 2.5
Check value :
= [Pe + 0.7]/0.95 =
0,7368
<
Pe =
0 kPa

2,5

(OK)

Condition 2 - Specified external (vacuum) pressure only

Para V.8.1.1
For an unstiffened tank shell subjected to external pressure sufficient to cause buckling, buckling will occur
elastically if the following criterion is satisfied.
(D/tsmin)0.75 [(HTS/D)* (Fy/E)0.5]

0,00675
(D/tsmin)0.75

[(HTS/D)* (Fy/E)0.5] =

(OK)

0,07522

where,
D = Nominal Diameter of Tank,m =
27,6
m
tsmin = Nominal thickness of thicknest shell course, mm =
HTS = Transformed Height of Tank Shell

21,344814

mm

Fy = Yield Strength of thr component at the maximum operating temperature, Mpa =

E = Modulus of elasticity of the roof plate material, Mpa
206888 Mpa

250

Mpa

Thus buckling will be elastic

Para V.8.1.2
The design external pressure (using the appropriate from V.8.1) and specified external (vacuum) pressure
(using = 3) shall not exceed for an unstiffened tank

Condition 1

Condition 2
Where,
Ps = Total design External Pressure for design of shell, Kpa =
0,52
Kpa

1. Specified design external pressure, Pe, excluding wind pressure =
0,00
Kpa
0,52
Kpa (see 5.2.2 for an important consideration)
2. W + 0.4 Pe

Pe = the specified external pressure, kPa =

Kpa
W = the maximum wind pressure consistent whith the specified design wind velocity, kPa. The
maximum wind pressure shall be calculated as follows (see 5.9.7.1, Note 2)
2
W = 1.48 (V/190) = 0,5198088 Kpa
Where, V = the specified design wind velocity (3-sec gust), in kph =

113 km/h

Due to Ps not exceed the allowable external pressure, hence shell need not be stiffened
Para V.8.1.3
The nominal thickness of the thinnest shell course required

tsmin ----------------------------------

5,970 mm

Condition 1

10,469 mm

Condition 2

The nominal shell thickness is not sufficient. Intermediate Stiffeners are required
Para V.8.2 CIRCUMFERENCIALLY STIFFENED SHELLS
Para V.8.2.1.2
The maximum height of unstiffened shell is Hsafe
(tsmin)2.5 * E
Hsafe =

1.5

HTS =

15203 D (Ps)
21,344814 m

Safe height is greater than the transformed height, so intermediate stiffener are not required
