Scholarships offered by UWS in 2015/16



1) UWS International Scholarship

UWS aims to promote world class education to all students. To achieve this, the University offer
the 2,000 International Scholarship, designed to assist selffunded (nonEU) students who are
applying from the following regions:

South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal etc.)
East Asia & Australia (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam etc.)
Middle East and Africa (Egypt, Sudan, UAE, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria. Ghana etc.)
Europe and CIS (Turkey, Spain, France, Germany, Russia, Uzbekistan etc.)
Americas ( North and Latin America region)

The above countries are listed for indicative purposes. Students from other countries in these
regions can also qualify for this scholarship. For further information please email us on

2) UWS MeritBased Scholarship Awards for 2015/16

For 2015/16 intake, the University is offering a range of meritbased scholarships to
international (nonEU) students. The scholarships are aimed at the brightest and best students
who have achieved academic excellence prior to applying to UWS. We recognise their
achievements and UWS will reward these students with the MeritBased Scholarship in addition
to the International Scholarship.

Scored 65% or higher in High School/College examinations.

3) Progression Scholarship: Undergraduate Year 1 to Year 2:

Eligibility:
1st year student at UWS maintaining a good attendance of 85%
minimum and overall score of 69% or higher will be awarded a 1,000
scholarship in the second year of study.

4) Postgraduate Fee Offer: (UWS graduates progressing to Postgraduate)

Award amount:
10% discount on fees for full fee paying (nonEU) international students
who wish to progress from undergraduate to postgraduate study at
UWS. In addition, you will also be entitled to a 10% Early Payment
Incentive if youre your tuition fees are paid in full prior to, or on
enrolment, providing this is within one week of formal classes
commencing.

Eligibility:
All full fee paying (nonEU) international students who have
successfully completed at least one year of undergraduate study and are
progressing to postgraduate study at UWS.

Details of award:
10% will be deducted from tuition fees on progression to postgraduate
study.

5) International Accommodation Bursary

Award amount:
1,000 deducted from the cost of accommodation in the University's

selfcatering residences or flats.

Eligibility:
Selffinancing overseas (nonEU) students on a fulltime programme are
eligible to apply for a 1,000 accommodation bursary. The

accommodation bursary is a contribution towards the cost of

accommodation in the University's selfcatering halls of residence or


flats and does not apply to private accommodation outside the
University. Students will not be entitled to a 'rebate' if they choose to
move out of residences. Students must stay in University
accommodation for 40 weeks of the academic calendar.
The deduction of the 1,000 accommodation bursary is subject to
receipt of the application form and all University Terms and Conditions
being met by the student.

The bursary is applied at 500 per semester for your continuous stay
within University accommodation. The bursary is based on payment of
students tuition fees: if tuition fees are paid in full in TR1 then 1,000
will be credited; if 50% is paid then 500 will be credited. Bursaries are
subject to all University Terms and Conditions being met.

As an international student, you will receive the International
Accommodation Bursary details with your decision letter when you
have been offered a place at the University.

All full fee paying international (nonEU) students staying in the
University's residential accommodation. To be entitled to the 5%
discount, your accommodation fees for the trimester must be paid in full
prior to, or on enrolment, provided this is within one week of formal
classes commencing. The accommodation costs for 2015/16 are 85 per
week for the Hamilton Campus and 109.50 per week for Ayr and
Paisley Campuses (142 for studio and one bedroom flats respectively),
before the discount of 1,000 for the year.

6) Early Payment Incentive Tuition Fees

7) International Research Excellence Scholarship

Award amount:
Full fee paying selffunded students may be eligible for a 3,500
scholarship upon receipt of completed application with associated
documentation. You would also be entitled to a further 10% Early

Full fee paying selffunding (nonEU) international students. You must
have applied for and been offered a place on a full time Higher Degree
by research programme at the University. This scholarship cannot be
combined with any other UWS scholarship.

A limited amount of awards will be available for specific research areas
and will be granted on academic merit.

External Scholarships (administered by UWS)



Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme

Award amount:
The scholarship will cover tuition fees, travel and living expenses.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must hold a first degree at either
first class or upper second level. You must be a national of a
Commonwealth developing country and not living or studying in a
developed country. You must be willing to return to your own country
to work or study and will need to provide evidence of English
Language ability e.g. IELTS certificate.

Details of award:
You must hold an unconditional offer of a place at postgraduate level
at the University. Priority is given to subjects related to the economic,
social and technological development of the students' home country.
In light of this, preference will be given to applicants applying to
Advanced Computer Systems Development; Alcohol and Drug Studies;
Biotechnology; Broadcast Journalism; International Management;
Logistics and Supply Chain Management; PGDE Primary Education;
Quality Management and Waste & Clean Technologies.

Scottish Funding Council Scheme

The University has successfully secured a number of funded places awarded by the Scottish
Funding Council (SFC) for selected MSc programmes. This award has been granted in

recognition of these programmes significant relevance to meeting skills demands from the key
sectors in Scottish economy. Please check individual postgraduate courses for more details.

As part of its policy to support high quality students, the British government currently offers
several categories of scholarship. Most are tenable at any UK institution. We would encourage
any candidate who feels that they might meet the criteria to make enquiries.

External Scholarships (not administered by UWS)



Scotlands Saltire Scholarship

Award amount:
The scholarship amount is for 2,000 and can be awarded for one year
of study on an undergraduate or postgraduate programme.

Eligibility:
The scholarship opportunity is open to Canadian, Chinese, Indian and
US nationals and is aimed at encouraging bright, talented and hard
working individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. You must be
able to demonstrate that you can meet the cost of living and the cost of
the remaining tuition fees.

Details of award:
The scholarships are designed to support the promotion of Scotland as a
learning and science nation, and are therefore, targeted at the priority
sectors of:
Creative industries
Life sciences
Technology
Financial services
Renewable and clean energy
This includes a wide range of subjects across all of Scotland's
universities and higher education institutions.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP)

Award amount:
This varies depending on the award you are applying for.

Eligibility:
Scholarships are offered to students from certain Commonwealth
countries. For details of which countries are participating, please see the
CSFP website.

The awards assist Commonwealth students of high calibre to study in


other Commonwealth countries. Some countries prioritise certain areas
of study. You will need to check what the priorities are in your home
country before applying.

British Marshall Scholarships

Award amount:
University fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant,
research and daily travel grants, fares to and from the United States and,
where applicable, a contribution towards the support of a dependent
spouse.

Eligibility:
High calibre students from the United States . Students should hold a
first degree from an accredited 4year college in the United States.

Details of award:
40 awards available for students from the United States. Study can be in
any discipline. Awards are tenable for 22 months. The scholarships are
funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and administered in the
UK by the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission.
