The Placebo Method to Quit Smoking.

Decamber 26, 2016.

First of all I'de like to put out a disclaimer that says that I am not a do
ctor,
physician, pharmasist, or anything like that. I am just a simple appliance
technician that likes to do research on the internet.
A little about myself. Well, I have recently quit smoking. Thats right. And
I have
become an avid gum chewer. How long had I been smoking. Well lets see. My moth
er
smoked while I was in the wound. After I was born I was around second hand cigar
ette
smoke from my parents. Now this was a time when grocery stores still had an ash
tray
down every isle. So it was pretty bad. I started actually smoking when I was 14.
Now I'm
49. So officially I smoked about 35 years. All my life since conception really.
And I decided that I was just gonna quit.
I knew it was gonna be tough. I had quit and started back up a couple of ti
mes
during the past. The first time I was doing really good. Chewed lots of gum. Unt
il one
day my Dad, whom died of lung cancer, and were out getting fire wood. And he ha
nds me
a cigarette. Now I was quit. And through my mind went "Wait a minute. My Dad is
handing
me a cigerette. This is so cool. This just doesn't happen." So I took the cigare
tte,
smoked it, and just started smoking again.
The second time I was in the service. 8 weeks of basic training. And there
is no
smoking in basic training. I made it to the sixth week. We got into the drill
sargeants ash tray. Rolled the tobacco out of the butts. And used blank pages
from a
small bible and rolled cigarettes. I had never been so stoned in my life. But
it
got me started once again. But this time I haden't planned on quiting.
As to what made me quit. Lets just say that I wanted my sex life back.
There are 3 ways one can quit smoking.
First one is you just simply expire. If you're dead you're not smoking.
Second one is your health just gets so bad that its impossible for you to smoke.
And the third one is volontary. You quit before the above happens and your qual
ity
of live improoves. And your body starts to heal itself. Nicotine does the body
a lot
of harm. Not just your lungs. But your whole body. And nicotine has a lot of
ways of
covering up what ails you. Nicotine puts out a false sense of dopamine and sera
tonin.
I've read a lot of documents on the effects smoking and what to expect when
you
quit. The hardest part of quiting is the dopamine addiction. When you smoke yo
ur body
puts out lots dopamine, the pleasure drug. And you get addicted to it. Every 3
0
minutes your body says I need more dopamine so I can feel normal. So you light
up
another cigarette. Also found out that nicotine puts out a false seratonin feel
ing.

And after about 20 years of smoking your brain just quits producing seratonin.
Seratonin is a vey important hormone for regulating the nervous system. And her
e
I've been at it for 35 years. Well no wonder. It is said that once the brain s
tops
producing seratonin it is very difficult to get it going again. If it ever does
.
Now my first year or so smoking I tried lots of different brands to find on
e that
I liked. I couldn't settle on any of the brands. All that I tried had filters.
And
it got to the point that I would feel queasy smoking filtered cigarettes. Until
a
friend of mine introduced me to Lucky Strike non filter. I fell in love with th
ese
things. They were strong, satisfied the nicotine craving, and didn't make me
queasy. And stayed on non filter smokes till just here recently.
So, I was at 34 years of non filter cigarette smoking. 1.5 or so packs a d
ay.
So my addiction was pretty bad. Though I have seen worse. My worse part of jus
t
quiting smoking like cold turkey was the naked lung feeling. I couldn't stand i
t.
I had to inhale smoke. So I knew I couldn't quit cold turkey. I had to take my
time.
I had to do it a little at a time. So I started cutting back a little at a time
.
Spent 2 years cutting back and cutting back. Till I was down to three quarters
of a
pack every 24 hours. Every hour or so it was light one, take and shallow inhale
2 to 3 puffs, and put it out. Which worked but I got to the point that I couldn
't
cut back any more. I needed a little extra push. But didn't know where to go.
Yeah I could have done nicotine gume or the patches. I've done that before and
it
didn't help. Just gave me the naked lung feeling. And I had to inhale smoke.
All it takes to keep the nicotine addiction is only 5 cigarettes a day. There w
as
no way I could smoke that little in one day.
So I get onto the internet and started doing some research. To quit cold t
urkey
was no good. Most that quit cold turkey start smoking again because of the dopa
mine
addiction isn't satisfied. And its hard to satisfy the dopamine addiction. Eat
ing
can be addictive, jogging can be addictive, any activity you do that produces
dopamine can be addictive. And the worse one is smoking.
So no cold turkey. And I need to just get off of nicotine so I can stop th
e
damage its doing. Just let me say one thing. Once you get off of nicotine do
yourself a favor and don't ever go back to it. Don't go to patches, or gum, or
chew,
or cigarettes. Its the nicotine that you need out of your system that does the
damage.
Ok. To quit smoking sucessfully one needs to do it gradually. Yet what wa
s a
good possible way for me to quit smoking. I looked into a lot of things and sta
rted
looking into herbal cigarettes. Now keep one thing in mind. Yes herbs are quit
e good

for the body. But when they're dried out and lit on fire for you to inhale the
smoke
they become quite lethal. So you have to be careful. Really research a herb th
at you
may be interested in smoking. Some are mixed with regular tobacco to enhance th
e
nicotine injection into the blood stream. Once again stay away from nicotine.
Now, if you really want to quit you have to really want want to quit. Cause
this habit will be with you for the rest of your life. Yes the cravings will get
less frequent and less severe over time. But the habit will always be there.
So lete get off of this nicotine for a better life. And lets make it easy.
Do not set a quit date. This is something you want to come naturally.
Here's what you will need. First a picket cigarette roller. Bugler and
Top both make these. You can get them from your favorite tobacco store and
from ebay. Then you will need some rolling papers. I prefer Top. I would get
about 4 books to start. Which will give you 2 cartons to start with. Then
you will need a herbal mix to roll. And I would get about four
ounces to start out with. I found 3 good sources to utilize.
The first one I found was at this site. Good quality stuff but a bit pricy.
http://naturalmagickshop.com/smokes/Ex-Smoker-Smoking-Blend.html
The second one I found that I like a lot better and is cheaper is found her
e.
http://www.localharvest.org/all-natural-herbal-smoking-blend-C22204
They are out of Hawaii. Much better flavor and price.
Each place mentioned above has their own mix of herbs. Her is a list of her
bs
from both places combined.
Mullein, sage, damiana, catnip, lobelia, hops, nettle, red rasberry leaf,
calendula, wild lettuce, coltsfoot, scullcap, and passion flower.
The third source I found was my local alternative health food store. Where
they
had a lot of the herbs that I was ordering from the other 2 out fits. If you ord
er
from the 2 sources above the smoking blend comes pre mixed and all you have to d
o is
roll and smoke. When I went to the health store I had to purchase the herbs sep
erately.
So I got an ounce of everything they had in comparison to my list and mixed ever
ything
in a coffee can. I was able to get like 7 or 8 herbs. But the 3 most important
herbs
you need to get are lobelia, mullein, and scullcap. And here's why.
Lobelia is known as Indian tobacco. It is a nicotine substitube/replacemen
t.
It acts the same way on the nicotine receptors as nicotine does. But its non
addictive. But you can't tell the difference. Matter of fact, its known to fin
d the
nicotine receptor and move the nicotine out of the receptor and take up residenc
e.
Mullein is the fuzzy leaf plant you see growing in strange places. The pla
nt is
harvested and dried. Mullein will help the lungs clean themselves out. Seems l
ike I
coughed less but had a lot mure mucus come up. It realy helped.
Scullcap will keep you calm and keep you from being so bitchy.
The other herbs are really for fill and flavor. You don't have to get all
of the
herbs. But you must get these 3. With passion flower later on.
Now that we have all we neeed lets start the program. Now first thing, do
not set

a quit date. That just adds extra stress which you don't need. Quiting smoking
is
gonna be stressful enough. Its like saying good bye to your long term best frie
nd.
I recommend using this program for as long as it takes. Take each step for as l
ong
as you need to. Not to worry. You can probably get a carton worth of herbs for
like
around $5. However I'll give you a step by step guide thats real simple.
To start off with smoke all you want at the beginning. Put out that nicoti
ne
cigarette without looking back and make your next cig a herbal cigarette, that
contains lobelia. Spend 2 weeks smoking all the herb cigs you want. But the ci
gs
must contain lobelia. During this time the nicotine is leaving your body and yo
u won't
even know that its leaving. At this poing don't ever go back to nicotine. If y
ou do
you will need to start over.
After 2 weeks of lobelia it'll be time to change the mix. Now its time to
take
out of the lobelia and replace it with passion flower. The rest of the mix can
stay
the same. Don't forget mullein and scull cap. Now you have to get the lobelia
out
of your system. And with passion flower included you won't feel like smoking as
often.
But smoke all you want. Keep this up for another 2 weeks. This is when the her
bal
health store comes in handy. So you can pick and choose what you want to smoke.
Now its time for the real kicker. Keep the same mix as close as you can, s
till
no lobelia, but still with mullein and scull cap, and drop your smoking frequenc
y down
to one cig every 2 hours. But at the same time take up gum chewing. Chewing gu
m
gives your mouth flavor and something to do. So the craving to smoke is a lot l
ess.
Now that we've gotten rid of the addictive nicotine. Followed by letting the lo
belia
leave the system. Now its time to retrain your habits. Which will be a lot eas
ier
now that we don't have that nagging addiction. So here's what I did. I would c
hew gum
between cigs. And change the gum when it came time for a smoke. And over time
I
reduced the amount I smoked every 2 hours. It got to the point that it wasn't w
orth
lighting up.
Then one morning when it came time to light up I really didn't feel like sm
oking.
So I said to myself lets see how long I can go before I need to light up. Now h
ere
it is months later and I still haven't lit up. But I have chewed a lot of gum a
nd
still chweing away. I refuse to smoke. I'm not going back there. Not any more
.
Notta.
To quit smoking is one of the hardest things a person can do. I know its v
ery

difficult. But it won't happen until you make up your mind to do so. And make
up
your mind to stay quit. The above method is the easiest I can come up. And it
was
very easy. See ya in the non smoking area.
