Question
The left hand column lists formulas or measures (where no formula is used) that are used to calculate
various statistics based on data obtained from a sample. The right hand column lists various
descriptions of various statistics or parameters. Match the formulas or measures in the left hand
column with the descriptions in the right hand column by inserting the appropriate letters in the spaces
provided. (Obviously there are two more descriptions than formulas or measures. Therefore two
descriptions will not be used.)

Question
Suppose, for a sample data set containing 4 values, the mean was calculated to be 10, the standard
deviation was calculate to be 3, the range was calculated to be 7, the median was determined to be 9, and
the mode was determined to be 9. (Hint: To answer the questions below, you dont need to know the
original values, you just need to understand the various measures and their formulas.)
If 2 was added to each of the 4 original values:
the new mean would be calculated to be _____

the new standard deviation would be calculated to be _____

the new range would be calculated to be _____

the new median would be determined to be _____

the new mode would be determined to be _____

If each of the original values was multiplied by 2:

the new mean would be calculated to be _____

the new standard deviation would be calculated to be _____

the new range would be calculated to be _____

the new median would be determined to be _____

the new mode would be determined to be _____
