Lesson Plan
Opening: Review with students what signal words they know go with each operation. Come up with
words they are familiar with. Have them create their own organizer that they can reference to. Give them
the infographic as an example (attached).
Presentation and Practice: Go over three word problems with the class, show them step-by-step how
you would solve the problem (circle key numbers, circle signal words, set up math equation, and solve),
tell students they are going to create their own word problems in groups, separate them into breakout
sessions to create a word problem and have them solve it.
Closure: Ask students what they learned and questions that they had through a poll everywhere.
