To begin with, gender equality is a subject of extreme importance
through time and it is something that affects every member of the society. Moreover, its a topic that pops out in everyday conversations; such a vital issue is treated there at the same level of meaningless matters. As a consequence, it is necessary to investigate about this area and make a contrast in order to have an impartial point of view and recognize that even if equality is positive and valuable, it also has disadvantages. First of all, discrimination based on gender is deeply carved in history and is still present. In several communities women are only designated to do house-work and take care of children, they are even excluded from decisions regarding their own community or family. For instance, here in Colombia, especially in the countryside, it was the tradition and it was accepted by general opinion. In the past, Colombian laws were focused on a reinforcement of the patriarchal authority, however, with the Cdigo Cvil, the countrys normativity evolved and women obtained a higher degree of autonomy. Consequently, the attitudes and way of thinking of the inhabitants gradually changed and that was a huge step in the search for equality. Even though there are still numerous things to do, the results are visible and the society advances. In contrast, the principle of finding the gender equality has been misunderstood by some individuals and groups. This misunderstanding could be a source of confusion among the most susceptible public. Notably, in the search for equality made by feminists groups, some of them have lost the way. The most extreme feminists groups are not looking for equity regarding politics rights but for privileges ways of making life hard to men as a way of revenge. There are a lot of consequences, to illustrate, the video Sex equality even in the bathrooms of Sweden? Published on Youtube by EURONEWS, shows a law proposition that could force all of the male children to go to the bathroom and sit like girls. Additionally, Ann Helena Rudberg, who was a feminist activist, declared that the feminism has gone too far in several occasions.
To conclude, it is important to watch, on one hand, the problems
produced by the search of equality. Even if it is clear that there are less harms than advantages, it is indispensable to watch over this issues that could become larger over time. On the other hand, it is remarkable the positive evolution regarding women rights and the gradual change of thought of society. In my opinion, we have to resolve the problems and misunderstandings in order to become a better society because the equality between man and woman is crucial in a true human community where each member of the society is respectful and conscious not only of his own potential but also that of others.
